GH: Classic Thread

This is truly an awesome find Carl. Early Tracy being all nicey nicey. I loved that Gail saw through Tracy. If only some of the David Hamilton story would pop up. It does make me sad watching classic GH. Since GH has gone off the rails. Over the years. The episode was actually about the GH staff. And their friends and family. Instead of played out mobsters, rapists and serial killers. Just love all those 70's commercials.

I remember reading that Patsy Rahn's Monica was very out of control (didn't she even try to kill Rick when he was in a coma?). I wonder if this was an attempt to clean her up for viewers before the quad kicked into gear.

Thank you @victoria foxton. Love that gif of Tracy. I wasn't sure if this one was around or not, it's so hard to remember what used to be on Youtube, but it was new to me so I am happy if it was for others too. Hopefully that channel may put up some more content. The quality really impressed me - many GH episodes from this period are very degraded.

Sorry, I forgot to tag @jam6242 and @vetsoapfan in case they haven't seen this one either.

39 years ago today, Demi Moore debuted as Jackie Templeton. Incidentally her first scene was with Genie Francis!

And I can see now why they cast Kim Delaney as today’s Jackie. She could definitely pass for an older believable version!

Fantastic episode!

Good quality GH of this vintage is really rare, and it’s so great seeing.

That Jesse and Bobbie scene was really interesting.  Always great seeing Gail and Lee Baldwin.

This period of the show fascinates me so much.  You can tell why the show started to gain viewers, it’s got a great mix of new characters interacting with established ones and all the stories have movement.  What I think of as Monty’s style is cemented once PFS gets there, so this early stuff is an interesting mix of classic soap drama turned up a couple of notches, as opposed to later in her run when it really was more like a modern primetime show.  Even a talk to scene here has a point of view and more going on than just repeating the plot.

I've been discouraged recently to see so many videos being censored/deleted from the internet. I had saved many old soaps to a massive 64-GB USB device over the years, but it mysteriously become corrupted and unplayable this week (all the file names have turned to gibberish), so all my rare old soaps are lost forever. I am bereft! I went to youtube to find and re-download certain things (like the famous 1974 Alice/Rachel fight from AW), but they have been removed.

Seeing vintage soaps like this GH episode (even if it's incomplete) is a treat.

I'm so sorry to hear that. There's so much I wish I'd saved. Hopefully that 1974 clip can come around again. I talked some with munecojim on one of my Youtube channels and they seemed to think it was the AMC videos. If so, then it's just another example of this genre alienating the very fans who keep it going.

I don't know what's going on with the internet lately. Friends tell me that their Twitter and Facebook videos are suddenly being removed--sometimes after years of being left alone--for copyright violations. It's been reported everywhere that the infamous pornhub.com has deleted MILLIONS of its vids. Soaps are disappearing from youtube after being available for years. That's why I decided to check my "Favorites" USB key with all my classic TV content. I was horrified to discover it won't play anymore. I have no clue about how to repair or retrieve data from a USB device. I may have to start saving all my stuff privately, "in the clouds," as they say.

    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
    • Thanks. I know Marland did that type of thing sometimes but it's less likely with these characters. I don't even remember Alex ever mentioning him.
    • French fan summary Rusty took over Simon's job at Lewis Trucking after Simon transferred to Lewis Oil's North Carolina office to live near Jessie and Calla. I doubt they would bother following up a story for offscreen characters eg marriage and a baby.
    • I suspected that the performance with the reveal was the reason why the Ted actor got the axe and it looks like I was right. He wasn't really good at conveying what needed to be conveyed in those scenes. Claybon is at least slowly improving (but I agree that he still needs to work on his line delivery), but I do wonder what will happen when his big reveal is coming up.
    • I've already asked this before, recently, but can anyone who watched those years more closely tell me if anything said about Jessie and Simon at the end of their profiles is accurate (about them marrying, naming a baby after Brandon/Lujack, etc.)?
    • Nicole is way too smart to not know she was carrying twins - she's a doctor! My guess is that Leslie did abort her baby out of fear, and as payback, stole Ted and Nicole's child (Eva), and stole Kat from another family to replace her in the hospital.
    • Those Soap Central profiles have a lot of incorrect info. According to SOD summaries and the Daytime Newsletter of the time,Tim left town for a new job and Pam reunited with the father of her baby and also departed Springfield. They did not marry.
    • Do we believe that Jabot is at the level of Estee Lauder?? I am on board with Jabot deciding to expand but the way it was handled was ridiculous. Jabot just decided and bingo, that was that. Not months of negotiations and decisions about how it would fit into the Jabot portfolio. And then no follow through. Josh thinks he's serving business stories by characters sitting around and discussing mergers, takeovers and job switching. Now we have Audra setting up her own company -Vibrator or something. Well, why not? You don't need staff, office space or even products.
