Girl Meets World - (Boy meets World spinoff)

  • Member

We've seen the highs and lows of Cory Matthews and his lifelong sweetheart Topanga. But what about their daughter?

TVLine reports that the Disney Channel is currently circling the prospect of a Boy Meets World sequel series called Girl Meets World. Not only that, but insiders say the cable network is looking to cast original series stars Ben Savage (Cory) and Danielle Fishel (Topanga); their two characters were married before the popular sitcom ended in 2000. The new series would focus their pre-teen daughter.

Since the end of Boy's seventh and final season, Savage has made numerous guest appearances on other TV shows like Chuck, Bones and Without a Trace. Meanwhile, Fishel's post-Boy work includes National Lampoon's Dorm Daze and hosting duties on Style Network's The Dish.

What do you think? Would you like to see a follow-up to ABC's staple coming-of-age series? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

It took me awhile to get into BMW, I probably started watching it in the 3rd or 4th seasons.

After saying that, I'm not feeling this spinoff. I have issues with the spinoff.

It's not that bad and he plays no favoritisms. I think having a parent for a teacher would be horrible but he makes it work.

I've worked with teachers who had to teach their own kids (middle school and high school settings), and it's really not that big of a deal. IIRC, the kids did call them "Mom" in class.

I just watched the first two episodes and I enjoyed it. They could of dialed down "this is my world" stuff in the first episode. This is definitely better than most of the Disney shows on the network over the past ten or so years. Sabrina Carpenter who plays Maya is the shinning star for me of the younger kids.

Maya is great. I like her more than I like Riley. I think Riley will grow on me, but her actress' portrayal is less natural than is Maya's.

So far I like the show, though. I still wish it weren't a Disney Channel show, but so far it's pretty good.

Someone posted an interview that reminds us that Boy Meets World ended with them as 19-year-olds, but this show is starting as Boy Meets World did with pre-teens. So I'm trying to keep that in mind and think it is worth giving them time to grow.

I admit, I was confused and surprised about all the love for BMW. I think maybe I was a few years too old for it (I assume the uber fans here are younger than me...) That said, many seem to forget that the first two or so seasons were WAY lighter and more silly than the later ones. ie the best friend character (yes, this is how little I remember the show) acted out by joining the "rough" kids and doing things like flooding the school--not becoming an alcoholic or whatever he did later on.
