Members Susan Hunter
Roger Howarth could have played a returned from the dead AJ. There are a million ways to explain how he didn't die. (A natural antagonist for Sonny) Michael Easton could have played Jagger Cates (A natural antagonist for Sonny and Jason) Florencia Lazano could have been a new character. Kristen Alderson could have found work in retail.
Members Cheap21
Not really. John's story ended on OLTL. He found out Liam was his and he reunited with Natalie. His story on GH is something completely new and was not a continuation of buildup from OLTL. Starr's story was also completed on OLTL with her reuniting with Cole and him being in hiding. She also had future prospects of pursuing a music career in CA. Her first episode on GH did away with all that and launched her into something completely new. The only transplants with unfinished story were Blair, Todd and Tea. RC's effectively ended Todd's unifinished business by having him found not guilty of the murder and we know where Blair stands. So its only Tea who's left incomplete. Instead of reuinting her with her husband and closing that chapter, he killed her baby and launched her into a new storyline
Members frequentsoapfan
Or even better none of them could've come on because none of them are needed!
Members MissLlanviewPA
I forgot to mention John. Yes, his story was pretty much over on OLTL, too. I kind of put Tea in with the Mannings--maybe I should have considered breaking off her, Victor, and Dani into the Lords, I don't know. I do think she should have known by now that Victor was alive, though. Although probably for different reasons than why you would want her to know it (my T&B fandom and all ). Members DRW50
I just wish Blair could get a show and storyline of her own. I'd even take a 3 minute a week websoap filmed in the parking lot. As someone who never cared about Todd/Blair, there isn't a lot to appreciate now.
Members marceline
They don't care. All they care about is vindicating OLTL and I think THAT's the source of the hostility and rightly so. It's very obvious that Ron isn't trying to save GH. He doesn't care about GH. He's the nerd who's come to the 20 year high school reunion with an agenda to prove to everyone they were wrong about him except for Ron, high school was last year and RH is the escort he's hired to be his date, FL is the Rolex he's wearing and KA is the Mazerati he pulled into the parking lot. Everything he's doing is about OLTL and the viewers can tell. It's not really all that different from when Pratt took over AMC and basically said he didn't give a damn about character histories. Viewers can tell when the person writing doesn't care about the show. As much as I don't want the AMCers involved in this, at least if he'd brought on one or two, short-term or recurring, Ron could claim he was trying to give fans from all of ABCD's shows a little something to hold on to. He could pretend that he was genuinely trying to get fans from other shows to give GH a shot. It would still suck for the GH fans but it would at least have the veneer of "We're all in this together. This is our last shot." Plus since Anna has genuine ties to AMC (including her first dead daughter) it would be somewhat organic. But Ron and Frank aren't trying to save GH and they aren't trying to do something good for the genre. They're just collecting a paycheck, recycling trash and indulging themselves in the fantasy that somehow their show isn't as dead as AMC, ATWT, GL and Passions. Members MissLlanviewPA
I would love that too (and I would start up that 3 minute a week websoap filmed in the parking lot just for you, Carl! ), as Blair had been a crafty businesswoman in her day, but of course, God forbid that a woman on an ABC soap is allowed something like that (not that CBS and NBC are off the hook, but ABC seems to be the worst, from what I understand). This is initially the kind of thing I truly felt they wanted to do the most--keep daytime alive by bringing in characters with other preestablished roots and fanbases. It could still work, and there ARE plenty of fans who watched all three soaps or are at least somewhat familiar with some of the characters, but obviously, it really hasn't turned out that way. Members marceline
As for KA, I don't think she's much worse that a lot of soap actors her age. Given the state of the genre, there's no time for rehearsal and no money for coaches so it's harder for young actors to develop their skills. Honestly, which younger actors out there don't screech, mumble or overact anymore? Plus, more and more it seems that viewers are willing to accept screaming and scenery-chewing as being committed to the scene.
Members DRW50
Not even OLTL, as much as their pet agendas. All they have done is shown non-OLTL viewers why they got the show canceled in the first place.
Members JaneAusten
I think this is evident and has been for several years maybe even more. It's funny how some equate good acting to screeching and tears and arm flapping. It's also kind of interesting how folks say FV likes FL and now the actress who plays Kate because they have theatre backgrounds and the skills they learn there are brought to the screen and to their characters and for me I don't see it. It's funny because when I think traditionally trained theatre actors I think of someone like James Mitchell or Ruth Warrick or Constance Towers who all created complex memorable perhaps a tad offbeat characters without hysterics and endless crying. Members frequentsoapfan
She can get coaching outside of the show like a ton of other younger actors in the industry. I don't like scene chewing screeching, tears, ott facial gestures or whining nor do I think it's good acting.
Members Cheap21
People praise FL for acting skills but I don't see many doing the same for KS. Actually quite the opposite as she tends to get slammed
Members marceline
They had the luxury of lots of rehearsal time, repeated takes and writers who took a longer view to storytelling. I'm not trying to make excuses for KA or anyone else, I'm just saying that it's all connected. The economics, the bad storytelling, the lack of training or skill development, bad/no direction, low production values, etc... it all adds up to part of the reason soaps lost audience. The quality isn't there anymore. Volume passes for drama. Camp passes for humor. Ignoring what you wrote last month or last year equals "soapiness." KA is a perfect product and representative of her business.

Members OldGHFan
Love this post. In the end, I just want GH to be about GH - not OLTL. In the end, if OLTL ended up being about Sonny & Jason instead of Viki & Clint or if AMC ended up being about Luke & Laura instead of Erica Kane, fans would be pissed. There is only so much time left for GH and I want it to be about GH!! Is this too much to ask? Apparently so.
