AMC: The Prospect Park Era (old production thread)

If they're going to have Miranda - and clearly they are - then they have to have Bianca in some way. PP has access to at least some of the ABC AMC archive because they used old clips in their initial preview video, and if they're planning to tell a story about Miranda finding out about her origins, then I can see why they'd want Eden as Bianca. CBL grew on me toward the end, but if they're retelling the story of how Miranda came to be, I want Eden in that. But at the same time, that story NEEDS Kendall and Erica.

I had heard rumors that ER would have more availability after a certain date, but now she's pregnant, so who knows what the plan is for Bianca at this point.

Exactly! It just doesn't make any sense, especially with the who is my father story they teased. IDK maybe the new writers reworked it after they realized it was a bit silly to think Miranda wouldn't know about the origin of her birth especially after Erica went on several media tours discussing it and everyone in town was at Bianca's rape trial, and as I recall Michael Cambias was interviewed by the press when the charges were dropped. Or that she would buy the story of Bianca going to a sperm bank at that age without questioning it at all.

But to tease that story so heavily and not be able to play it out because there are literally no Kanes on set is odd. It isn't working and they have to do something...I am a big Eden fan but if I have to adjust to a recast in order for them to be able to tell the story they are trying to tell correctly then I am perfectly willing to do that.

I agree that Miranda's paternity story will require all the Kane women but other than that I don't see a "big, gaping hole." I like Erica a lot and would be happy to see her return but when she does, her contribution needs to be meaningful. IMO, we don't need another round of Enchantment vs. Fusion.

I would love for DC to be on the show more, but reasons out of the show's control factor into the decision. I think SL's return is also just completely out of control of the show. SL has two other shows, one of which is a huge hit, and where she is allowed to portrayed comedy (IMO her strongest acting). I would be shocked if SL comes back at all, and if she does, out of loyalty to Agnes Nixon, IMHO, it will only be as a guest star role, similar to DC.

As for Eden and Alicia, I think both actresses will appear on the show, especially as Miranda's paternity is concerned, but I don't think either (even if have a signed contract) will be full-time. Both have young families, and want to explore other aspect of acting.

I feel like the producers are doing their best with story when they have a group of actors from one family who don't want to work full-time.

Mostly likely as a guest star. From my understanding, very few primetime shows will allow its actors to be regulars on other shows. There are exceptions of course like Heather Locklear. HBS also comes to mind.

Impossible. Miranda's like, 16. tongue.png

Preach it!

Well, I think they could kill two birds with one stone by bringing back Maggie as a character. I know a lot of people are attached to EH as Maggie, but if they want to work with Eden's schedule they could just bring Maggie back that way no time is wasted on developing a new character just for that and Bianca has a love interest that can play a parental role to Miranda. Also, David would have a family member as an ally. It is a bit hard to watch the everybody hates David show so I would like to see a family member in his corner

When watching Devious Maids, it makes me think I might not mind an Erica Kane return if she's written a little more like SL's character Genivieve (sp?). Perhaps a taste of stardom has made Erica realize she's found happiness that no man can give her, have her become a panelist on a "The View" type series and have Dmitri court her for a talk show of her own on Chandler Media, much to Brooke's disgust. But make it so she literally just makes flying visits before jetting back off to Los Angeles. That way Erica's presence is still there but she isn't being the fawning fiftysomething (and that's being polite) ingenue.

No one show should "need" anybody. However they need to do a better job of using who they do have. Erica would be awesome and there is a void for the Kane's however I stand by it that no show "needs" anyone. And really its been 40 episodes. That's 2 months of regular 5 days a week soap. Even though the show has been back since earlier this year. Its not that long stretch of a time. I think they should have used Bianca better whether she was short term or not.

I was really, really hoping that watching her lover gunned down in front of her would harden Bianca a bit and give her a desire for revenge or something. I'm sorely disappointed that thus far she's still the "nice" Kane woman.

All in all, I felt like they got off to a decent start with Bianca, but then she just disappeared and hasn't returned which is what I think bothers so many of us. I really hope they can make better use of her in season 2.

