DAYS: June 2013 Discussion Thread

There's plenty more I can post that is more general about DAYS being good (see below for examples) ... I just singled out stuff naming writers in my earlier post to document that DAYS writers get praised by name too.

I hope Days's ratings spike even further.

RT @tvdean: With all of his complimentary tweets, @nelliebranco has me convinced to start watching #DAYS #DOOL again

Nelson Branco @nelliebranco 1 Jun

So impressed the real kicker in this Kristen story is that she grew. #Days Brilliant.

Nelson Branco @nelliebranco 1 Jun

Wish Days got some more cash from NBC to improve sets. They've got the content, NBC/Sony should invest.

Nelson Branco @nelliebranco 22 May

Thank God for #Days

Anyway, my point wasn't to hijack this thread into a bunch of tweets, or to otherwise hijack the thread away from discussing the show -- sorry! There's enough of that in other threads. I just needed somewhere to put all of that.

You know as well as I do that the show has been this level of quality since roundabout Christmas. Yes, the stories climaxed in May sweeps, but the quality has been about the same over this period. But it is only now that these so-called journalists have begun to gush. If they had any credibility, they would have been gushing then as they do now, since nothing has really changed in the last 6 months. It's an indictment on them that they cannot critically assess a show, but instead follow internet sentiment like sheeple and fangurls.

For all we know, the show may have already creatively peaked if the next batch of stories are not as good as the last ones. But these "industry professionals" will be the last to call it, like they do with GH now and MAB at Y&R in the past. How is anyone supposed to respect such opinions then?

Indeed, those sex scenes were graphic, but really really hot.

The highlight of the episode for me were the Marlena/Adrienne scenes though. The primary weapon in Marlena's attack is call out others for their actions, but she has no dirt on Adrienne and had to try a different tack - that made it so interesting to watch. Neither were correct, but neither were wrong. Adrienne probably "won" on balance. Such great drama! After a couple of wobbly episodes, Salmons was back on form today.

Justin/Adrienne/Sonny scenes were nice too. They are such a great juxtaposition to the dysfunctionality of Sami/Lucas/Will/EJ. Adrienne is going to blow a gasket when she learns that Justin has been helping EJ. Judi Evans is superb.

Jennifer really is a naive twit.

Good show today - interesting beats to the stories played out that many writers would have skipped out.

If Chandler leaves in December that means he would last air in... April-ish right? Man, after Chandler a recast is gonna be such a slippery slope... If they pursue a recast they really should rest the character for a bit to give us as the audience some time to adjust.. Have Will go visit Carrie and Austin in Switz. for the summer and then Will could come back in the fall for the new semester at school or something... They need to take their time and have a SLOW transition. It would be SUPER hard to have Chandler on-screen one day and then a recast the next day.

De age Will and have Chandler's brother take over the role...lol....or hire Chad Duelle in the role and put Chandler's brother in the role on GH as Michael...lol

Yes...Days has been pretty good lately with scenes like the one with Dee and Judi....

Chandler never said he was leaving. He talked about how he wants to get a degree, sure, but that doesnt mean he is out. I think he is likely to exit, but things can be worked out. Thats the point of negotiation when your contract is up, esp when you are a fan favorite, in a front burner story line, and just won two emmys. If they dont work something out the role will likely just be recasted, but the already long list of potential recasts that supposedly have some weight to them is amusing, because he wouldnt exit to december so even if they did a right away recast, the new actor likely wont start until january (and air until may...)

    • So many things would have had to be different for Mary to want to go back to Reginald. It could have been interesting if it had been handled completely differently but as it was we had a very black and white Mary good/Reginald bad. If she had been able to ignore his worldly crimes and how he treated his own children there was still the fact that he had separated her from her children. Maybe if they had shown us more intimacy and affection between them and had allowed him to have real vulnerabilities it could have worked but as it played out they didn't do much to present him with any sympathetic hook. There are a lot of ways to define wanting things to work. Fans are mostly thinking of preserving or restoring characters and an atmosphere that drew them to the show. The sponsor may only be thinking of the bottom line. When a producer or HW comes in and decides that their vision will deliver for the bottom line and they need to fire most of the cast in order to do it it can feel very much like not caring.
    • I remember this getting a lot of criticism at the time.
    • Maeve breaks me reading that letter. If you ever need to cry, look it up. Other than the dopey line about Henry wanting to come home to Van's rice (or tapioca) pudding (VANESSA CHAMBERLAIN DOES NOT COOK, Y'all...) it's a sweet sign-off to one of the best father/daughter relationships on soaps. Other than Ross, and Bill (if he says something, which I assume he does) and the letter, the rest of it is BS. I haven't watched it in a while, but it typifies what I dislike most about events that should be laden in history. The writers are too lazy to do the work and get it right. And it becomes about making sure characters X, Y and Z make their guarantees. Roger being there is an abomination. Henry never ever saw Nola as a gold-digger. She and Quint were practically engaged before he even knew Quint was his son. Before that, he was fairly close to Bea and enjoyed Nola's spirit. And Henry never helped Rick become an Eagle Scout.  I get that maybe you don't want to play Amanda#1 or Dinahs 1&2, or Billy, Trish or Alan #1 clips, but damn it....don't make stuff up. I'd have much rather watched clips from Henry, Vanessa and Ross' early days than Rick blather on, or nuMichelle try and dig for a human-like emotion or wonder why after TEN YEARS, Dinah and Quint have never met.   Do not remember anyone named Tina. I barely remember Dahlia, and that's mostly because for a while, I saw Sharon Leal in everything after she left GL.   Reva and Josh airhogs? ALWAYS, darling. ALWAYS. RME. I hate to tar and feather Robert Newman with that brush, but DAMN.
    • Oooooooooooooo a Jazmen script off of a Sara Bibel breakdown.    I'm intrigued. Lol. Yeah, one thing I can say for sure...when SilkPress is about to have a crazy moment, they do give her music.
    • I am so happy now. Reminds me of the 80s show I loved. Ron really did the cast and fans dirty. The only people complaining are those who only knew Ron and his whiplash plot driven stories
