Does Bree Williamson have a BRIGHT FUTURE outside of OLTL?

Today Bree Williamson garnered her third emmy nomination in a row for her portrayel as Jessica. IMO Bree has been one of the most featured, beloved gems for OLTL. ABC and Brian Frons have always adored her. I honestly believe we will be seeing Bree Williamson in the future somewhere soon after OLTL. She will have played the role of Jessica for nine years by the time she ends OLTL. Now actress in the last 10 years besides ES has garnered this many nominations. What do u see in Bree Williamson's future? Will she do well after OLTL?

I don't think emmy nominations are a fair gauge of future success. I thought Bree's nomination this year was a joke. The whole teenage Jess thing was beyond bad. Bree does have a look that I am sure would get her some work, but she is going to have real competition with everyone from 2 soaps (many more talented than her) all looking for work. I don't think many will be impressed with her being a pet of Frons'.

I can see her easily as one of the few Y&R goes after but what if DAYS brought her on as Belle and have a rivalry with Sami for some reason? I could see a great rivalry on between Alison Sweeney and Bree.

But outside of soaps? Not sure Bree would do that great.

I think she very well could. She is pretty in a non-threatening way, and she has managed to get a few primetime roles in her time on OLTL. I think that the days of actors having a stigma for a soap run is probably passing us by, because no one cares about soaps now. It's not this mammoth bastard no one speaks of but everyone knows of.

She's not going to be some name but I can see her working consistently in primetime.

If she was going to become a big star it would've happened.

If nothing else, OLTL has shown the upper limit of her talent. She's a decent actress but she can't make a classic heroine like Jessica work on Jessica's own merits, or perhaps has convinced herself or allowed OLTL to convince her she can't - she rarely if ever plays an adult Jess, and she seemed to always throw herself into the comedy aspect of the DID follies while downplaying or outright failing to play anything involving Jessica actually digging deep or facing her traumas. When faced with really deep material, she tends to choke - with the exception of Nash's death and the recent wedding blow-up. But again, at the last moment, she had a safety valve each time: More "fun" with Tess. They never have made her play through this stuff long-term as just Jessica. If they had she might not seem so limited to me.

As it is, were the show going on I would welcome either the return of Erin Torpey or a third Jessica to flesh out the character more. I think Bree can do better, but she simply hasn't.

I do think she could be quite a good Belle on DAYS but I'd rather see them take Kirsten Storms back when GH goes under.

I definitely agree with you about her range - I don't think she has any at all - but I've seen so many people in primetime who are as bad, or worse, and some of them, like that woman on Castle, I still shake my head at. Sometimes these days it seems like the less talented you are the more work you get.

Well she's definitely a beautiful girl. Definitely didn't have the odd look of her predecessor (sometimes puberty can eff up a cute kid, and it lingers on for the rest of their life, but I digress...)

But if Lindsey McKeon (GL) and the chick who played Catalina (GL) can get a nod, along with Tammin Suresucks from Y&R, it's not really a fair assessment that a Younger Lead Actress Nomination = Big Talent.

But I'm sure she could find work on one of the CW Network shows as a too-old-to-be-cast-as-a-teenager highschool bombshell.

Frankly, I don't think they've ever made her, b/c they know how limited she is as "just Jess." Unfortunately, what used to be her only strength (Tess) has become more of a liability.

At this point, they could kill off Jess, give Erika Slezak one last, good Emmy reel, and I would be totally satisfied.

    • Thanks. I'd forgotten about that. It is odd she wasn't asked back. Maybe they just gave up.  Harley/Philip is one of those relationships which lingered on longer than it should have. I never got the sense the show had any great interest in them together beyond the first six months or so, and there was little to no chemistry between them after that point.

    • I am just so happy with the new writing. Everything feels so much more mature. The connections between plots and characters reminds me of the eighties, and I just plain old LIKE everybody. I very much enjoyed Philip's apology tour with his two exes, and both of them being gracious to him. This version of Philip is so interesting, very flawed, but trying to do better, and I do believe he wanted the brother bond with Xander very much and is hoping to get that back. Speaking of brothers, we got Xander's first ever mention of his other brother, Bo. And how interesting that Titan is also working on a cure for sepsis. If the one with Dr Russell falls through we have a back up plan. And the seamless writing continued with Sarah trying to get out of a conference and Kayla needing to get Dr Russell out of town, I love when things just make sense like that. Shout out to Xander with cucumbers on his eyes lol And under the new regime I am not hating Stalex. I think this couple was just hammered by Ron by constantly making them sleep with other people. It was hard to root for them when the writer didn't care about them as a pairing, just about getting Rob naked. I am happy to see what happens here too. Stefan got a get well card to EJ? I wonder if it had a coded HELP ME in the message. Glad Kayla turned him down. She should never forget how he used Steve as a pawn back in the day. Characters are actually remembering this stuff these days.
    • That happens sometimes on cbs/paramount. Just refresh the page and it should work.
    • In a 1997 SOD article, Ehlers mentions that she was asked to return several times, but was surprised she wasn't asked to return for her "mother's" funeral.  This was when she returned for the 60th Anniversary event. They were a really popular pairing for a few years ago.  As an older viewer, it seemed strange seeing Beth as the odd one out, but 1998 Beth was a totally different character.  She was written as a manipulative, vixen.

    • It seems obvious based on the initial material that Korte was going to take another foolish run at Jason and Carly a la 2021 and hoped Mulcahey being back would make it work, as he wrote such famous material for Steve, Sarah, etc. I think a couple good dialogue scenes came out of them together very early on, but there was never any denying that Steve and Laura have never had and will never have any romantic chemistry, plus the audience doesn't want it. So they pivoted to her with that useless dayplayer (Brennan) and now here they all are, spinning their wheels doing nothing of value on the show. I do think PM had planned to do much more with Jason's sons and that rivalry/friction, but once he was gone so was Jake. I've rarely seen any of the core mob 3 feel so totally extraneous and directionless on the canvas. Not that I mind. Anything that makes Jason easier to get rid of works for me.
    • I just edited the 1998 SOD Awards & Laura Wright won Best New Character for Cassie on GL. Also Philip & Harley won something of some name for them as a couple & when they finished saying their effusive thanks at the mic, Grant picked Beth up & literally threw her over his shoulder & walked backstage that way. I mean, it's great that Beth Ehlers is a good sport, right?

    • nothing. The story was put on the backburner while they focused on other stuff. I think thats one of the issues i have with the show in that it sometimes struggles with balance as stories will disappear for weeks and then reappear (Chelsea's throuple for example)