    • As others (I think) have said, Long just didn't get Nola and Quint. I guess it would've been hard to write them into adventure type stories with two kids, but they just fell off the map after AJ's birth. (or even the wedding/honeymoon) Long would've had to rewrite something, because Alex forced the Chamberlains out of Spaulding in the fall of '84. Not that she couldn't have just ignored it and written Quint and Henry being involved at the firm. I swear there was some plot point she just literally ignored that surprised me, but as I'm floating around between years, I can't recall what it was. lol Has anyone found the first day of the Kyle/Lewis dinner party up in English? After he took over Lewis Oil, Kyle arranged a dinner party. All hell breaks loose--Mindy admits to shooting Kyle, Vanessa remembers Reva's accident, and Billy and Reva get into a screaming match and she tells HB that Billy blackmailed her out of her Lewis shares. The last three minutes (or so) of the episode are up, where Kyle tells the assembled that HB's his father. And the next episode picks up with Sally entering the fray. Y'all know I'm dying to hear Billy and Reva go at it. As dicey as '85 is, I love it anytime when Billy isn't Reva's bitch.
    • The original premise of "Santa Barbara" was that a Lockridge (Warren) killed a Capwell (Channing), who loved an Andrade (Santana), while a Perkins (Joe) went to jail for the crime. I think once the show started to pull away the threads by eliminating Joe and naming a new killer a lot of the show's original potential was lost. I contend, like others, that the fault lied in the uninspiring casting, which leads me to wonder if that's why the show became so keen on casting soap veterans for nearly every pivotal role.  The failure of the Perkins family was definitely a casting issue followed by a lack of interest in committing to the original onscreen characterization. I was fascinated watching the early episodes and realizing that the Perkins had been financially wiped out by the trial, which was an underlying current towards John's animosity towards his son. Then, the additional complication of Marissa's nearly incestual affection for Joe that led to her cutting off John sexually was a wild moment to witness, but not as strong as it could have been with a stronger actor in the role of John Perkins. Melissa Brennan wasn't the right choice for the aspiring young vixen that Jade was intended to be. Brennan may have breathed life into Laken, but I'm not sure how Julia Ronnie would have done in the role of Jade.  Despite the recorded history, Christina Robertson and Sarah Gallagher weren't sisters; they were aunt and niece.  I don't think it would have hurt to make Marissa and Augusta sisters, but I think it would have made the Joe / Augusta seduction impossible unless you truly mimick "Rituals" and make Joe Sarah's stepson. I think a childhood friendship between the two women would have worked. It would have also given Augusta someone to confide in about the situation involving Peter Flint and herself as Marissa would have been aware of Peter from her work at the pre school. As childhood friends that were estranged by class differences, I think a relationship between Augusta and Joe (and later Augusta and a sexually frustrated John) would have had multiple layers to play out giving a deeper impact on Augusta's involvement in both of the men in Marissa's life. And because I have thought about this all too much, I would have Augusta and Marissa square off again when Jade, after marrying Ted while pregnant, learned that the little Capwell heir was in fact an imprisoned Warren's son only for Augusta to ultimately keep mum because with Ted married to Jade he wasn't free to pursue Laken.  I imagine the Andrades would have slowly been withdrawn from the Capwell inner circle as the truth about Santana, Channing, Jr., and the baby came to light for everyone. In what I seen in the 1980s, Rosa confronts C.C. once about the baby and then seems to move on. Early in the run, the actor playing Reuben claims he and Bridget Dobson had a falling out and implied that she was racist which led to the character fading into the woodwork.  I know I am like maybe one of two people who liked the 1990s run of the Dobsons, but I loved the set up for Santana / C.C. with the Andrades having owned the land that Oasis sat on years earlier posing Santana to come into money while also potentially landing a position where she could raise Gina's son with C.C. if C.C. and Santana could have secured custody of the child. With Eden gone, I would have gone back to Santana and Cruz, but if not, I think Brick should have returned to be Santana's conscience and potential love interest.
    • Well, I'm not going to shoot you, so no worries there. If it's subpar i hate hearing that. It was an old DVD not even mine a former partner. I thought why not make use of it. Serves me right for thinking. But to be clear, white label, www.radiomemory.com
    • Just compared the open on Friday's episode with the first week episodes. I think the difference is that the bass line is much more apparent -- stronger and harder.
    • Phew, that was close to disaster!

I suspect we would have had a few withdrawals next year if Israel had won. I don't think many people would relish going to Jerusalem as things stand now. Not to mention it would have been a prime target for terrorist attacks.
    • And they've given us plenty. Sets, outdoor scenes, music licensing, etc. And that was the point of me using DAYS... so. It's obvious the casino set is not intended for long-term use, hence why it's likely it wasn't as evolved as the other community sets, etc.

    • I just had thought of how to save the Perkins family. (Inspired by Rituals) -- What if Marisa Perkins was Augusta Lockridge's sister? Fictionally, they could've both been local girls, one married rich and one married poor. Originally, I was going to suggest that Marisa be Sophia's sister, but then I realized Joe and Kelly would've been first cousins.  Of course, it would've truly inspired Sophia was if Rosa Andrade sister, with Rosa and Santana moving in to help CC raise the kids once Sophia disappeared.  While this could've avoided both gross CC and Santana affairs, the times were not right for a story about intersectional inequity.
