AMC: The Prospect Park Era (old production thread)

I think the reels have two very different tones - AMC is more sentimental, sweet, homespun, etc; OLTL is more plot-oriented towards its cliffhangers, more edgy. I think this is appropriate in that AMC is picking up five years after its cliffhanger with a relatively new state of affairs building on the past, while OLTL is picking up directly from a very complex, major mystery storyline which was left dangling in the ABC finale - with a largely intact cast, while AMC is building a lot from the ground up. I think both approaches are very right for both shows. The AMC had me bawling, and I keep watching it. The OLTL one is very good, but a lot more snappy and flashy, edgy (they also likely had less footage to work with, obviously, since this had to be getting worked up over the last several weeks and OLTL has been only been in production two or three). And right now I'm more into crying and reliving some great moments, and AMC's reel gives a lot of that. I think it's excellent. I do wish the OLTL one had had a little more of that kind of flourish at the end.

I completely overacted to your entire post. I'm sorry.

It's okay, and thanks for the apology. You just want this show to succeed. So do I! Love your posts.

I enjoy yours too--I over-react when some people post really negative things based on little information--and I'm just as bad--at this point I post only on positive stuff when it comes to the PP shows.

I'M FREAKING OUT!! THOSE NEW CLIPS AT THE END.

Miranda/AJ wub.png

Pete in his convertible, pan to "PINE VALLEY" sign wub.png

Adam/Dixie biggrin.png

Angie/Joe wub.png

Bianca at the grave sad.png actually biggrin.png

That David/Cara scene...I ask again if that's new (it was in the middle of the video)? I don't recall that scene. I am so sad!

DAMN. That was so good. Like I'm crying.

Hmm. What's become of Tad? Dixie was looking at their wedding photo as if he had died.

I just got to the end and I'm crying. I'M DONE! I am gonna die at the OLTL one too.

Bianca visiting the grave means it's definitely Marissa. Expected. sad.png

Pete storming into town in his fancy car, driving past the Pine Valley sign? SO EPIC

I wanna know how they're gonna explain JR killing Marissa, possibly shooting Cara if she lost the baby, possibly Tad and NOT being in jail. If I had to take a guess, I would say perhaps David got a gun and shot him, resulting in David's incarceration and JR's assumed five-year coma. This is gonna be SO [!@#$%^&*] GOOD regardless.

I think Tad left town with Kathy, Jenny.. I don't know

As long as they have actual sets this will never be Peapack.

In fact I thought the PV in those shots looked like the PV from the 80s era AMC I've seen in clips.

I didn't think the location footage looked Peapack at all. It was outside, yes, but it was properly lit and shot - just establishing the small town. It didn't look like a burnt-out husk like Peapack.

I'm going to call it - I think Cara is lying about the kid being dead. Because David Hayward.

What's most heartening about the AMC clip--and the OLTL clip--is that whoever put them together seems to--mostly--GET what fans love and feel connected with about these shows. They aren't just random.

That video was amazing! I'm typing through my tears. I'm so glad the people at PP seem to respect the history of the show and what made it so special.

I also think both Tad and David & Cara's child are alive. My best guess is that Cara gave the child up for adoption rather than let David know he/she lived.

The location footage reminded me of the establishing shots from the 1980s, too.

Why would Cara do that, when she was determined that David would share in their child's life at the end of AMC 1.0? I'm hoping it's David's worst-case nightmare just before being released from prison. His paranoia and insecurities are always with him!

I'm sorry, I'm just being honest, don't think I don't want the show to succeed or won't watch -- but that promo didn't make AMC sound enticing, dramatic, or welcoming It needed some kind of exciting backing music. It felt like a bad trailer with choppily edited clips that you might see for a low-budget indie movie on a cheap DVD.

I think Angie comes off best from it, and Tad who won't even be on the show.

that video was ok, but im not sure what the point in it was. I agree with jfung that it sure is not enticing me to watch, i guess it was sort of like a prelude to the series? The production values on the new clips are great though and look similar to AMC before it left.

I do hope there is something more along the lines of a trailer to entice people to watch though.

I get what you mean. It wasn't really a promo, more like a highlight reel. For long time fans, it delivers a good recap and teases what's to come.

OMG, I just finished watching the clip and I can't believe it made me cry, especially at Angie and Jessie. Brooke!!!!! So glad she'll be there.

I probably shouldn't have watched that video here at work. The smiling and tearing up seems to be concerning my co-workers. unsure.png

I think the point of the promo was part love letter to longtime fans and part teeing up who we should expect to see on the show and giving hints as to where they are now. We got lots of Bianca, the Hubbards, David, etc... and enough of their history to frame the next chapter. Obviously the recast of JR made it necessary to gloss over the character visually but they used David/Dixie/Brooke to help tee up his story.

I loved seeing all those AMC "originals." Myrtle, Palmer, Phoebe, Langley...indelible, irreplaceable characters brought to life by phenomenally talented actors.

I'm trying to go into the show devoid of expectations or wishes but I hope that they will rekindle the Angie/David friendship. There's tons of potential in that relationship.

I'm not even an AMC fan and that video had me tearing up. I love the sense of community it establishes, from Tad's "neighbors-family-friends" voiceover to the exterior shots portraying a small town. I hope the series incorporates that feel.

New Canaan is definitely not Peapack. Get concerned when someone tweets "Oh, goodie! On our way to shoot exteriors in Waterbury #AMC!!" Until then, any town here in Fairfield County, including my own, is pretty well groomed.

I'm assuming David wound up in jail for some reason based on one of the previous photos. Maybe Cara didn't want to raise the child alone or maybe David did something she couldn't forgive. We'll have to wait and see.

ITA. At the very least, I hope David's not written as the super-villain with everyone against him, but more than that, I really liked how Angie was the one person besides Cara who saw his good side and I hope that continues.
