AMC and OLTL Canceled! Part 2!

What a shame. All that stuff was a piece of television history. Some part of those shows belong in the Smithsonian right next to the chairs from All in the Family, the set from Julia Child's cooking show and Julie Newmar's Catwoman costume. (Yes, all those things are in the Smithsonian.) These shows, including the canceled CBS soaps. are a part of pop culture history. I'm happier than ever that the "Goodnight Pine Valley" party included a charity auction. At least some stuff made it into the hands of fans.

Where did the "news" that PP bought the sets come from? Whoever originally reported that needs to own up.

Trashed? I have a hard time believing that. Oh to be a dumpster diver in Manhattan on that day! I would have given Llanfair's blue velvet chairs a good home.

I can see ABC doing this, I doubt they'd bother to do anything else with the stuff.

Marceline I can't remember who first reported this, I think it was the same people who reported the cancellation, I'm blanking on the name

When the P&G shows ended all of their stuff ended up with one of the companies that deals with such items. If one went to the auction and was willing to pick things up they could have gotten furniture pieces and decor. The sets were trashed, but the stuff that could be sold was liquidated like paintings and desks.

Yeah, I can see sets/flats being stripped/recycled/trashed of course, but throwing away furniture in these rough financial times seems hard to believe... unless there's some weird union rule I don't know about.

Have you changed that list of SONers you want to get drunk with yet? tongue.png

Yes, you are on the list LOL.

LOL but can you imagine dumpster diving in Manhattan and just pulling out the staircase from Llanfair? lol

I hope Ilene Kristen got Roxy's portrait, and Tonja got Alex's if she hadn't already. Robin got hers.

Everything from OLTL trashed and gone. Evil. I would have been happy to pay to take it ALL, they could have put it up for auction. UGH.

:(

I'm hoping they donated stuff to some organization for a tax writeoff, clothes and clothing and household items can always be put to use by someone other than that I really don't see a need to keep anything. Maybe they let some of the actors and crew take something.

I hope every actor got to take at least one thing from the set. I know that's a standard practice in primetime but idk about daytime.

Marie Masters talked about this when ATWT ended. They didn't get to have much of anything. I think she said she tried to find an old script she'd had in Susan's living room for a long time.

From Michael Fairman's Best and Worst of 2011:

MOST INEXCUSABLE WAY TO HANDLE THE SOAPS AND ITS AUDIENCE

Prospect Park allowing OLTL to film their final episode knowing that they couldn’t come up with a way to put it online, and making the actors tout that the show is continuing, and leaving fans in the dark with no proper press.
