Yes, representation does matter.

 

I don't mean to stir up trouble or beat a dead horse but... The long term story of Hilary working her way up much like Neil did is one of the main reasons Devon's wealth doesn't work for Sally. MiM is believable in a business setting. I buy Hilary as the competent exec. I doubt that's  unnoticed in the creative meetings. But telling that story doesn't work when she's married to a billionaire unless it's his company with his wealth tied to it.  CI is the only option at the moment.

Melissa Ordway is pretty but bland, Victor doesn't need yet another uninteresting child. Her scenes yesterday made her seem like a teenage working for her father and begging to not be an intern anymore. She's 30 playing some undetermined age. It's just all not a good look. These younger characters need definition. None of them aside from Hillary and Mariah have a thing that makes them them.  Not even Lily and she's been on the show for 15 years.

 

I wasn't watching when she was introduced but reading Chelsea's backstory and she's totally incomprehensible as a character. She came on pregnant with Billy's baby saying he raped her? And she did this multiple times with different guys? She gave her baby to Billy and Victoria to raise and then got pregnant by *someone* (I don't remember who), lost that baby and then got pregnant again and passed that baby off as Dylan's (and don't even get me started on this dude) when it was Adam's? And it's revealed that Jeffrey Bardwell, another unnecessary blight on the show, is her father?

 

She's a walking talking plot point baby incubator. I wouldn't want to write for her either.

 

These characters lack inner lives, goals and ambitions. They either need to be redefined or culled.

if under SS this is becoming THe Gloria Show again.....then I'll stay in FF mode until I cut it off. I'm sick of her already...and what is this that now she commits corporate espionage and will probably get away with it (like she did when John went to prison after her ass poisoned Jabot product)?

I thought about that and decided not to mention it for the same reasons you're probably thinking. Also, I also tend to think of Dru as more of a ballerina/model turned executive whereas Hillary, fresh out of college veered directly to the corporate track (after playing chess with the Winters' lives, of course).

They could have modernized that though or at least made it more believable for their status. He could have downloaded an app to meet girls or boys and had the accountant tip her off when he read the bill.

It's wild to me that people who run a TV show have NO idea how television works.

 

Let's say Les Moonves, Julie Chen's husband, was in a terrible car accident and needed her by his side, do you think they'd stop producing The Talk for weeks on end? No. They're either replace her or get one of the other co-hosts to fill her spot. They wouldn't stop producing the show. That puts dozens of people out of work. That would cause their advertisers, who buy ad time months in advance, to revolt. That's just not how the world works. And if the show is not being produced, a show about the daily scandalous lives of the denizens of Genoa City, why are staff even at the office? What are they doing?

 

Lily modeling looked like a bad ad from 1985. She's not sexy, she looks like an ostrich in drag. 

 

Also someone should have told Beastmaster that Cane (whose addiction story seems to have disappeared) was supposed to look upset that Lily was modeling again because he looked nothing but happy despite what Jill said.

This porn storyline is stupid. God this is all Sallug has going for here. Look dear umbrella storytelling. She has a right to bash Lynn Latham and then rips off from her. Shes the worst hack i havd ever seen.

Not to my knowledge. The last time I saw her at GC Buzz she was reading a statement to the audience about Devon's accident and wishing him a full recovery and telling the viewers that they were going to be showing pre-recorded episodes until further notice.

That was my initial thought- that it would be ironic if because of this accident, Hillary decides to let go of hosting GC Buzz and makes the decision to put Mariah onto hosting duties. Maybe I was hopeful that Hillary would end up muscling into a BOD/exec job at CI (that company needs to be revived) and mixing it up with Jill. 

 

Y&R needs subplots to their stories (with 5 days a week to do it, I think they have the time). This Devon accident story desperately needs one, especially since the initial premise (Hillary tripping Mariah) was so weak.

 

But I agree that it is clear that they are investing in making Hillary and Devon more than one dimensional character. 

 

A for effort.

 

This could be so much more though.
