This can be a few episodes in, a few seasons in, whatever you want.

There are many in my head, but my quick choices would be shows I've watched more recently - Castiel on Supernatural (such a rich, complex character when given the opportunity to be more than a plot point or a joke), and Ben on Parks and Rec. Parks and Rec totally fell apart after the third season, but I love Ben. He's smart, supportive, funny, sweet, yet he's also incredibly neurotic and terrified. And I love his geekiness and that way he is so elitist in that geekiness even when he doesn't mean to be.

A few others...

Sue Ann Nivens - I often felt like she was too reduced to a dirty joke machine, but on the few times they allowed Betty White more of a chance, she was stupendous. And the vibrating bed was the funniest thing ever on MTM, or close anyway.

Iola on Mama's Family - I'm not sure I could have stomached the cheap syndicated years of Mama's Family without her. Beverly Archer was a delight.

Disowning you, Carl, for shading the syndicated years of Mama's Family. Those episodes were gold!!

My #1 favorite TV character of all time (well, when it's not Miss Kane) is Dawson's Creek's Jack McPhee, who first appeared in the second season. He was such a warm, honest character and a perfect fit for the show, especially as the central triangle created perpetual drama for the core 4 and took away a bit of the atmosphere of the first season. The show just wouldn't have been the same without him.

Heather Locklear added to Melrose Place half-way through Season One.

Joan Collins added to Dynasty at the start of Season Two (though I *loved* season one).

Johnny Galecki and Sandra Bernhard added to Roseanne in Season Four; Martin Mull added in Season 3-4 (then left and rejoined for good in Season 6).

-Bringing the delicious Sable Colby over to Dynasty in season 9 was a brilliant move. After The Colbys "failed", the producers could have easily severed all ties to the spin-off, but they wisely and thankfully saw what a winner they had in Stephanie Beacham.

-Little Billy on Who's the Boss, Halyalkar was the child actor's last name iirc, was one of the few instances where the sitcom trope of adding a new cute kid actually worked. Little Earl on What's Happening!! is another example though that began to crumble as the series neared its end.

-Monroe on TCFC. He brought out the comedic best in Ted Knight, not unlike his relationship with his son in Caddyshack ("You'll get nothing, and LIKE it!")

-Abby.

-Kim and Freddie.

-Charmaine and Lance.

Riley on Buffy - the most hated main Buffyverse character of all time next to Connor? Are you on crack? But speaking of the Buffyverse, I have to add my favourite character from both series who came onto the show in season three, Anya. She was unfortunately underused a lot, but she basically saved the day in the season 5 finale and was the MVP in two major episodes; the musical episode during and in "The Body" where she gives her fruit punch speech about not understanding human death, easily one of the best moments in the history of the show.

Here's the fruit punch speech ... (sorry about the quality, couldn't find a better version)

That is interesting. I know the rest of the WTB? cast have said publicly that they were highly displeased with his arrival and were glad when the producers gave him a quick exit.

    • I've been pondering how strange it is that in real life NLG was being more supportive of Haley Pullos than I would have been ....  and now Alexis is doing that for Kristina.
    • Natalia worrying about her dress getting dirty during her DUI arrest had to be a reference to Haley Pullos and the $400 shirt.   The birth scene was really good. It could have been OTT but wasn't. There was this great moment was Michael was talking about how he's seen every sonogram and been with her all the way where it registered with Willow that he's been extremely involved with this and she had no idea but then couldn't say anything because she's obviously cheating too. And then they acknowledged each other and he actually thanked her. It was very humanizing for both characters.
    • This show treats Claire like a glorified extra prop not the granddaughter of the 2 biggest supercouples this show has ever had. I don't think was ever invested in Claire nor writing for her & her connections to majority of the town. What a waste of a legacy character with so much potential
    • Kim Zimmer could have had a nice career as a supporting actress in Hollywood, but that does not appear to be what she wanted. That's fine, but in the eighties, she was not going to have many options as a leading actress. The eighties were brutal for a performer like her.  Her one big film role lasted a minute or two. Even while she was on GL, she should have been doing episodic television. Was her agent that incompetent or was she just bad at auditioning? Her episode of "Designing Women" was quite popular and was discussed at the time for its subject matter, but she never followed up on it. It's bizarre to me.
    • Billy just showed up for Vanessa's memorial (Sept 9, '96), which is so nice!  My first time seeing him like this outside of random clips from the past. He's out of jail for 24 hours, so not long. It's good to see him with the family.
    • Definitely was more recent than not; when the set originally returned, the change hadn't happened.
    • It was nice seeing Victorias house and I see it’s been remodelled. I’m sure this happened awhile ago but since I tuned out from the show for so long I am only noticing it now. Looks beautiful though!  Also, Billy and Sally gross me out so much. I don’t know what it is I hate so much about them. They give me the ick. Definitely a mismatch. I don’t buy that these people would be attracted to eachother in real life much less have a relationship..

    • Also, isn’t there supposed to be a storyline with Mariah and Tessa? Mariah cheating or something (keeping some kind of secret) and they were only on screen 2 and 3 times this month. Like what? How am I supposed to care when I barely see them?
    • Definitely wouldn't trust Dinah right now haha.  But that's great to know Billy comes back soon!  I'm excited for that. If he's at the boardinghouse, then I guess he does get closer to Nola perhaps, and then he'll be around Peter/Bridget and J, who is currently in his orbit along with Michelle and Dahlia, and Marcus is at the boardinghouse, so maybe they go the teenage story route most of this time until Billy gets back.
