Jill had a huge hand when it came to directing, and that's been evident at every soap she's producer. All one had to do is look at the difference in directing technique on GH post-Jill.

She has her faults, but her eye for the aesthetics was never one of them. I'd gladly take her production sense over Valentini's any day of the week.

I'm going to give Kelly Sullivan the benefit of the doubt here. I don't care for her Kate but I don't think she's a horrible actress. I think she's a mediocre actress getting poor direction and I blame that on Valentini. There are too many similarities to some of the performances on GH to OLTL where some of this cartoonish performing worked in some cases.

You're right - I just think of before our saviors arrived, when people were still panning her work.

Now people seem to enjoy her, because hey, nothing is funnier than a child killer. Talk about lowest common denominator from FV/RC. I never imagined we would be expected to spend day after day guffawing over the comedy of a dead child.

True, Sullivan should be directed to modify her performances and maybe take it down a few notches because it's incredibly cartoonish... but she should be aware, by this point, that this is television -- not theater -- where subtlety reigns. She's not been subtle AT ALL during this storyline. I just think it's a case of they gave this chick too much, too soon. She wasn't even that good at portraying Kate Howard, but now they want her to portray both Kate AND Connie inhabiting the same body as they switch back and forth? She's clearly just NOT that good of an actress. She's too busy mugging for the camera and having epileptic seizures to indicate "Uh oh... Connie's coming!"

    • Roger's return storyline may have been silly but Roger's return was what lead to GL's last golden era.  It was the combination of Roger's return and Robert Calhoun becoming EP that got GL to finally hit it's stride after some really bad years. It will always disappoint me that the ratings during Robert Calhoun's run didn't reflect the quality of the show.
    • He also gave some of the best episodes, like the episodes surrounding Doug's death. The problem with Days was that Ron had a horrible vision from he top. I don't feel the same for MVJ and nothing that has happened in all these months suggests she doesn't have a handle on the show. Now if it becomes an issue I'll acknowledge it, but I'm not seeing it so far.
    • Jean Hackney was awful and that lead to Ben's exit story which sucked. I liked Ben/Val together. Val's love for Ben was that of a grown woman moving on with her life and Ben's love for Val made him willingly decide to raise another man's children as his own.
    • It wasn't just a GL thing, it was an 80s thing. Opulent party scenes on soaps were very big back then. Even in regular episodes where people are just going to dinner they're dressed up like they're going to see royalty.
    • Just started the May 27 episode and first thing I see is that Willow got an ugly haircut since hte last time i watched   I dont have the context for how everthing went down but I know its all Lulu's fault which make her a bish for what she did to Gio
    • I'm pretty sure he was. But point taken. GL really had a thing for masked and costumed balls/parties in the '80's. Everyone looks fabulous, but those poor costume designers.
    • Still here ^^ Come on Prime Video, it's due to bring it back!
    • Got through the eighth season, and it was... painful.

    • I agree 100% with both you and Mitch64.  Soaps have been going further and further off-course since 1981. TPTB just don't have a fundamental understanding of what makes soap fans so loyal. I'd love to be on a writing team with both of you.  Maybe we could put together a real soap opera, and show people what its all about...
    • They weren't in town, but Fletcher worked at the paper (and we saw anniversary Journal headlines for the 50th, although I don't remember if Roger was one of them), and I'd think Alex would have at least heard of him due to the damage he did to Spaulding only a few years before her return to the fold. I know I have to remember it's not real life, of course.
