Another Y&R actor out??

That's how I was when Tony Goldwyn responded to a tweet of mine. I tripped so hard I couldn't function for the rest of the night and I consider myself fairly unflappable when it comes to these things. laugh.png

It's funny, I pretty much hate Twitter (clearly) and rarely use it except to send nice messages to actors (I'll never understand people who hate-tweet actors) and to spout off about politics because I know that sort of thing gets counted. The only reason I even joined was because last year was an election year and I wanted to throw shade at the weasel who was running against my senator.

The most interesting part of MTS tweet - "Terrible loss 2 the show." Obviously, she recognizing MM's talent and/or popularity. This six-month period of Y&R reminds me of 2001-2002 when Y&R lost (Shemar, AB and Scott Reeves) - the show suffered greatly with a huge loss in audience. Here we've lost: the great JC as well as MS, BM and MM. That is a lot of change in a short period of time.

Also, since MM pretty much confirmed a situation, if it does involve the actress who has been mentioned, it probably would be best not to use her name. I've seen so many posting asking for her "privacy" and, yet, they name her. That's is a bit hypocritical and she should have never been identified on these boards (or other sites). The whole situation is incredibly bizarre.

I think Shemar Moore is often credited as the biggest reason for the drop, although somehow nobody points out that the show in 2002 when the drop occurred was almost deathly boring/unexciting (while still well written). I wonder if that had anything to do with it. whistling.jpg

The two situations aren't comparable. Malcolm, Mac and Ryan were three extremely popular characters played by actors that the Y&R audience genuinely loved in general. And, even then, the show wouldn't have faced consequences if the writing wasn't dull. BM and MM's "popularity" comes from few, extremely vocal stans fans (who probably watched the show exclusively for them) and newer viewers who have no idea what Y&R even was pre-2009 and aren't nearly as loyal to the show. The fans who have watched long will keep the numbers exactly where they are because these people don't matter. Like MS' exit proved, there will be no consequences in the ratings.

I'd say Shemar was the main reason why the ratings fell, although, as you mention, the show was not great and was clearly aimless.

Great point about the type of viewer who is supposedly going to leave the show now. People who watch just because of an actor, one actor, rarely make a difference in ratings, because these fans tend to make a lot of noise to make up for their only being among a handful of people who share that love/devotion for said actor.

Many are assuming that SONY was behind the firing, and I'm not so sure, it very well might have been CBS. This is only speculation, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Hunter went to Jill, didn't get any satisfaction with the incident, and then went over her head. I just don't see SONY execs being available to a girl like Hunter, a non contract player on one of their properties. But we do know that "The Talk" tapes in close vicinity, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if Hunter went over and confided in Julie, knowing that she is the direct line to Les. Then Les might have just laid down the law and axed him. Could have happened, but it's just speculation at this point.
