Rita was my favorite so keep hoping she'll show up on these episode. The Alan/Hope wedding was my choice for the first DVD but two pop songs bumped it. We may be able to use it later or stream it but the songs will have to be cut. If this had been an Alan disc instead of Phillip, Jennifer's confession was at the top of my list.

Rita is on the other 1977 episode. There are a couple from 1976 I haven't screened yet. Hope she can be featured because she was my personal favorite character and hasn't made it at all yet.

bl, the mid 90s seem to be in deep storage as I've tried and failed to locate some of those including a wedding I had wanted to include on the first disc. Eventually it will all get encoded and made available.

I am starting to get really mad at all these pop songs! Its so unfortunate Alan and Hope's wedding can't be included as well as everything else being blocked to them, but I know it can't be helped.

Hopefully more of the 70s episodes are in good enough condition to be used.

Also, thanks for sharing with us what was close to being included. I love knowing so I am not left wondering.

I was just spitballing, no worries Roger. A lot of what I mentioned in the 90s especially I already have on VHS. I'd just like clear copies eventually, and I was trying to come up with a theme that is accessible even to viewers who are newer to GL.

I'd like a Bauer BBQ set, (actually I'd love if we'd get the whole 1987 week though I doubt that many people would be interested.)

A lot of what silas mentioned I do like. It was posted that we are going to get a Christmas disk for GL. I'm hoping there is one Bert episode…The Roger disk I'd like, but how much is available as some is pre-Oct 79. From what little I've seen of Lenore Kasdorf, I do like her, so no qualms on that. I've also wanted a trials & tribulations set, which pretty much sounds like what silas calls the murder & courtroom confessions. The Nola/Floyd non-wedding is on the Morgan/Kelly wedding episode, so it has been released.

The idea of first episodes depending on content could be a good or a bad one. Some actors had awful first shows or they were barely in them. I liked the idea of Emmy winning moments, where episodes that actors used to get Emmys would be featured. The one episode on the Reva disk (aftermath of Slut of Springfield was on both Larry Gates and Kim Zimmer's reels when they won.)

We got to see one of the masked ball episodes as a freebie…

The blackout disk I would love, but who knows how many people would be interested.

Actually, The Nola & Floyd Non Wedding Episode I'm Referring To, aired the Day before Kelly & Morgans Wedding.

Nola looks like she is in Pure Agony having to Marry Poor Floyd. I believe Pictures are took of The Happy Couple & Nola

looks miserable in them, I remember My Mom laughing so hard over Miserable Nola, who she never liked Because Nola Tired

to Break up Kelly & Morgan. Lisa Brown Was awesome as Nola.

I can speak a little about these "newer fans." I'm 25 and wasn't even born during the glory days of the Bauers, the Four Musketeers etc. I was an ABC fan from the time I could talk, but I picked up GL sometime in 1998 during a snow day when to my surprise I discovered there was a 10am soap and ATWT right before Hogan Sheffer took over when I tuned out of OLTL during a bad period. I'm happy to watch older shows with classic characters (like Phillip), but I couldn't get through Quint and Nola's wedding or some of the really old stuff on the 4-DVD set because I had no idea who anyone was and the episodes made little sense out of context. I bought the Carly/Jack ATWT set immediately because while I didn't love this couple, I knew I would recognize everyone, which made it more fun to watch. I realize the older fans want as old school as possible, but I appreciate that soapclassics realizes that some fans that started later want to see more recent stuff. While I fully admit that Ellen Wheeler GL and the last few years of ATWT were horrible, I loved late 90s GL (Manny, Beth/Phillip/Harley and little Lizzie, early Richard and Cassie before San Cris ate the show, ANNIE DUTTON!!) and Hogan's early years on ATWT were brilliant- I remember taping everday and running home from school to watch. While I certainly enjoy an old school Phillip or Reva episode, I want some DVDs of my favorites too- I wouldn't buy a DVD of entirely 80s stuff because its just not the show I remember (even if it maybe was a better show then). Here's to hoping Soapclassics keeps the releases coming so fans of all generations can relive their favorites.

