AW might have stayed on air if they allowed Jill to continue her NYPD blue vision. They wanted it to be Reilly part 2 and it flopped. God Jill is a ratings getter
Members cassadine1991
So the destruction of the heart and soul of a show and the integrity of its characters are meaningless is what you are saying. All you care about are ratings
Members JONNYSBRO
Cassadine i mean doesnt every network want to make big money and revenue. Thats the point of any business. Thats whats keep the shows on air. YR is tanking in viewers. Sally has had the lowest ratings in a decade even lower then MAB. Her contract will not be renewed. Members MichaelGL
I think a majority of viewers would go for heart and character driven take over meaningless attempts at higher ratings.
Members JONNYSBRO
Michael reviewing 2000 ratings from Toups and OLTL hit number 1 demos. It was the number 1 soap in 18 to 49. No wonder she got the GH promotion. The woman knows how to spike those numbers up. Please register in order to view this content This was the OLTL primetime episode 19 years ago. OMG this was so JFP to a tee. So much stuff going on when Rachel confessed to killing Georgie.
Members SOAPSFOREVER
Jonnysbro's post purposely misleads. OLTL did indeed hit #1 in a specific ratings demo, but it didn't stay there for long. JFP has always been about programming stunts. Goose the ratings, especially during sweeps, and she manages to hang on to her job (until she doesn't). But when the "shock and awe" is over, audiences tune out. They aren't invested in the show long term because they aren't invested in the characters. Real soap legends like Irna Phillips, Bill Bell, Agnes Nixon, Doug Marland, Harding Lemay, Claire Labine and Henry Slesar understood that character creates and drives plot. JFP and her ilk simply throw anything at the storytelling wall and hope it sticks, underscoring Jonnysbro's "so much stuff going on" comment. I can't recall another EP who is viewed quite an negatively as JFP is. Of course, Jonnysbro sings her praises because it gets responses. Posters (including myself) just have to call him out because he's so painfully and consistently annoying. As I said in a previous post that Jonnysbro never responded to, I'm more and more convinced he's a plant on the board to generate more posts. I could never finish a full episode of GH once Frank took over, mainly because of Frank's terrible production values and casting. I'd take JFP AND Guza back in a heart beat. Members GSGfan2017
Um, would JFP ruin How to Get Away with Murder? How about Scandal? House of Cards? Cat, would A Martinez qualify as an FOJ in your book?

Members Vee
A Martinez was Jill's #1 FOJ and he wore the badge with pride in interviews. He named a child for her. Jill's obsession with AM destroyed GH for a year in 2001. He was fired the following year.
Members ranger1rg
So where's that 34% increase that JFP brought to Another World? it doesn't exist.

Members GSGfan2017
A's departure from GH in 2002 may have been involuntary, but it's my understanding that his contract was up anyhow. At least from a legal standpoint, I can't say that A was fired from GH. However, Mr. Martinez did express dissatisfaction with his GH stint in a 2015 episode of the BlogTalkRadio show Daytime After Dark. To me, it seems that A Martinez had the same basic problem on General Hospital that Marcy Walker (another FOJ, right?) had had on Guiding Light. Yes, Jill Farren Phelps was EP of GL when Marcy joined the cast of that soap in 1993. On a different episode of Daytime After Dark, Robert Newman admitted that Marcy was frustrated on GL. Walker herself has publicly admitted that she was frustrated as Tangie Hill, though I can't say that she really blamed JFP. Marcy ended up leaving GL in 1995. It's my understanding that she decided not to renew her contract. She rejoined the cast of All My Children shortly afterwards. Marcy reportedly was offered a chance to join the cast of Another World during the period that JFP was EP of that soap.
Members titan1978
In fairness, it was trying to force A and Jensen down our throats. He never should have been cast as Roy. In another role, I think he could have had more staying power. Once JFP arrived and Jackie was moved away from being a lead in the show, Roy'sdays were numbered.
