I hope for good things for DAYS when the writing is good. Unfortunately, it hasn't been. Every single aspect of the show is boring right now... and did they ever chew through that safe house storyline quickly.

I'm predicting no change in households for DAYS and a slight drop in total viewers.

What these shows need to do is stop using the same stories and tales. Let go of the 70's and 80's, we live in a new era, try to keep up with the times or they will all be gone in 2-3 years.

People are sick of who's your daddy, back from the dead, long lost child, etc.

It's too late for these shows. Nothing short of a serious commitment at the management level will save any of them and even that would be iffy. People who used to watch soaps moved on (in some cases, to the hereafter) and nothing will bring them back. I'll always wonder how a new soap might've performed.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out people are sick and tired of Sonny, Carly, Jason and Sam. How many years have people been saying this? At least a decade. And yet TPTB expect a different result with the main focus on the same dam# people.

Thank you yes I agree the attrition of soaps are due to several factors including a serious loss of their African American viewers but these shows have never tried to "reinvent" the genre for today's audience IMO a lot has to do with that to get "new viewers"

Writing is largely to blame they steadfastly refuse to step outside the lines these shows could have been revived in some way but they kept the same stale personnel who rotated from show to show nothing new nothing fresh! Soaps needed to at least try a fresh approach they never would same ole' Who's the daddy, triangle after triangle misogony....same stale leads that hijack the show & hold viewers hostage

Now we have Cartini are they doing anything different really?

No. Its the Sonny / Jason /Carly/Sam show who has tanked the show for years but now the OLTL characters & vets like Heather Webber will make them more interesting but they are still eating the show alive.

I don't know if I necessarily agree about soaps being "stuck in the past" as a reason for what killed them. I think more or less it simply comes down to the networks went in another direction which killed them. It's the idea that the networks in general just wanted cheaper productions and material that better sourced their affiliates with talk/reality/sitcom tie ins. All of the above is probably less costly then a soap is. Soaps in general probably don't do much for local programming and Daytime is never going to bring in as much viewership or dollar amounts as Primetime. I actually think there were soap writers who did try to bring soaps into the now and we saw that with Cartini, Pratt, Highley, McTavish and Sheffer, all of them tried to be edgy in their own way and think outside of the box and all were criticized for their attempts to bring contemporary primetime to daytime.

While I think GH is stuck in a rut due to featuring the same characters over many years, but I don't think that is what destroyed the genre. They alienated their core with the over reliance on certain characters. Now if they switched gears, who would be left watching, how would they get the older viewers back (which they don't watch because they are older...) They would have to find new viewers and that seems improbable.

Back in the day, soaps brought in more money compared to how much they cost and helped keep the networks out of the red. The networks could try and fail with prime time series, as they were getting that much money from their daytime shows. I feel this is what destroyed everything as the margin stopped being good enough. So the shows got desperate and did insane things and it snowball even further.

In the loving arms of his wife, Dr. Marlena Evans, John took his last breath at the end of the June 2 episode, after suffering devastating internal injuries during a lab explosion. The iconic character went out as he lived — a hero. Sensing the fans’ devastation on Monday, Marlena’s portrayer Deidre Hall posted this simple-but-powerful message to fans on Instagram: “I know. I know. Hardest day ever.”

