I figured it would be with the writer switch. But the show will never be out of the woods. I know many will celebrate but I'm not. We'll be in the same position next year. A two year renewal would have me a little more reassured and more celebratory. Congrats to my show though, but a year from now we'll be in the same boat.

Worst stories ever and bottom of the barrel ratings.

Added Corday: “It’s a great day in Salem… We are grateful to our incredible network and longstanding partner Sony for their continued support, and we look forward to what the future will bring under the new creative direction of the show. I’m especially proud to be able to shepherd Days into the new season, continuing my parents dream and the show’s legacy.”

He ended their legacy long time ago and stomped all over it.

Congrats to DAYS, the cast and crew, if nothing else than for staying employed for another year. Corday has fought for his team's survival since its first real threat of cancellation in 2003.

I'm looking forward to Ron Carlivati's DAYS. Yes, he has a shelf life with coming up with creative ideas, but DAYS has a limited shelf life too, so perhaps they'll coincide. It's better than picking from their usual pile of former headwriters. Clearly, they knew everything wasn't a done deal and the higher ups needed hope of a better product. We'll see what we have come July (well, according to Corday, it won't *fully* be Carlivati's work until September. Oy, this taping schedule...)

Dena and Ryan actually helped to get the show renewed. They should be acknowledged.  Yes, Dena should never work in soaps again (and we have five more months of her work to sit through or not), but she cleaned up a lot of Griffith's devastation, used the vets more (Victor, Julie), brought on Val (and delved into some history).  Reduced Vivian Giovanni to monthly visits with not a lot of dialogue (and they fired her, AAA++ rating for that).  The biggest issue with the show is the budget. Ron may want to write (and be capable of writing) fierce stories but without a budget the show will never rise again.  As an example, even though the Chloe baby plot is dumb, they could have milked it with a trial and lots of extras etc if they had funds.  What they did in two days was an embarrassment.  Same with Chad/Abby getting kidnapped and getting naked.  LOL. I think they used the same set that Ashley Abbot has her scenes with Ravi on YR...gray closets are so cheap to build.

Carlivati (if he can) should stick to domestic, emotional drama with performers who can act!

Yeah, I wouldn't say "fought" ... sorry but I don't think he's as invested or as involved as some think, for better OR worse. He's a figurehead and that's it. They are VERY VERY VERY lucky to be getting these renewals. They've taken several for granted but this time they NEED to work for it. People know my stance on Ron, I was CHEERING when he was fired from GH but I think DAYS is more up his alley. I think he will do well for a while, and hopefully ensure another renewal next year but it's just hard to get excited anymore. I'm happy for the cast and the crew, they work their asses off. I love the show so I'm glad it's surviving but the one year renewal, with the bad taping schedule ... it just leaves me mixed. We'll be once again in this boat next year, praying, hoping and wondering. I just see these as stays of execution.

This is awesome news and it has to do with Ron Carlivati being named head wtiter. Lets remember Ron came to GH really in 2012 to wrap up and he brought ratings gains. I read Ken Corday interview i think he was forced to fire Dena from NBC and Greg Meng. This is great news.

I figured it would be renewed because NBC needs to have something other than talk and six hours of TODAY. I wonder what the streaming numbers for DAYS look like. Same day ratings, which is the way Daytime is measured, unlike Primetime, continue to matter less and less. If the streaming numbers are solid, NBC will keep it because it drives traffic to NBC's site daily.

I do wonder what it's streaming numbers are. I know it's not available on demand from Xfinity, which is a shame.

Jeff Zucker or some other moron at NBC all but said it was dead ten years ago and look where we are ...

The show is the pits right now but I don't understand WANTING these things cancelled. These shows employ hundreds of people. I'm happy for them.

Technical question: Isn't Days of our Lives already in the middle of its 52nd season? Isn't this renewal really for its 53rd season?

In any case, this is great news. I hope this show manages to last for many more years to come.

    • What? A nice little mini-marathon of catching up before work.    YES, PLEASE.
    • I guess they copied literally everything from that C&R scene, the dialogue etc
    • And even then...you have to wait a couple of weeks to be sure he's actually dead.

