I really hope it's renewed.  I get the impression it's not doing that well for Netflix in terms of views, but maybe all the positive buzz will tip the scales in it's favor. It really is a good show.

Danny Pino was unspeakably hot as Penelope's brother - Dick Wolf had been hiding him away on L&O for too long. I thought the episode was very sweet, especially the B-plot with Schneider and Berkowitz. How someone hasn't had legendary character actor Stephen Tobolowsky as a regular on a major sitcom before this is beyond me.

Bullstitt.  They had enough viewers.  Netflix is playing games with people, and I, for one, am not amused.

Oh they're getting hammered on twitter for their tweet about the cancellation. 

 

I guess they can justify spending $1 million to keep Friends, but can't keep ODAAT, which I doubt costs that much to make

I don't believe they didn't have enough. I believe Netflix is trying too hard to 'get tough' on their numbers and metrics and as a result certain shows are getting dinged. They greenlight a lot more expensive schlock than this.

From what I've read they're losing subscribers fast. The pricing is what's doing it

The economics of the multi-camera sitcom are generally pretty cheap, which makes this harder to square, too, unless that number really was closer to 3. But Netflix, Hulu, et al., can’t act like traditional TV networks in some ways and then not like them in others.

I think the lack of outright ownership was the bottom line. That's the same reason they canned the Marvel shows - that had nothing to do with viewers.

ODAAT was one of the only reasons I have kept my Netflix subscription. I'm not surprised by this news - and the last episode felt like a complete wrapup of the show with a very gentle little teaser at the end for a possible fourth season - but I'm disappointed. And it really tells you the lie that is Netflix quality television. 

 

They keep shows that encourage teenage suicide, shows that employ alleged sexual predators, keep shows that encourage a "love story" between a young gay black man and the young white man who subjects him to racist attacks and spits on him, yet they have no time for this show. 

 

Shameful. Most shameful of all because it's not even surprising.

Sex Education. A young gay black man is often tormented at school and one of the main voices is the young white son of the administrator, or whatever the term may be. At the end of the season they have detention together and he stands up for himself during an argument, which leads them to fight. He spits on the racist white guy, who then spits on him. "He Hit Me And It Felt Like A Kiss" plays on the soundtrack as they make out. The racist white closet case tells him not to go anywhere near him afterward, but does touch fingers with him when no one is looking so...yay....I guess....?!?!?

 

The character is written out so maybe if enough people were unhappy he will stay away, but it was disturbing to me to see Netflix jumping on this bandwagon of material that promotes whites abusing or having power positions over blacks as sexy and kinky.
