A carpenter on a weight loss show?

"Extreme Makeover: Waistline Edition"?

Thank you all for the supportive tweets.

So Gordon Elliot thinks The Chew will last 14 years? It will be lucky to last 14 months.

"Talking news" and "talking food" are entirely different things. They call it news because it's new every day. Food is food. Talking about it for an hour a day is going to get old, AS THEM RATINGS FROM LAST WEEK SHOW.

"I think that was the strengths of the soaps, (but) people have become very reality-based. They don’t need to see actors doing it. And it’s obvious in the research and the drift to cable; they want to get something. Viewers’ lives are busy. They’re stressed. They need to get something out of what their viewing choices are. That’s why they’re drifting to the Web. What we’re doing is taking what we know people want and presenting it in a very entertaining, chewable format, pun was intended."

Yet more people watch soaps, which are at their worst. Get the f!ck.

It's funny that he says people are turning to reality, when every single major network reality show this year has lost ratings, performed below expectations, and is being beaten by scripted programs (even more often than not in the precious 18-34).

Viewers’ lives are busy. They’re stressed.

Does he watch his own show? Over and over I've heard people - and these aren't the dreaded soap fans - saying the show is hectic, confusing, and exhausting. If people are stressed why would they want to see this?

No one has watched The View for 14 years because women talk about the news. They watch to gawk at dumbasses.

ANOTHER male version of The View? I wish Baba would just go mutter in the corner about Harry Reasoner.

I'm not a big fan of Alessandra Stanley's "writing", so I shouldn't be too shocked with this, but most of the examples she mentions of a crossover between food and entertainment are shows that are gone (Entourage) or names that aren't anywhere as powerful as they used to be (Gordon Ramsay). Including such random things as Paltrow and Crow having cookbooks or food sections is even more baffling, because entertainment personalities have ALWAYS done this. Even the much dreaded soap operas had cookbooks going back to radio days.

I just don't buy that food on TV is some hip new trend or gaining steam.

I imagine that the whole town will have been shot to death and Cara and Ryan are the only survivors and have to repopulate Pine Valley with their kids.
