HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

Has anyone wondered if these reboots will exist in the same continuity as GH? GH has a lock on Todd, Starr and John but they've been writing about other OLTL characters like Clint and Natalie even though they havent appeared. There is an ongoing background story with Blair, Tea and Tomas, that presumably would be picked up sometime eventually. Will these reboots be bound by what GH was doing or will it be almost like a Dallas/Knots Landing situation where the shows unnofiially seperate and no longer exist in the same universe. Basically will OLTL ignore what RC has written in the past year and start up a year later, picking up from the finale?

Yeah, many of us are wondering about this. I guess we just don't know at this point. For one, I'm glad that RC has kept his hands off of characters like Viki and Dorian, while I also think that the situation with Clint and Natalie re: John for example can be rather easily addressed.

Of course they may not even have to immediately address some of the GH developments depending on who signs on or not (or if they'll bother to recast). What I wonder is if things will get cold and strict in terms of what new developments RC will be able to establish for OLTL characters off his GH canvas. Like, if he'll be able to continue with the cutesy wink wink throwaway lines about unseen Llanview citizens that don't jive with what we're seeing on On Line to Live. I'm not a fan of the idea of the shows making an unofficial official split and existing in separate universes.

Plus, if they want to pick up with the Victor Jr. s/l, they are going to want Todd and Starr back which seems complicated to me. Todd and Starr can't juggle that s/l and GH at the same time and I don't think FV/RC want to lose them. At ALL.

So will ratings be replaced with site hits (i.e., ad dollars) in this new scenario? Theoretically, could PP do these shows indefinitely as long as the money is there and ABC continues to renew their licensing?

ABC's initial agreement with PP was for 10 years, with the first year including an out if they didn't produce a thing. I'd imagine the deal is still the same since PP got off their ass knowing they'd lose out if they didn't get things together this time.

Also, while I don't know names yet. Apparently there is a bible in place hence why certain actors are being signed on. Agnes has been involved as we know, and she has some WGA (not fi-core) writers working with her according to my understanding, which is why this WGA deal had to be done ASAP. Without a WGA deal, all writing work would have to have been re-done and things would have been pushed back, again.

I'm sort of in between with my opinion. I hope it will happen and not suck. Until they are in production and have a web portal in place that works, I'm just waiting and hoping.

Awww I feel the love, people can't stand that some of us aren't bowing and scraping and eagerly antipcating the NuAMC lol

But if we got word tomorrow that Alicia and Thorsten were signed up for it, you'd become PP's biggest cheerleader, no?

I also don't see how Jordi signing is going to cause people not to watch. LOL.

One person doesn't make or break a show for me.

I think you can count on Lisa Conner as a writer for one of the shows; she's well liked and made the rounds three of the four soaps on air and was with AMC at the end and worked on OLTL as well.

Don't be surprised to see Dave Kriezman on board; he's young, has been repeatedly hired and worked for a year on AMC.

Marla Kanelos is another who's worked for ABC for years and has a long history with Agnes.

I think assembling an AMC writing team, and they will be small, will be easy. But it will be interesting to see who is chosen for OLTL.

Here's what I think on AMC

Jeff Beldner Headwriter

Marla Kanelos

Dave Kreizman

Rebecca Taylor

Joanna Cohen

Wild Guess for OLTL

Addie Walsh

Stephen Demorest

Trent Jones

Daniel O'Conner

Crystal Chappel

Can we please stop the passive aggressive, mean girl, real fan bullshit? I don't judge anybody's reasons for watching or not even if I don't agree with those reasons. If someone says that they quit watching a show because they didn't like the wallpaper on a certain set then that is their right.

If it's okay to criticize someone's reason for not watching then do I get to criticize people for continuing to watch what I feel to be an inferior product? If it's okay to say a real fan wouldn't quit over one person then do I get to call out the people who claim to care about how women and minorities are portrayed on these shows yet fight over which woman gets the rapist even as they ignore the blinding whiteness of these shows? Do I get to tell people that by watching a show that makes a joke of mental illness and rape they are actively endorsing those beliefs? Should they be forced to submit to my judgment in some arbitrary purity test?

The viewer is the customer and it's up to these shows to attract viewers not the viewers to prove themselves to the shows so how about folks stop trying to bully people into watching.

At this point things seem to be coming together but with what happened last time I do not fault anyone for being skeptical about this. But if this all falls apart again that Foz guy is going to have to shut down his twitter lol.
