I don't see the issue with wanting these on tv. Arrested Development was cancelled years ago but is getting a revival set to debut on Netflix very soon. I still wish that was being aired on TV

There's nothing wrong with wanting at all. I'm not moving to predominantly internet viewing until I absolutely have to. I'm just saying that the shows were removed from TV and the option is internet.

I thought the original plan was to replace Soapnet with Disney Junior, circa January 2012. I was unaware that Disney Junior was able to be launched while sparing Soapnet.

The only reason to put AMC/OLTL on SoapNet is to appease the elderly viewers who refuse to use computers.

That's certainly a good reason to put them on Soapnet. But, it seems as if the main point of the network (originally) was to air same day repeats of soaps, so re-airing AMC/OLTL goes along with that purpose. I wasn't aware that the PP/ABC contract prohibits these shows from going on television until September. Even then, however, I could totally see Hulu trying to block both shows from being seen on Soapnet.

The "not till September" contract is actually with Hulu not with ABC.

That makes sense, because Hulu is the party that will suffer most if AMC/OLTL are shown on TV. Thank you for the correction.

Bye, Bye SOAPnet? Network Finally Ceasing Operations By Years End?

The ABC Cable Networks Group, a division of Disney/ABC Television Group, has informed cable and satellite operators across the United States that they will cease operating SOAPnet, the cable network devoted to airing same day episodes of “Days of our Lives” and “General Hospital” at night along with off-network airing rights to such shows as “Veronica Mars,” “Beverly Hills,90210,” “Gilmore Girls,” “One Tree Hill” and more. The network, which launched January 20, 2000, is expected to go dark effective on December 31, 2013 at 11:59:59 PM EST. Despite SOAPnet’s reported replacement, Disney Junior, already operating since 2012 on several providers across the country, the kids friendly network will officially replace the women’s network at 12:00:00 AM EST on January 1, 2014.

It's time. SOAPnet has unfortunately been dead for many years now. It was SO promising in the beginning. It's too bad it couldn't be an over-the-air network that doesn't have to really worry as much about ratings. Oh well.

:( I always try to watch DAYS on there so I don't have to online.

I gave up watching SOAPNet about a year ago when I realized I could watch General Hospital via OnDemand.

Don't even get me started on how much stuff I gave up when I bought a Roku back in March and hooked it up to my TV. Pretty much 75% of everything I had been watching pre-Roku.

I agree, though, SOAPNet was downright thrilling circa 2004.

Soapnet's promos for DAYS were always better than NBC's lol

the NBC promos for Days back in the 80s to mid-2000s, were awesome
