OLTL: Discussion for the week of December 5

I've never been as big into the Rauch OLTL as many are--and I think it started a lot of issues with OLTL, but I think the stuff when Peggy O'Shea was still writing did a good mix of great character work and camp (even if it's true it started to be all about the rich and outrageous)--it was when she left, and especially Shnessel's (sp?) last year where things got out of control.

Exactly. O'Shea knew how to ground the more outrageous ideas in reality. Plus, it helped that she'd been there before Rauch, and thus knew the show better than others.

Wow, totally did not expect to see Cutter confess all to Gigi

Damn can someone tell me what is going on the show since the news cut in here in DC

Nope, no OLTL for me today. Coverage of yet another shooting at VA Tech. :(

Go Blair! I love that she has her brain on and isnt being stupid for Todd. I admire her devoition and trust in Tomas and going off on Todd while defending him.Take that loser!

Shane's starting to come across like a little psycho. I thought he was done with that.

Yeah something about the Park is the prospect for the return of soaps... Kinda sad knowing they wrote and filmed all this thinking it wouldn't be a tribute to their fans seeing as the soap is canceled but more a tribute to the fact they got a second life. Which they didn't...

I totally agree with the above quote, Eric.

I am usually not a fan of the way RC writes comedy, but the "Fraternity Row" storyline is quite funny. Although I don't know if this was his intention, Roxy acting like a crazed soap fan is a great satire on the whole situation. However, I was less than thrilled that they made Clint into some evil bastard because he suggested that the soap was cancelled because it wans't profitable. (Clint did not say those words, but he did say that his company can't save the soap for business reasons.) To be more true to life, the "Fraternity Row" scenes should have happened in a park, and all the fans who want to save the soap should go out and buy vacuum cleaners.

Also, it is so sad that a fictional soap got a SOW cover announcing it was cancelled, given the magazine failed to do the same when cancellation announcements came for the two longest running real soaps.

The writing and acting of that first Gigi/Cutter scene was SO Days of our Lives, right?

I know they retconned their blood relation, but Shane really does favor Roxy if you take a good look at them.

I also think Todd happens to currently resemble Carmen who used to play Jack.

I hate myself for feeling slightly bad for Jack for being duped, that is so the OLTL way. :P

Im sick of these NBC style fakeouts. JER used to do this sh-t all the time

I admit, they bug me too. That patterned with the endless flashbacks we suddenly always get it seems since the Summer (often to things we saw just in the previous episode). Though during the fakeout I was getting annoyed with the writing, so I guess I was glad it wasn't real :P

I don't quite get the SOW thing. The show now has a credit thanking SOW for promotional consideration (the way they did when they promoted those vegetable juices, etc). So SOW paid them for the placement?

That fakeout went on for so damn long I swore you all must have been talking about something else.

Those Bonjour extras look like they went to a Halloween party as Jack and Ennis.