    • Apparently. lol.  Well you know I don't mind standing also with the cheese so
    • I have nothing to add. Everything you said is on point, and I don't know whether to laugh hysterically at it or throw things at the television. I do know it's terrible soap opera.
    • Characterization: - I realized I have PTSD from Ted #1’s constant swaying. The moment I saw NuTed, I actually caught myself thinking, “Why isn’t he rocking?” - Leslie makes very little sense from a storytelling perspective unless she’s completely psychotic. What was she hoping to achieve with all her dramatic reveals and aliases? Also… who wouldn’t put two and two together after Laura’s accident? - Anita and Dani come across as mean-spirited, and honestly, the Duprees should just be portrayed as full-on villains. Been saying this since day one—remember when Dani punched Haley and the whole Dupree clan just walked away from her with that “shame on you” look? Wrong on so many levels. Glad others are finally seeing it too. - Mona is sanctimonious and I can’t stand her. She’s the worst kind of person: lower-to-middle class but constantly making excuses for the rich. - Call me crazy, but I’m actually enjoying Ashley and Derek’s storyline. I’ll take this neurotic OCD queen over the sanctimonious, multi-talented nurse any day. Plus, soap couples are usually so plastic. They deal with insane drama but never go to the bathroom, never plan a weekend away. Look at Kat and Tomas—every scene is just them planning lunch or dinner…! - Btw by now André seems bored af by Ashley.   WTF Moments: - No young woman would be even remotely interested in going to a casino (looking at Eva). And it’s wild how the show is treating gambling like it’s some kind of therapeutic hobby—like retail therapy or something. - What are they doing with Smitty’s eyebrows… and more importantly, why?   Parallels with Other Soaps: - I like Nicole, but she reinforces my belief that soaps should never include psychiatrists. If they’re portrayed accurately, they ruin the fun by rationalizing everyone’s childish and selfish behavior. If they’re portrayed inaccurately (hi Taylor from B&B), it’s equally bad. - Anita’s story is giving major SSM vibes from 2017‘s Y&R, when Victor got Nikki to start playing the piano again.  - Karla played a model on B&B too…

Direction & Continuity: - Pascarelli is hands down the worst director this show has. - Wednesday’s episode started with a nighttime establishing shot of Orphey Gene’s… but all the scenes that followed were clearly set in daytime—until halfway through the episode, when it suddenly switched back to night. - The picture on the piano at the Duprees’ house shows two little girls and two little boys. Who are the boys? One could be Martin (or Tyrell?), but who’s the other kid? (And speaking of pictures… no one under 50 is walking around with a printed photo in their pocket. But I digress.) - I love catching the time on the phones when they pop up onscreen. Friday’s episode was supposedly set before lunch, but Vernon’s phone said 3:15 in one scene and 3:50 in the next. A few scenes later, Kat is playing Leslie’s audio for Jacob and her phone shows 10:40. Cool.
    • I forget that throughout the 80’s the TV seasons were officially over in April. Not sure why that was the case but it wasn’t until the mid-90’s that May Sweeps became a real official thing.  Because my teenage self stayed home often on Saturday nights in the early 90’s I watched Empty Nest just about every night to the bitter end, I do actually always felt a bit sad whenever I see that GG ep knowing that Rita’s character will die with that last line “Good night!” For years I admit I had the Mandela effect that Mulligan was in the episode before I finally caught it again on Lifetime.    And yes lol I don’t care for David Leisure’s character in the episode but somehow was funnier than anything on Empty Nest. Same when Charley crossed over for Dorothy’s Jeopardy dream.
    • Jon Lindstrom proved with Ryan Chamberlain on GH that he can play menacing and evil. He's not doing it here, and I think it's a combination of writing and performance.   To be fair, Longoria has modeled and has represented major companies like L'Oreal, but she was never a runway model. I don't have any problem with seeing Dani as a runway model. I think it's more than possible, and I don't understand anyone criticizing her look. I actually have a bigger problem with the whole "Anita is an EGOT" thing. I think it goes way too far. Give her a Grammy. Say she was nominated for a Tony, or even won. But an EGOT winner? No.   The fact that you're using DAYS to defend a BTG set is telling, since we all know DAYS is poverty level soapdom. I expect so much more and better from Gates.     I can't help it, but I'm LOL at the people defending that backroom bingo hall casino and making excuses for it. It's hilariously bad.
    • If NBC could have for seen the ratings of Lovers & Friends (the replacement for Somerset).. they would have for sure kept Somerset on the air longer. https://jason47.com/days/ratings1976.html  (ratings for Somerset in the final year) https://jason47.com/days/ratings1977.html (ratings for Lovers & Friends short run...getting as low as a 2 rating).
