Maria Arena Bell disses JFP's Y&R in SOD

  • Member

As we know Maria Arena Bell had an interview in SOD talking about what she is up to. She said she won't be at emmys as she will be out of country. She loves what Prospect Park is doing with AMC/OLTL. Then she really nails JFP/JG for throwing out her stories like the Phyllis/Paul storyline for their own stories. She founds the show very flat with no excitement and tons of unfamilar characters. She also said she always fought for her vision and kept Y&R the golden standard and kept the show recognizable. She said while she would have loved to have come back shes moved on. She would never say never to a daytime return and would like to do a non network show. This is my commentary: I honestly can't believe the stuff out of this woman's mouth. She really should shut up. She was FIRED rightfully so. Ratings were falling, her budget was out of control hiring old soap vets in terrible miscast parts, Victor/Sharon are enough said. While I am finding JFP/JG's Y&R a bit dull its nowhere near as offensive as MAB's show. I honestly think MAB despises JFP for taking her job and I don't think Jill could give a damn about Maria. She was offered to be EP of number 1 soap u think JFP would turn down that gig. Maria has alot of sour grapes about her firing. Its probably cause she is rich and is used to getting what she wants, she is a socialite.

Maria needs to hold a mirror to her face b/c she is one deluded clown. Everything she claims in wrong with Y&R now is what was wrong with her version of Y&R. Her show was flat. Her interpretation of the characters were REALLY unrecognizable and to think that she put out stellar material just shows how stupid she is. Any hack that thinks multiple doppelgängers (i.e. Phyllis/Sheila, John/Allistar, & William/Jeffery), numerous retcons, and a damn chipmunk story is not "golden" age material. Maria needs to stick her head and hands and in blinder and get someone to press the power button b/c the witch is worthless.

Mo'Nique should be ASHAMED of herself for treating a child that way.

I thought the same thing and for a hot minute I was like "I don't remember that scene in Precious"....

Is she talking about Paul's story where she overaged his son and made him a cartoon villain or the one where he jumped under Phyllis's bus?

And lets not even bring up last years gala

That bitch can have a seat

Honestly, Y&R's current problems are likely due mostly to Josh Griffith's writing style, which lacks momentum, imagination, and follow-through. The show just needed a stronger writer to execute some of the current ideas. No real damage to the core of the show is being done right now, which simply cannot be said for MAB's tenure. The show is relatively safe in comparison and nothing a more imaginative writer couldn't fix.

A lot of MAB's damage on the other hand, IMO, is irreversible.

Josh was great on OLTL.. even the short time he was a sole HW...

well I always say a HW great on one soap, is probably horrible on another

I just noticed that she actually said "my vision." Remember when she said that back in 2009 when the soap press was kissing her pashmina posterior 24/7? I could never stand the stench she brought to Y&R. I think those articles disappeared but they tell you just how delusional she was and how she was enabled by people who should have known better.

Thank you. She ruined Ricky, who could've been a potential long time bad boy in Y&R. She of course made him her psycho of the month. mad.gif I still wish Maria's stupid a** around that time would've: 1) Kept Paul mad at Nikki after she left him at the altar for Victor, thus making him have a growing disdain for all things Newman 2) Brought Ricky to town and have him fall for Abby while pissing Paul off 3) Built a strong sibling bond with Heather & Ricky b/c they were both neglected by Paul 4) Played Paul v. Victor with Ricky & Abby in the middle. Killing Ricky off was just stupid and IMO made Paul even more worthless.

Then to go on and have Paul not want to pursue Phyllis running him and Cricket down, an event that played a pivotal role in their marriage, is unforgivable.

Oh and while I am on this rant, this trick wants to talk about giving up golden material but she character assassinated two of Y&R's greatest heroines: Sharon & Ashley. Ashley became nothing but a "talk-to" and a shrew; meanwhile, Sharon became the town slut. And while IDC for Nikki (Lizzy Borden-esque granny) Newman, she demolished her too by having her kill Diane.

Maria just needs to open her coffin in lie in it b/c the b*tch is dead.

I don't know what was worse for Nikki; killing Diane and slutting it up in a roach motel with Deacon.

The obnoxious writing for Abby damn near ruined the character and reflected on Ashley as well.

There are no words to describe how badly Sharon was damaged.

I hate how Maria wrote Abby too. I ALWAYS wanted Abby to give Nikki grief like Victoria gave Ashley all those years--to give Nikki a dose of her own medicine. Maria started off doing this but quickly made Abby a Team Nikki card carrying member angry.png . That whole killing Diane mystery was gruesome and slap in the face to Maura West & Barbara Bloom, who wanted Maura on Y&R. I still don't believe that this woman worked under the Bill Bell. I say that about his son too but he shows his moments on B&B where you can tell. Maria, I saw no Bell-esque moments with her at helm. If she worked under Bill Bell, clearly she wasn't taking notes. She was too busy focused on MOCA and being a socialite. closedeyes.jpg

Nothing Phelps and Griffith have done so far has been offensive or unwatchable. Sure it can be boring and lacking good rhythm but some of it holds my interest and as mediocre as they can be it says a lot that we have Chelsea, Avery, and Leslie(not mediocre!) as leading heroines as opposed to Phyllis, Chloe, Daisy and the other ilk.

This is like Ron Moss trying to drag Drake Hogestyn's acting. Maria has no room to come for anyone for being a hack after the crap she was churning out. LMAO at her saying the show is filled with too many unfamiliar characters when she's the one who brought on all the AMC rejects and past their prime sitcom stars.

Yes JFP is her own brand of show killer, but as of right now she's made Y&R watchable again

Oh I believe you. Like I say I've never heard of this person until today. But I have had TOO much experience with the Farrett. So I just like anyone bashing JFP to the press. She, like Craptini, gets too much AK from them when they all should be run out of daytime on a rail.

I forgot about Patty and the stuffed kitty. That is another character that was trashed by MAB. Patty hadn't been seen since the mid 80s, but it would have given Paul some family.. plus given Jack/Diane a character to play against. Except they turned her into a cartoon psycho instead of the wounded, misguided girl that she was in the 1980s.

I'm crying with laughter!

BTW what do the sandwiches represent? The flabby leading men in love scenes?

Malcolm, who was "making sandwiches" during MAB's reighn and played by the ugly as hell Darius McCrary.

Lol good point but they actually represent the beginning of this story:

yr21.jpg

It seemed whenever Malcolm was actually on-screen he'd be making sandwiches or some type of food for everyone and had an off-screen romance at the time, when he wasn't making sandwiches...it was a running joke for the potpourri threads we use to have.
