Y&R: Another Casting Call

I'm not talking about that, you said Davetta didn't want to be there. I remember the only person that took up for Davetta treatment was BJ. While KSJ wasn't saying anything until a lot of viewers was getting on CK big mouth. Then he try to contact Davetta again. I'm sure Davetta didn't trust him after that. That's why I will always respect BJ because he became the real mini Dru after Davetta left.

That's true, DeeeDee. And it is unfortunate how DS was treated by many of her co-workers, too. As I've said, though, I'm not one who was so mightily impressed with her stint. She was (and is) better than CK, but (IMO) that is really, really, REALLY not saying much.

On the subject of Victoria begging for her job back, I've never seen that as the case. Her first two books were actual successes and she toured those books for a LONG time. You wouldn't tour as long as she did if people weren't interested. She was appearing on The View and Wendy Williams as well to promote. Then she got married and has been travelling endlessly. She didn't start actively pursuing acting jobs until this year and since she started she's had huge success. Movies, guest starring roles on Lets Get Together, plus a recurring role on Single Ladies. She also recently had a second callback for a role in the Hunger Games sequel. She's hardly sitting at home and waiting for Y&R to come calling. I think she would return to Y&R if it worked out, but if it doesn't she doesn't care. She's not a soap star who depends on soaps, she can easily have a primetime/film career. She left that behind FOR Y&R.

Right now she's getting back into the swing of things, but I say give it another year and she's going to land a major role whether it be on primetime or film.

That's something Alden never gets credit for.

Fans these days constantly complain about how Y&R's cast is "too big" & actors should be fired but Alden utilized EVERYBODY.

As with any other headwriter she had her favorites but the last time the show had any real balance was during her stint.

    • IF this gets a renewal I can't see LY sticking around
    • Well, I'm glad to know Devane and I are on the same wavelength, lol.  But seriously.  I don't believe there's any other word to describe the machinations that the producers constructed in the name of keeping Greg and Paige apart.  Greg and Paige made Sam and Diane look mature by comparison! Which would have been just as well, since a character like Greg Sumner didn't really belong in the '90's, as the storyline with the task force proved only too well.  If KL had returned for another season, it would've needed a MASSIVE overhaul, including ditching Greg, Paige, Claudia and Anne.  Mack and Karen would've needed to be there for the sake of continuity; and maybe some mileage could've been gained from exploring Gary's new life as a widowed single father.  (I still would've loved to bring back Julie Harris and have Lilimae help Gary take care of the twins).  Otherwise, it would've been a new era for KL, one without The Sumner Group, or stories like Wolfbridge and Empire Valley.

    • Didn't she know when she involved him in her scheme, before the character was introduced? I thought she tracked down Janice's son and poisoned his mind against Rachel in order to get him on board.  It's a bit confusing because in the summer of 1988 we get a lot of Drew Marsten (whom I had forgotten was Nicole's ex) and mentions of a mysterious Countess and also Reginald working to undermine Cory. Drew disappears around the same time Evan arrives, and gradually we get the reveals that he is in cahoots with Iris, Janice's son, etc.
    • I apply totally different standards. For Felicia & anyone else in Bay City it's reel as opposed to out here in the universe where it's real.
    • And that is why western civilization is screwed up with organized religion. but thats for another board.

    • Seeing T.R. give Danny a massage made me wonder if Jane Krakowski was considered for One Life to Live's Tina recast in 1990. At that point, Jane was in Broadway's Grand Hotel and probably not interested in coming back to daytime (plus, at 21, she would have been rather young for the role), but it still felt like a what could have been moment.
