Y&R: November 2015 Thread

This used to be my all-time fave soap opera. This show used to know how to make great stories. It's funny that Y&R is the only soap that it so far from what it used to be. On all the other three soaps, there is something that at least somewhat resembles what it's always been (good or bad). With Y&R, it's a completely different show. Sometimes I try to watch but this show is so nonsensical and spastic. It's frustrating. It's badly written with some pretty terrible and nauseating characters (Sage, Victor, Stitch are the main three that come to mind) leading stories.

TBH, I liked Pratt when he wrote GH (unpopular opinion-- was not my fave era of the show, mind you -- but I did enjoy it for the most part). Here on Y&R, he has really ruined the show and ripped out its soul. I liked what Griffith was doing with the show. He brought it back from the dreck that was MAB latter years. But with Pratt, this is the worse shape Y&R has ever been. None of these characters even act like themselves. Even with the mucky vision from LML and MAB (both, who were good at the beginning and then bombed fast), Pratt is the only headwriter, who seems not to understand who these characters are at all. Neil, Phyllis, Sharon, Jill, Ashley are all glaring examples of this. All my opinion, of course.

Under Pratt AMC went from a soap that had lots of potential & interesting family dynamics around the time of Jesse & Angie's wedding to a soap where Stuart's murdered by Adam, Bianca becomes pregnant with her brother in law's baby behind her sister's back, Jesse covers up crimes for his ex-prostitute daughter in law, Marian has a breakdown & is institutionalized, Erica is sent to prison for insider trading & eventually falls in love with Ryan, etc.

The same thing is happening with Y&R.

Sooner or later under Pratt we'll probably end up with

Thomas Calabro as the new Nick

Courtney Thorne-Smith as the new Sharon

Jack Wagner as the new Jack

Daniel Cosgrove as the new Billy

Alyssa Milano as the new Victoria

Patrick Muldoon as the new Adam

Laura Leighton as the new Patty

OMG, Daniel Cosgrove.  LOL, I could see that happening...right before Billy gets killed off and the show gets cancelled soon after.

If we end up with Alyssa Milano as Victoria, then I'll want Danny Pintauro as Nick.

Not really, seeing that I could actually see Jack Wagner playing Jack lol but at least it would solidify Pratt to make Y&R his Melrose Place 3.0. Next all weed is MTS to be replaced by Heather Locklear...

I'm suddenly having nightmarish images of Marcia Cross as Phyllis blowing up Jabot...

I would take Laura Leighton on ANY show! If her character were a fun schemer like Sydney she would be great on Y&R. Maybe she could be Joe's ex-wife/girlfriend and come wreck havoc.

It's a shame. It's obvious that Pratt has no idea what he's doing here. It's like he just thinks of a plot point on the spot in the writer's room, then quickly pulls a character name out of a hat, gives said character the storyline (whether it fits the character or not), and before he can flesh out the idea, he gets bored and moves on to a new plot point. Goes through the same process over and over again. To those who love what they're watching right now, more power to you, but none of you could have been watching the show for long. Am I right in believing you're new viewers?

Trust me, if she WERE to blow up Jabot, she'd be doing a ton of folks a tremendous favor.

And with that, we'll get Josie Bissett as the new Avery...
