AMC: Lorraine Broderick named Headwriter

Classic Erica. In over her head, too proud to ask for help so she lashes out at others... all the while exposing her insecurities, leaving her vulnerable.

Not this untouchable, no one ever DARES challenge her type of false diva. I say "false" because over the last ten years, she has done little to nothing to maintain any type of legendary status. She's been living off the 1990s Erica fumes for a decade.

Wow, I just remembered how true this statement really is.

I can never thank MMT enough for killing Edmund and Trevor.

They were past due, and John I heard was an assh--- to Eva.

There is one thing that already puts Lorraine head over heels over any of these replacements, is that I know time is running out on the Marissa character. And all I can say it's ABOUT TIME!

Let me just remind everyone, MMT was touted as knowing the show's history, and what not...

We ended up with Janet killing Trevor and putting him a freezer.

Edmund's murder

Dixie eating the pancakes

The Unabortion

....

The history and being a good writer doesn't preclude someone from coming in f*cking up big time.

McTavish and Broderick are two completely different writers. Use a better comparison.

Agreed! Erica has become dare I say a little boring. She isn't even neurotic anymore. And it's my guess that the writers have written into (and SL has acted into) the criticism of the character, the non-Emmy winning criticism of the character. But being OTT and out of touch is like the very definition of Erica. She is not demure and *fierce* "jus' cuz". I don't care if not growing up makes her psychotic as Wyndham criticized AMC's take on the prototype she also played. Erica's immaturity made her infinitely watchable and that's why the moments of breaking down when Bianca's life has been on the line have been such standouts.

Killing him wasn't a mistake, having Janet do it was.

Wow! That is simply on the damn point, CD! I agree with you, 100%! That's exactly what the mistake was IMO. I don't believe for a second that Janet would ever kill Trevor. Janet killed for him (Will Cortlandt).

And she went through meds and went against Natalie and so much for him and Amanda. And then I hear "oh she just got pissed and put him in a freezer" GIMME A F#%#N BREAK!

If AMC wants to do a doppleganger s/l that would be where I would start. I can see Trevor leaving her ala Jesse, but not that BS that she killed him.

All of this to pimp that Barbie Bitch Babe.

Is it possible to have a soap with good quality and good ratings? Or must we pick between one or the other?

It's not impossible. The question should be, is it probable?

My answer is, NO! For every Modern Family ABC keeps on the air, there's a Mr. Belvedere ABC also keeps on the air.

He's always favored AMC, and the LA move and all the pomp and circumstance associated with "get to know THE NEW AMC!" was an ego trip for him. In the end it didn't help, but it doesn't matter, OLTL will probably still go under the wheels for it.

I'm not saying OLTL is really much good right now, it's not. It's pretty terrible most of the time. But it's not AMC, and it was never given a fraction of that consideration. Until the last couple years I thought only executives failed upwards, not actual programs.

Vee the other day you had a completely different perspective on it all.........

It was around this point I lost all faith in McTavish. It was a cheap, fanfictiony point. Having Janet revert I could handle, and even like, but... (I think killing Edmund the way they did comes close). I don't think Broderick would do this... I hope.

No, I'm pretty sanguine though sad if they both go at the same time. What would have always offended me, at least in the last three or four years - but not surprised me, I've often expected it - is OLTL getting tossed to cover AMC's failure. Which, again, I expected, but which stings even more now than it would have two or three years ago. Not because OLTL is much better than AMC these days, but because it is simply a pride move. They hyped up this LA thing, it failed, and no one involved will take responsibility, nor will AMC be expected to take the hit.

I don't hate All My Children, and I don't want it cancelled. If or when it is, I will grieve with its fans as a fan. That show is a proud institution, and frankly it had a much longer and more consistent run of quality and continuity with its history and core families than OLTL. It deserves so much better than it has, it should be saved, and I am glad it is getting Lorraine Broderick in some capacity. But what I abhor is the idea that after several years of preferential treatment, any soap would continue to be prioritized over a soap that has not only made its margins and, on average in my opinion, been a better show overall in the last half of the decade. Not by much in the last couple years, but enough.
