Wow. I just googles JER and he was born in Bountiful, Utah! I swear I read somewhere that he was a New Englander. Oh well, my bad. Maybe that's just me projecting. I lived in Massachusetts as a kid, and when I watched Days at the time, it really had a gothicky New England feel to it.

In Days, Salem is definitely in the Midwest, somewhere in the vicinity of one of the Great Lakes. Illinois, with the Chicago references, seems to be the more accepted location today and has been since the 90s. In the 80s, a lot of the references made it seem like Salem was probably in Ohio. (Bo wore a Bengals shirt; Kayla worked in Cleveland, which wasn't that far away; they were only a few hours drive to West Virginia; etc.)

I thought it was in Illiniois. Maybe because there is an actual Salem, Ill. Although this seems to be an occurence that happened in the 90's because they were more vague about the location before that.

On Capitol, most of the characters lived in a fictional suburb of D.C. called Jeffersonia. I don't think Virginia was ever *specifically* mentioned though it was obvious that that's what they were going for.

Jeffersonia was a fictitious Arlington, VA.

I always thought DAYS was New England-based, what with the very Irish Bradys around.

Also, I'm thinking Secret Storm's Woodbridge was supposed to be in upstate New York (near LOL's original setting of Barrowsville).

Yeah I've always had the impression Days was in Salem, Mass

The Bradys didn't come into the picture until the 80s, the Hortons are the ones that have been around since the beginning. DAYS has always had a mid-western feel to it IMO.

I thought Reilly was from the Midwest? I think Utah.

LOL, since when is Utah in the Midwest? Think Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas- those are the main states considered to be part of the "Midwest."

Did 'Loving' ever say what state Corinth was in? I'm not sure they ever did, though it's widely assumed to be in New York since that's where 'The City' was located.

Did 'Guiding Light' ever say where Springfield was supposed to be located? It can't be Illinois because Springfield is the capital of Illinois, no??

Pine Valley- do we know what state that's in?

Here's a list of the ones I think we DO know for sure:

AW- Bay City, Illinois

B&B- Los Angeles, CA

GH- Port Charles, NY

OLTL- Llanview, PA

PC- Port Charles, NY

SB- Santa Barbara, CA

SUN- Sunset Beach, CA

Y&R- Genoa City, WI

I know it's assumed that Oakdale is in Illinois because it's supposedly not far from Bay City and Chicago, but was it ever officially stated? Again, I'm not sure.

Corinth and Pine Valley are both in Pennsylvania (suburban Philadelphia), neighboring towns of Llanview.

I believe Bay City was presumed to be in Michigan for much of AW's run. I seem to remember reading posts about the show using maps of Michigan. I guess it was in the late '70s or early '80s (?) that the show firmly established its suburban Chicago, Illinois setting.

For many years, Guiding Light's Springfield was a different Springfield than in Illinois, but some time after 2000 they decided it was in Illinois, which annoyed a lot of people (myself included).

I distinctly remember Another World being set in Michigan in the early 1980s. It wasn't until the mid-1980s that the location was changed to Illinois.

Pine Valley, Llanview, and Corinth were definitely in Pennsylvania. During AMC's last tornado storyline, they showed a map of the area and Pine Valley was west of Philadelphia. In fact, it was in the vicinity of Rosemont College, where I went to graduate school. Agnes Nixon lives in Rosemont, PA.

Pine Valley is supposed to take the place of Bryn Mawr, PA. Right next to Rosemont. In an episode in the mid-90s, Brian said to a limo driver to take him and Haley back home to 19010 which is Bryn Mawr's zip.

Corinth is in PA right near Pine Valley and Llanview.

Llanview is actually supposed to be where Conshohocken is located so its a little off the main line, but still NW of Philly. Although, I could see Llanview taking the place of Vilanova.

I always thought Bay City was in Michigan. I think GL's Springfield really should have been in Indiana. Not that far from Chicago and not in Illinois, but close enough.

Oakdale was always on the outskirts of Chicago.

And wasn't Our Private World set in Chicago, specifically?

Right, but wasn't it established that the Bradys were long-time Salem residents that we just never met until the 80s? Or maybe I have that wrong.

JER's DAYS always always always seemed New England to me, especially when paired with Passions.

I think in DAYS' very first episode in 1965, they strongly imply that it was supposed to be on the east coast. I think Marie or her beau reference driving to nearby Boston or something of that effect. Can't remember the exact wording, but they very much implied it was a New England town. But more recently since at least the 90's it's been referenced as being close to Chicago, even though mountains and oceans are also close by. That's the beauty of not ever solidifying where it takes place.