I can see your point. When I watched the older episodes for the first time, I sort of saw them as an adventure (and given GL's massive cast turnover it IS an adventure), but when people are paying money I can see why they would not want to watch anything they don't already know.

While I see the point being made, I think I probably would be equally as excited to be able to discover new stuff... Sometimes I think it's best to pay money for something I've never seen before (all new stuff) instead of episodes I've already seen. But, then again, rewatching some of my fave eras does have a certain appeal to it...

I would have no problem with episodes from the time frame you mentioned greens_dupres. :) I do appreciate hearing another side.

I only picked up GL in 1992, so a lot of the 1980s material I've only heard about. I made friends with people who watched forever, which gave me insight. Some of the older episodes are confusing if you are only working from a paragraph description. The Dobson and Marland versions of the show are very different, and some of the older episodes I like more than others.

The reason I want to see 1979 is due to the actors who I watched years later. I'll sit through a lot of people I don't recognize just to see Roger, Holly and/or Ross. And I have, and started liking people I've only seen in old archives like Rita (who has been mentioned earlier in this thread.) So wanting to see people you already know makes sense, but it can be fun to discover new things you may like.

When I buy a compilation I don't expect to like everything, and in the 20 disk sets I didn't like all of them. That said I would rather take the chance with watching an old episode I never saw before, than watch one I've seen that I didn't really care for on the first go round.

I think dvds featuring a mix of recent and classic episodes is the best compromise... that way, both parties are satisfied.. imho.

One of my friends hadnt started watching GL until about 2001 or 2002 and he admitted to not knowing any of the characters in the earlier set though he happened to fall in love with them (his fave characters were Nola and Quint). He also loved the Roger/Holly/Ed stuff in Santa Domingo especially how realistic it was.

I'm thinking that it's smart to have Reva/Phillip sets since they were around for so many years so they could put classic and more recent episodes as well... I'd love if they did a Roger/Holly retrospective (since they had some great episodes i.e. Rogers unmasking, acapulco episodes, the cliff house episodes, the Daniel St. John/Holly near wedding episodes... even her Nursey Rhyme stalker episodes were interesting..)

Though I'd love to see a Rita episode (even if she isnt the main focus... I wonder if the Alan/Rita affair has music issues as well?). I mean they have two or three episodes with her sister Evie (who I didnt know had short black hair.. I always figured she had long blonde hair) so I'm sure there has to be some episodes where Rita is featured.

See, as a big PGP soap fan, I don't mind watching episodes I haven't seen, because I want to see more of the show. If they only released stuff I'd already seen I probably wouldn't buy the DVD, since I've seen it. I want new stuff, especially when it comes to streaming it. And this is coming from someone who started watching in 2001! For the most part I'm only watching the stuff I've never seen. I guess everyone is different.

I remember viewing some scenes of Hope and Alan on the island on YouTube, and wishing to the soap gods that there was a better quality for it. The score and script seemed so rich. Those scenes and the trial where Jennifer admits she is Amanda's mom would make a excellent addition to a dvd collection of GL.