    • Now coming into June...well...   I knew it was coming but I didn't like the start to the next round of Dani/Bill/Hayley. As the 3 A plots from the start of the show (The SilkPress storyline and Martin's Secret being the other two), it needed to be benched for a while to develop those characters and allow other characters and storylines to grow. 3 months in, Hayley is the weak link, Dani is still divisive, but not boring, and Bill has been making his mark with some plots faster than others. So last week seeing the story starting to loop back around to them with Hayley's potential pregnancy, I honestly had mixed feelings.   I get it. The SilkPress storyline is currently in aftermath/next turn mode, so it has to be moved into a C plot position. Moreso if we want to keep the very talented Miss Trish around. And I love how clever the writers are being with the storyline. They give us enough in the episodes and are still playing out beats to keep the appetite fed. I don't feel like anyone is being dumbed down to keep her around. And Trish is giving nuances in her alone scenes with NuTed. I shouldn't care for a clear psycho, but she be selling it. That said...I wish they had given us a little more of the Martin's Secret storyline in the last week of the month though I loved the game of cat and mouse Bill did on Martin and Smitty to keep the storyline alive and active after it had a nice build beginning of May and vanished for a week mid-May. And it appears like it's about to go back to the backburner as an A plot which of course leaves the A plot of Dani/Bill/Hayley.   I am probably in the minority as someone who is not anti-Dani here and even she annoyed the heck out of me last week. In character true, but I just felt like there was a way to get all of that across without it feeling like...as I've said before...one step forward, two steps back...and have it feel organic. I liked Hayley got a little bit of edge with her, but she still ain't no match for Dani. And it reminds to be seen if we should be going back to that well of a story yet.   Now about today's show...   And I thought Tracy was bad! lol. But YES. Sharon has been worth the wait. And so has Anita's story! Finally having TT in the limelight. This has been a nice slow burn for me and a nice B plot. And the actress is good. The wig is giving. And her holding what Anita's secret is over her head and threatening to tell Vernon....Ooooo...that is what I was waiting for.    And speaking of bad...I thought Eva vs Kat was a great rivalry. But I am loving the rivalry that is growing with 'Nancy Drew' and Silk Press Sheila! They both get good licks in and are so cunning with each other. And I definitely have liked that since the anniversary party, that it has been growing. Now that Kat has been proven right, she has not backed down. And neither has SilkPress. And we got a 'Ms. B@tch' moment, too? LOVE. Eva coming up with a trump card was delicious and so 90s Sami Brady. GOOD. And the coda with Jacob and the expert...YES. The Silk Press storyline has been the best paced on the show so I love that the aftermath of the anniversary party continues to be so...barring one flaw...well for me. Not enough Nicole's POV.   And I like the C plots on display. And by that, I mean Chelsea with Vernon. And it made me wonder what the writers have plan for her love life now that the throuple is over with. I was watching her and going awww.   And of course the mystery man around Martin. I am starting to wonder if he really even works at the country club given how he made a run for it. That would be a twist.    Speaking of Martin...good to see him in scenes with his father and mother.    I'm getting used to NuTed.    I felt the last episode of May was a bit of a letdown, but this was a very nice recovery.
    • Unless they cut him, I'd think he would stay. Surely, he didn't choose to return because he expected high quality. I figure he gets to work when he wants and spend a lot of time doing his own thing and being with his family.
    • The writing for Liz and Lucky is indeed terrible, but if JJ signed a one-year contract he may be gone in a couple of months anyway. Perhaps they’re just cutting their losses.
    • That would be his older sister Stacey. She was the center of a big story back in the day. Nola was out to snag medical student Kelly Nelson, who she thought would provide her with the life she craved. He was in love with a girl named Morgan. Nola plotted to get pregnant by him, but couldn't manage to get him in bed. So she seduced Floyd, who thought she was in love with him. When she knew she was pregnant, she got Kelly drunk and made sure he woke up next to her in bed. Kelly believed her when she told him he made her pregnant. They were about to elope to Las Vegas, but her mother ratted her out and Kelly abandoned her. She almost married Floyd, but jilted him at the altar. She went to work for Quint. When the baby came prematurely, Kelly saved both of them. She named the baby Kelly Louise to irk Morgan, who was now married to Kelly. When she fell in love with Quint, she had a change of heart over all the trouble she had caused, so she changed the baby's name to Anastasia Louise, shortened to Stacey. Quint was a devoted stepfather and Henry treated her like his own granddaughter.  After Quint and Nola leave SF, I believe Stacey is never seen again. Which is odd, you would think they would have brought her back with Nola and J, but they never did.
