The Plan to Save GH!

The latest issue of SOD features an interview with GH's new Head Writer Garin Wolf, and the cover headline says "THE PLAN TO SAVE GH!" (With a giant pic of Maurice Benard posing in the background).

-Garin says he wants to balance the show and is a fan of romance, history, and secrets. He said there will be a lot of people with secrets.

-He loves story and wants to tell plots that have a beginning, middle, and end. His motto for this Summer is "Sometimes they come back".

-Talks about the possibility of Kate making a return. All he says about that is that Sonny's going to go back home to Bensonhurst and it will open an old door. Garen says, "Sometimes you have to go home, even when you shouldn't,".

-His second catchphrase for the summer is "Let yourself be surprised, have fun and get involved."

-In response to fans saying GH is to dark and mob centric, Garin recites the word "balance" three times and adds that you can't have dark without light. The mob will not necessarily go away, but it will become a backdrop to the emotions of the characters and the situations they get themselves into. Things like the hospital and the Spencer family will become just as important. "Nobody is going to be overlooked."

-When asked about how he's known for paying a lot of attention to women characters and show vets, Garin says he loves strong, powerful women with a conflict. He wants to give story to everybody. Says GH wouldn't be GH without the Quartermaines and veterans.

-Says his material starts airing the last week of July and that there will be fan favorites returning in that show. He says it will be a smooth transition, but the first few days will be "tense, tense, tense."

-In response to rumors that he's joining the show only to wrap it up for the end, he says that he plans to slice the cake for the shows 50th Anniversary on April 1, 2013.

I can't see Gina working well at all with any of GH's leading men. It doesn't help that GH has one of the worst male casts on daytime.

Perhaps she can be the new Siobhan, and she can shout at JJ as he weeps. I'd enjoy that.

Isn't "Sometimes They Come Back" a Stephen King book? Will we see demon Foster and Annabelle devouring Luke and Monica?

These have been a prominent part of the show in the last few years, but that doesn't matter if the stories aren't there. What can you do with the Spencer family now? Guza has spent a decade telling viewers that Luke's biggest regret was having kids. Lulu is a self-righteous shrieker who has no relationship with anyone in her family beyond a daddy fixation on Luke. Lucky is a crybaby doormat who only perks up when he can tell a rape victim she is only worthwhile when she's bleeding in the snow. Ethan is a bastard in several sense of the word. And Luke is toxic waste. Carly is not a Spencer in anything but blood ties through a mother who no longer exists.

I wish the show would have the guts to write them all out.

Wolfe's making all the right noises to please all the fanbases being careful not to alienate any particular group.

But it screams cancellation to me. After a decade of micromanaging the soaps, why the hell would Frons backtrack and basically admit defeat unless they were looking to wrap up the show a la Broderick & Nixon?
