February 19, 201610 yr Member Josh could participate and help Jelly write their umbrella storytelling which accompanies the whole cast.
February 19, 201610 yr Member This change has to be related to (a) finances and/or (b) the final deal Corday cut with NBC for the last year this show will be on the air. I think it's both. Quan is the lowest ranked writer on the staff; he will be paid minimum union wage for sure and he won't have the power that Griffith had. I happen to think that Griffith was NBC's pick and that for this final year, Corday negotiated total control of the writing (which he hasn't had in a long time). I bet Corday wanted Griffith gone and doesn't want NBC telling him who should write the show. Quan is probably there to help Dena and Mark Higley (the couple acted as the scab headwriters during the 2008 strike; Mark is certainly working on story with Dena...) work on the last year of story. Plus the licensing fee was probably further eroded and cuts had to be made. Don't be surprised of more writers are let go and the staff trimmed down. No, Sony were the ones that wanted Griffith to head write Days, they have wanted it for years. Corday wanted Higley. NBC loved TomSell.
February 19, 201610 yr Member I'm guessing this guy is Asian? Have soaps ever had a non-white headwriter? Yes, he is. Michelle ValJean, who is African American, held the co-head writing position at GH for a short stint in 2001. SN: Why all the diverse people that come into head writing in daytime positions gotta share it? We can't never hold the title by ourselves. Thanks, and he's young. If this were a different time and place and of Days and NBC and Corday wasn't garbage this could have been very promising. Alas...
February 19, 201610 yr Member I don't think there's good news here, really. Griffith is talented but deserved to be fired for that rape, IMO. That being said he was still the only kind of quality writing hire DAYS has had in years. We prioritize hyperbole on the Internet but while daytime is often the exception to this rule few writers are all good or all bad. Griffith goes too dark and IMO warranted firing or a better co-writer, but he's also done great work and clearly loved some of those vets who Higley will dispense with (Patch and Kayla, who I love). Anyone who truly believes the new guy is going to blaze a new path should check out this swamp land I'm selling. All Corday cares about is cheap, familiar and willing to work with his manic ADD - that's Dena Higley, his favorite lady. He has no commitment to hiring writers of quality or trusting in any vision other than that of his flighty mind and his yes-people. Edited February 19, 201610 yr by Vee

Ok..Sony then, my point is that Sony or NBC has had at least half a say in who writes the show for years. I believe it was a condition each renewal period. This time is different. And I believe it's because the show will only be on another year while NBC develops a replacement. Licensing fees were cut. No money to pay two veteran headwriters. Quan has no experience telling stories; he comes cheap. This is Dena/Ken's show starting in Sept 2016. I've already stopped watching. They lost me with the Andre/Stefano/Hope plot. And now the rape. The last six months did seem to have Griffith's noir/murder/mayhem stamp (that was never Dena's style).

The episodes airing now are Griffith's after Dena went on a LOA.
February 19, 201610 yr Administrator August-November was Griffith but December and January was Dena. How so?
February 19, 201610 yr Member We don't know how long Dena was out this summer but we know that Beth Milstein changed her profile to show Days as her workplace in beginning of July. Long story is written at least 8 months before airdate. So it's possible recent Feb episodes were outlined while she was gone maybe in June but her long story document would have been done and Griffith would have been working off that during her short absence. All the stuff airing is collaborative story between the two headwriters.
February 19, 201610 yr Member I'm guessing this guy is Asian? Have soaps ever had a non-white headwriter? Does this mean we can hope for Paul's awesome mother to return to the canvas? Her performance was so captivating. I'm guessing this guy is Asian? Have soaps ever had a non-white headwriter? Wow, he's a baby. Was he in kindergarten when Marlena was possessed?
February 19, 201610 yr Member IDK if he was a baby around the time of Marlena's possession but reports say he started off as a writing assistant at Passions. Lord, I hope he does not try and emulate JER for those who are still watching. Edited February 19, 201610 yr by Nothin'ButAttitude

Lord, I hope he does not try and emulate JER for those who are still watching. I had to look him up and checked out Jason's page. He graduated from UCLA in 1999. Still a relative young'un, but not David Kreizman young.