    • That’s one of the things I’ve liked since the new writers came in; more interactions between characters that they hadn’t really had scenes with
    • Such a missed opportunity…
    • Loved Valerie Mahaffey as crazy as a box of frogs Sandy Cooper on Wings. 2025 needs to chill out already. May Ms. Mahaffey rest in peace.
    • She was great on there. And Wings. And so many shows. I don't feel like we get those character actors as much now.
    • Cady did have a southern accent as Dixie in her first few years playing the character... but it started to minimize the longer she played the character (which tracks because my aunt had a heavy southern accent when married my uncle and years living in the north has softened it quite a bit). Her initial stint playing Rosanna was partly due to mirroring the previous actress and eventually developing her own take on the character. And the thing about her take as Kelly on Y & R was that she was too sedate when she first took over playing the role (she was supposed to play a woman that had recently lost her child.. and trying to keep things together) and then went OTT crazy and didn't play it well.    And I don't care to remember her attempt at playing Jennifer on Days. I think this Pamela character is the first time she's playing a character from the start and I think she's like a kid at a candy store.  She's having so much fun trying different things... and I hope eventually she decides to settle on a more consistent character for Pamela (perhaps her love of accents is a character trait based on something traumatic that happened to her in the past maybe).
    • That's sad. I remember her mostly from ER and the shortlived, yet very funny, sitcom The Powers That Be.
    • As always loved seeing Ric with Liz. I hope the show forever keeps them in each others orbit even if it’s just platonic. I’m sure she’s going to cut him out when she finds out he’s blackmailing Alexis though. So darn.
    • I have to be honest I’m really struggling with this show. I love everything with Eva/Leslie/Ted/Nicole/Kat and enjoy Dani and Bill’s shenanigans (I’m on the Hayley needs to be recast train now tho), Chelsea is second to Kat as my favorite Dupree grandkid and I loved her coming out to her mom. The show was on a truly great run with the big Leslie and Eva reveal at Nicole and Ted’s anniversary party and the fall out has still been good even with the unnecessary Ted recast and them making Leslie kind of dumb by exposing herself too much unnecessarily. The real problem for me started when they rotated back to way too damn much screen time for Derek/Ashley/Andre (if anyone should have been up first for a recast it was these three IMO). They tried way too hard to drum up drama between Ashley and Derek and the actors were clearly fighting for their mediocre charisma less acting lives to make it work but none of it landed, just horrible. Naomi and Jacob and this weird homeless woman story are also BORING. I can see where its potentially going but IDGAF at all, my only hope for them is that they’re building a triangle with Naomi/Jacob/Kat because Jacob and Kat have stronger chemistry together than their current love interests (Eva is the only one who can make the awful Tomas work). Martin, his secret and still cringe worthy acting got kind of interesting with Bill dropping hints to Smitty but they completely lost me with that lil fakeout scene at the country club. The lame “teenagers” (air quotes because Samantha is no Bianca Lawson and never beating the black Andrea Zuckerman allegations) can get off my screen as well. Joey creeping on Vanessa is grossing me out at this point, I actually quite like Vanessa and Doug now but Joey falls totally flat as a villain and someone we’re supposed to buy Vanessa being enamored with. I’m glad they’ve finally set up something interesting for Vernon and Anita to do with this girl band reunion instead of Anita wringing her hands and telling us she feels darkness coming and Vernon giving a civil rights speech every episode but yeah… People who’ve posted with me for other shows know I’m not one for fast forwarding or hate watching either, if I find a majority of a show is not working I usually just quit but because of what this show represents for me as a Black male soap fan I really want to stick it out. Its just become a challenge lately. I saw Guza has left the building and I REALLY hope we hear about some more BTS changes. The additions of Tracy Thompson and Jamie Giddens don’t exactly inspire a lot of confidence from me tho. Honestly praying hard for a new EP to replace JHC, a lot of the stuff that annoyed about her PC and AMC runs has started to match up here. I’m giving the show through the Summer to rectify some things but IDK how long I can hold on tbh. Its been a struggle to even finish some of these episodes lately.
    • I agree. I liked the episode but it felt jarring to suddenly return to a bunch of plots that had been put on pause since the Nurses' Ball started. Although I did like Laura popping in at the end to tell Alexis that millions of dollars have suddenly disappeared from Ace's trust fund. One set of scenes that made me feel optimistic for the next few months were between Sofia Mattsson and Rory Gibson. While Rory has been good as a darker, colder Michael this week, I was worried that he might not have much range. But he really warmed up with Mattsson, and I thought that (for the first time) Michael and Sasha had some genuine chemistry.
    • Next week is going to be such a sad time... I just feel it based on what was shown today. I'm wondering if the whole John being bandaged thing being a throwback to how he first arrived on the show was a Ron C idea since it just seems as though this would be something he would come up with.  If so, it's good that Cwikly/Ford are in charge with the implementing of the idea instead of him. Just a delayed thought from the Ciara scenes earlier in the week, or last week.. and how she had an odd way of dressing/acting.  I chuckle because little Ciara did say that she admired and wanted to be just like Kristen when she grew up.  So the fact that her outfit choices are so odd/off beat and her manner is a bit OTT just fits.. especially since Eileen's Kristen had an odd sense of fashion and that frantic OTT undertone to her delivery. With that said, a part of me wonders how Eileen's Kristen would have handled the scenes being done this week in regards to John's situation.
