A recent comment about Wanda being Asa's cousin got me Goggle-ing this morning and I found this old family tree, which kind of explains it...

But it also lead to more questions - like - When (blonde/short hair) Andi and her police pals hung out, where they at Wanda's Diner or Carlotta's Diner (given that Andi dated Antonio)?  Did Carlotta take over Wanda's, or were they two different diners?  Whatever happened to Max's western themed bar?

Also, somehow I fell into a hole about Trent Chapin, Laurel's brother/Larry's brother-in-law.  Most of what I found had to do with the fact that his portrayer David Beecroft dated Robin Strasser  (I always mix up David and Greg Beecroft, later of which is gay so it confused me that he had an affair with Robin, but now it makes sense).  Any way, I found this summary that tied Trent to the death of Samantha (spoiler alert), the details of which I totally did not recall.

 Herb Boden killed her.

He was stealing her jewels from the wall safe in the Vernon Inn's
Health Club. She walked in at the wrong time.
Boden was stealing the jewels for Trent Chapin, right hand man of
Alesandro Corenale (sp?) who is a big crime boss (but otherwise a
nice guy). Brad Vernon was going to use the jewels to buy back
ownership of the hotel from Alex Crown (alias Alesandro C.).
Alex doesn't know anything about all this. Trent is the real bad
guy. He had Boden kill Leo Corinale in Atlantic City. Leo was Alex's
dad. Boden also shot Roberto Corinale while killing Leo. Roberto
is Alex's son and has been hiding in the theatre in Llanview for
the last week. Alex is still searching for Roberto.

There is another woman named Jinx who is missing now. She is a
photographer and also a lover of Trent. She's the one who told him
about the jewels, but she didn't know he would have them stolen.
She also caught Boden in the act, but Boden didn't see her. She
took his picture and ran out. She went downstairs and told Trent
she saw a robbery and that it was the same guy who killed Leo.
She doesn't yet know Trent is behind all this.
Trent sort of dragged her out of the hotel and wouldn't let her tell
the police. Now the police are looking for her.

I'm guessing these aren't the same jewels mentioned above that Jamie wants in order to fulfill his life-preserving faux-gold/cheapest-prop-ever pyramid?

Which now leads to two more questions/comments - (1) Who played Jinx? and (2) I had no memory that Rob stayed around long enough to have a love affair with Joanna (who I only recall because she was played by Roma Downey).  Does anyone else always associate actors with the roles they played on soaps, no matter how famous they become in other genres?

@victoria foxton & @slick jones Your combined forces never cease to amaze me

Just to clarify the summary above, Samantha loaned her brother Brad her jewels so that he could buy back the hotel.  But first she stashed them in her locker so she could work out and that's when Bodin tried to steal them, she saw it, and then he drowned her in the hot tub?

And those jewels were not the same one's that Jamie needed a few years later?

I really wish we knew more about Head Writer Michael Schnessel because the late 80s was just so much camp and I love it, those scenes with Cord battling Titan and Tina battling Ursula in the wrestling ring and ensuing electric chair drama is just insane..

With that said, I really wish they had more balanced the insanity with more real family drama/diversity as it ultimately killed the show once AE left as Tina, Schnessel left (or passed?) and they had no one else to rely on

    • Sounds like me, but I prefer to be referred to as Contessa. We all know I can go a long time not paying attention to certain things.
    • That did cross my mind at first, but I'd be more inclined to believe it if this didn't involve Trump. I'm not at all sure he is capable of being that sneaky. Of course, there's always a possibility I guess that his advisors are doing it without telling him, but that seems awfully risky. Trump is such a loose cannon you can never predict what he's going to do or say.
    • Whoa. She should have fought like hell to get that. Was it the greatest show ever? No, but it had a fantastic cast and was practically guaranteed to last multiple seasons because of its star power. Could have certainly led to bigger and better things. If it had flopped she could have always gone back to soaps. Judith Light broke through on a sitcom where she was basically second banana to Tony Danza. That grew into a very busy and distinguished career. The woman is still regularly booked to this day.
    • I could understand her being frustrated by the fact that she'd been in the business 10+ years at that point, and probably couldn't even get in the door. But then again, she'd already gone out for pilot season once (that we know of) and she and  her agent knew a 35-ish woman had a very difficult time in Hollywood. I know she did a few guest spots, but other than Designing Women, nothing I saw--not even a Murder She Wrote, and that show had tons of ex-soapers on it. I mean, God bless Marilu Henner, but even having been on Taxi, she couldn't get arrested for years either.
    • I didn't rewatch that period, so I'm not really sure how much Bill is on. I recall something about him living at the boardinghouse. I think Van made Matt his guardian, and why she didn't name Josh would be a mystery to me, other than the HW decided they needed to keep Bill in Matt's sphere. Nola is also his aunt, although they don't know each other well, and Van wouldn't have trusted her anyway. There's Dinah---but she's unreliable. Billy gets out of jail around NYE.

    • That's on Kimmer. As someone posted above...she was offered roles in pilots but she would be part of an ensemble or supporting. She didn't want that so she came back to GL. I don't know what she thought would happen..someone offering her "Here's Kimmer!" or The "Zimmer Comedy Powerhouse Hour" variety show..but her housefrau fans did not have the same pull in HW as they did on the soaps. Forbes and Watros knew that you had to take small parts to get noticed ands start a career in primetime. I know she was in consideration for the wife in Evening Shade, but when you go up against Marilou Henner, the soap diva looses. I could see her frustrated in a role like that, where she has to be the understanding wife with a bit of sass, but she could have made it work, if it wasnt for her huge ego.  I think it would have been an issue haveing all the powerhouse comedy actors surrounding...(lets face it..Alice Ghostly woudl have wiped the floor with her...) but it would have been a good launching padd.
    • Oh good, so I don't have to wait too long haha. I'm glad she cares about seeing Bill graduate. I'm guessing I'm in for a bumpy ride between Bill and Matt, if he's going to be his caretaker? Who else could it be, maybe Josh?

    • Maeve makes a few sporadic appearances, but returns full-time the next spring/summer. She's back in time to see Bill and Michelle graduate, although she skulks around town and wasn't going to tell anyone she was alive. She comes back wearing this HUGE hat---which was a throwback to the old Vanesaa. lol.
