AMC: The Prospect Park Era (old production thread)

Then why not create a new drama that adheres to those timeless concepts instead of re-setting a show that, IMHO, had very little left at the end on which to rebuild and renew itself? Yeah, I know: because the name "All My Children" is a known brand. So what? A name isn't everything. A brand-new soap, with brand-new actors and characters, stands an equal chance of flopping or succeeding as one that purports to be a continuation of one that's been on-the-air for over 40 years.

We'll have to agree to disagree--but I really think at this point in time if these were brand new shows they wouldn't get one second of the interest (both from soap fans and the media) that they are getting. It's less of a gamble for a new company to commit this way-- To say it stands an equal chance of failing as abrand new show, which would be more of an uphill battle, is IMHO simply not true. That doesn't mean I'm fooled into thinking these will succeed but... If this was an original new soap would they be able to get Agnes Nixon's voice in it? Arguably there hasn't even been a successful new soap since the 70s.

You were disappointed by the trailer. So if that had been the trailer for a new show that wasn't AMC would you be more invested? I guess we also disagree about the state of AMC/OLTL in the end--yes they were amess (arguably more so AMC) but I think they were far from being at a spot where they were not salvageable.

The Martins. For starters. And I can't say the Chandlers or the Cortlandts belong in this particular category, since I feel like they were dying on the vine toward the end.

they could bring back the Martins... there are are still many family members still alive but living offscreen

The Cortlands were I'll grant you, but the Chandlers were still key players (no matter how successful you think Scott or Colby were casting wise).

Rob could barely contain his excitement over that video and he was throwing heaps of shade at OLTL. LOL!

I took that as friendly trash talk. Similar to what you'd hear on a basketball court. I get the feeling he's a troublemaker. The fun sexy kind. Rawrr.

Oh dear, I can't believe that I'm sitting here getting lusty over Mrs. Wilson's baby boy.

Also, all you really needed to shore up the Chandlers were Adam and Brooke as key players again, which they are, and viable recasts and repositionings of characters like JR and his son. Which the show has done, and it's a good start.

The Cortlandts have always been much more nebulous, going on ten, fifteen, twenty years. There's been one or two of them at best for that long. What they have is Pete in a central role, along with Opal, and Palmer's legacy apparently front and center. From there you can bring on anyone in the future.

I didn't take offense; I thought it was cute. But I'm not sure I could take offense to anything he does.

What I want to see is a revival of the Brent/Tyler side of things...as well as Edmund's family (though getting Michael Nader back is a pipe dream).

I think so too.. the AMC and OLTL cast follow each other on Twitter, I think both casts have been awfully close

you never know we could get that...

Zach has his wedding ring on  Yes that made me excited lol :P

Overall it all looks great, the outdoor shots are far from Peapack. I love when shows shoot outdoors, I get tired of looking at them inside all the time lol

Continue, because I'm intrigued.

No. I'm not blind or stupid. I pitch ideas, and they get shot down. I haven't thick enough skin anymore.

So if that had been the trailer for a new show that wasn't AMC would you be more invested?

Perhaps. But it has been so, so long since any series, daytime or prime, has piqued my interest significantly. It speaks volumes how I choose to watch reruns of "Murder, She Wrote" and "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" over anything else. #ImOld

I wanna know if that was Francesca James in the locked that Celia dropped. And wtf at the guy in her mirror!

Yes, that was a photo of Francesca James in the locket.

I absolutely LOVED this AMC preview. I swear I literally cried watching it. I cannot wait to see the show and it looks amazing. I am already drawn in from what I have seen so far.

I had to watch it 3 more times. I just love it so much!!!!

AJ and Miranda are one of the most adorable soon-to-be couples ever. Especially Denyse Tontz as Miranda. She reminds me of a straight Bianca.

ITA. I think they're adorable even if she does just consider him a friend for now. I definitely got a young Erica vibe from Miranda here.

Love the David/Cara angst!

Me too!

That looked AMAZING. Can't wait for the premiere. The outdoor shots looked great. I'm actually looking forward to seeing the more youth-oriented storylines. It seems likea great balance.

ICAM!

All I know is that with the inclusion of the old AMC book and the snippet of the gold opening in the recap, they best not be teasing me with an updated book opening only to not come through. I will be so damn pissy, I've wanted that gold opening back ever since they unceremoniously dumped it.

The book literally had me stifling a shriek the first time I saw it!

I thought that was fantastic.

And I'm so tired of any location shoot being equated with Peapack. We've had location shoots for decades. I thought the lighting, etc. on all that material was fantastic, particularly the night work and the car footage from inside and on Pete. It was about a million miles from Peapack, IMO.

David and Cara still look hot. And I think Eric Nelsen is great. God forbid he look like an actual teenager, particularly one who seems sheltered and cossetted by a rich family from a traumatic life. A.J. looks like he's barely seen the sun in ten years, which is appropriate given his history.

I like the fact that the exteriors look like Pine Valley and not Los Angeles. Those park scenes at the end of the network run looked lovely but they sure as hell didn't feel like Pennslyania.

I loved how the exteriors looked like a real small town. As I said previously about one of the other videos, it reminds me of Pine Valley from the 1980s.

"The Celia stuff was strange. The f*ck was that creepy guy in the mirror?! sad.png That had a very gothic feel to it, even the room she was in."

I found that stuff intriguing--but I've always liked when AMC dabbles in the gothic. (OK *mostly*--we won't get started about ghost women and bleeding tattoos.) I wonder if she experienced some traumatic abuse or something and the mirror guy was her abuser (dad?)

I'm thrilled they're doing a Gothic story again! Whoever the guy in the mirror is, he's definitely abusing her.

I would prefer the classic theme updated, but I actually liked the song a lot. So I can handle it.

I feel the same way. At least we get the book!!!!

I haven't been this excited in a very long time. Watching the AMC preview and then watching the AMC cast watching the preview literally has me beaming LOL

I thought ATWT was a nearly-unrecognizable smoking train wreck at the end, but that's me. AMC and OLTL, not so much.

It's not just you, it truly was.

They have the Chandlers, the Kanes, the Cortlandts and the Hubbards, and characters of all generations plus some other popular and new folk. I'm not sure what else they should've had in terms of building blocks.

They've got a great foundation, imo. I can't wait for the 29th to arrive!

You are not old :P

I think you have a lot of wisdom and knowledge when it comes to soaps. What I guess I find frustrating with your reaction is I sorta get the feeling nothing would have pleased you :P

Prospect Park's Rich Frank's Message To Fans

By SOD • Posted: Apr 16, 2013

Prospect Park co-chief Rich Frank tells Digest that a big advertising push will help attract viewers to the relaunches of AMC and OLTL on April 29th ("You'll see ads in print and on television") but hopes that fans will help spread the word, as well. "We would hope that all of them would call their friends to make sure they watch them! The way to ensure that this is going to work, because we're really totally advertiser-supported is, is that we've got to get the eyeballs to be watching this. They've done it before; it's just a matter of rallying the troops and getting them to watch. That's all I could ask them to do at this point. We're going to try to give them the best we've got and if they will support us and tweet and Facebook and use all the social media and everything just to make sure that everybody knows that on the 29th, we're going to be back, that would be great."

I liked the preview. Yeah, Marissa is as dead as a doorknocker! LMAO!

I always wanted/believed/thought that AJ and Miranda would get together. And, now they may. I'm so happy!

I like the changes as well. I truly am hoping the shows don't disappoint. I like the younger cast, they all seem so likeable. This might be the best younger set for the show in probably a decade. Better than Colby and her friends a few years back lol

Yeah I am liking Rob Wilson, he's adorable too
