I'm surprised Bravo would pick them up, if they have - they seem very heavily tied to reality shows. Then again with the many problems the Housewives franchise has been facing, this may be a good move.

Couldn't the networks airing AMC and OLTL in Canada continue to air them?

Oh that's awesome! Bravo is a great choice. Good for Andy Cohen if he comes through for the soap fans! I really like him, actually.

Unless they have a backer with some deep ass pockets, I cant imagine how they'd be able to pay SL the same as she's being paid now, and keep other higher paid actors as well. I'll be shocked if she does do the online version

I'll be shocked if she doesn't participate in some capacity. I think PP knows that they need SL to get this off the ground and have been prepared to pay her alot from the start.

Didn't we hear they were being subsidized by the government or was that just rumor? Either way, I have a hard time imagining SL as a regular on an internet series. We all know she has a lot of othr irons in the fire and hasn't actually needed AMC in a very long time. With any luck she'll stop by PV every now and again.

There is no subsidy, that was a silly rumor that came from one vague, unidentified source and there is no indication or evidence that it's true. It makes no sense for the government to get involved in this anyway and if they had, there would already be a political firestorm over wasting money on this while there's a debt crisis and another looming recession.

I think SL will be involved on more of a recurring basis. She'll probably get paid the same as she did at ABC per episode but she'll appear less so they won't have to pay her the same per year.

At the beginning? Sure, people doubted this could be done or work out. People still do. But the Netflix deal proves the concept is sound.

The Netflix deal is apples and PP is oranges. Netflix has a broad business model and huge pre-existing customer base. They have the capital to take a chance on something like this and have built-in viewers. Prospect Park doesn't even have a website set-up yet. That doesn't mean that they can't pull it together, but they are starting from scratch on this which makes their risk far bigger. PP also has to produce the show themselves, Netflix is buying a ready-made product.

Bravo's owned by NBC correct?

Bravo and NBC are both owned by Comcast. Bravo is totally invested in reality programming but the audience demographics for soaps and reality are similar so they make the most sense of any basic cable channel out there to try this.

I don't think reality and soaps are necessarily watched by the same people thats a very general stmt considering there are a ton of diff types of reality shows. I don;t know people watching Pawn stars for example watch AMC. But there is a synergy with the Housewives and Soaps because Housewives are reality soaps for the most part. I would actually be sory of interested to know how well the Housewives repeats are doing on NBC as a daytime companion piece to Days. It doesn;t seemed to have helped Days much but I wonder if Days has helped their viewership.

To the ratings experts. What kind of ratings will OLTL and AMC have to sustain to be deemed successful? Though I could never go without it, there are people who don't have cable at all, so there will be less eyes.

I think around a million would be substantial, maybe half a million? Not really sure. For some cable shows (or HBO for example), 800,000 is deemed acceptable for a once a week show. I'm sure if a daily soap can achieve around a million a week it would be huge for any network.

What kind of numbers do the Real Housewives get on Bravo?

Remember Nighshift on Soapnet that spinoff show Frons did. THat was considered marginally succdessful the first season and a flop the second season. Does anyone remember the numbers they got?

The successful Housewives shows usually get 1-3 million an episode, which is basically what AMC and OLTL get. I know nothing about the economics of anything, so I don't know how production costs and ad rates would play into that.

If the Bravo thing happens, I just hope they play them outside of daytime at least as on the weekend or something.
