Sadly, I missed a lot of 2003 as I was transitioning into college and didn't have a VCR at the time. So I missed a lot of Joni/Reggie and then Laurie (both actresses becoming huge stars, which I love to see). Weren't those two ladies brought on when JR and Jamie were grown up - with those two guys that didn't last long either. I just remember thinking Joni/Laurie/JR/Jamie didn't last very long and then JR/Jamie grew up more when Young and Bruening took over (which was successful of course).

They were, yes. Laurie was meant to be stuck up (contrasting with Reggie) while Laurie was the latest AMC version of lower class. I was mostly interested because Robert Clohessy played her father and I enjoyed him on Oz at the time. He was teased with Liza but he soon vanished, Laurie not far behind. Joni had a lot of potential though - Seyfried was still very green but she had clear star quality.

Joni and Reggie could've gone far. It's for the best for both actors' careers they didn't though.

I didn't know about Seyfried's other new movie but The Testament of Ann Lee looks wild.

The only thing I know about it is down to Sydney Sweeney being in it, the likely third or fourth mega-flop in a row finally leading her to do a way too late PR response.

When was Joni's last appearance? I thought that would be easy enough to look up and find, but it's not. I feel as though she was written out in McTavish's general overhaul of the cast.

The "original" grown-up JR and Jamie were Jonathan Bennett and Micah Alberti, respectively, with Andrew Ridings taking over as JR in 2002. I can't find how long he was on, either, nor can I remember when he last appeared, but I do recall that JY first debuted in the role in October 2003.

It seems like out of the whole set of younger cast in the two or so years before McTavish returned, only Alberti and Ridings haven't gone on to some level of lasting success.

I remember Ridings being terrible and miscast. He was better a few years later as Dorian's recurring henpecked aide in the final years of OLTL. Alberti was a nice body and not much else. They did the right thing dumping both. But I always thought it was a mistake not securing Jesse McCartney a while longer until they had to age J.R. up.

Yes, I agree with all of that. Ridings really was hard to watch, especially because his JR was so angry through his entire run. I think of him, and all I can see are scrunched eyes and his lower lip jutted out to overcompensate for an almost non-existent upper lip.

Let me just have my moment and say that I wore an AMC shirt to the last show Jesse played near me, and he just about died when I referred to him as "Adam Chandler Jr" when I went to take a photo with him after.

Housemaid based on bestselling books. Looks like one or both will be nuts?

Ha! I never did see his odd appearance in the mid-2000s as himself as a musical guest, where they made a lot of in-jokes about him having been on the show before? I still wonder about that. tbh Jesse has visibly aged enough that he could pick up the role again today lol.
