I'm glad to hear this. And I'm glad people fought for the show to get another season as I imagine that helped. I think they have at least one more season in them. I'd be OK with that being the end, if need be.

Just got back to this. I had no idea Marcel Ruiz only moved to the States when he was nine and couldn't speak any English.

That's great. Between this, Danny Pino, and Gloria Estefan, they're really pulling out all the stops.

Melissa Fumero and Stephanie Beatriz discuss ODAAT in an interview with Vulture:

Melissa Fumero: I think we, as a community, could be, especially in Hollywood, much more unified. We’re trying to do that on a small scale with this Latinas group that America [Ferrera] and Gina [Rodriguez] started. I wish I had a good answer. I don’t know. It just feels like we’re still kind of invisible. I mean, I was really shocked that Justina [Machado] and [Rita] Moreno weren’t nominated today.

Stephanie Beatriz: Shocked.

And the show.

Fumero: And the show. I mean, they’re doing some of the best work. Take away all the importance of showing Latino culture and everything for representation. They’re just doing amazing, hysterical, and also poignant, heartfelt performances on this show that are just as good as any of those women that were nominated. I don’t get it. I don’t know if it’s that our shows don’t get marketed enough.

Beatriz: Brilliant performances.

I stopped caring about the Emmys a long time ago (starting to sound like you, Carl ), but I'm still upset that neither Justina nor Rita were nominated. They're putting in the type of performances that the Emmys awarded year after year in the 70s, that great comedy that is flavored with a subtle somberness. I always say it's classic Lear, but it just is! I don't even have enough interest to see who were nominated instead.

Justina Machado is in the running for the supporting role of police office Renee Montoya in DC/WB's somehow-still-on-schedule Birds of Prey female superhero/villain film with Margot Robbie.
