Members Eric83
I mentioned this in another thread, and decided to make a thread for it. The ABC soaps are doing repeats on Wednesday, Janaury 19. I was reading OLTL and GH dailies for the week of the 17th and the 19th was listed as a repeat. Members bellcurve
ABC should save these for those March Madness weeks when local pre-emptions for regional ball screw everything up anyway. They should do a two week break of reruns and resume when the ballgames are over. Do some sort of edge of your seat cliffhanger and tell the audience you'll be back in two weeks. Members DavidsMuse
How did you get daily info that far ahead? Does it give a clue as to which AMC episode will be repeated?
Members JackPeyton
I liked it when Days did that for the Olympics.
Webmaster Errol Posted December 30, 2010 Webmaster Share Posted December 30, 2010 Yes, the ABC soaps are airing encores (again) on January 19th. However, the episodes airing are not known at this time. Though as always, the episodes selected will be relevant to current storylines (even if it is five years or more old). Members Cheap21
I dont think that would make much sense bc thats when CBS has pre-emptions as they air the NCAA games. ABC keeps their soaps on the air, to get CBS viewers that cant watch their regular soaps. I dont mind a rerun once a month
Members reallyhateskateonlost
Oh look, the ratings for the ABC soaps sink further into the abyss.
Members OLTL_fan
I dont mind a rerun once a month but why cant they choose Friday?
Members bellcurve
The problem with this level of thinking is a.) when regional playoffs happen, those regional playoffs are syndicated. My local ABC affiliate aired the SEC playoffs the week before CBS aired the national playoffs. That pre-empted GH and all the ABC soap operas. b.) other than the loyalists, no one's gonna be watching the ABC soaps during the playoffs anyway. Women and gays love sports too. It just makes more sense to me to take one or both of those weeks off, build up to a helluva cliffhanger and come back after the championship is over. ETA: I think it hurts shows to have these pre-emptions on random days that no one thinks about than to take chunks of those days off. I think taking weeks off instead of just random days would build more suspense.
Members jcar03
I remember ABC poking fun at them to and now look. ABC is airing reruns at least once a month.
Members Mr. Vixen
i agree with all of this, except when was the last time any soap had a good cliffhanger, anyway? Most likely no one would care about it and two weeks off would just leave people time to find syndicated reruns of 90s sitcoms, and they'd forget all about soaps. But, if they could actually muster up a GOOD cliffhanger, then your idea is great.
Members dragonflies
I think taking weeks off would hurt the shows more than just one random repeat, and I do think think the repeats are hurting the ratings as well
Members Mr. Vixen
I don't think repeats are hurting the ratings. I'm pretty sure the week of the 20th, the Thursday repeat for GH was higher than any of Monday through Wednesday. It got like...2.6 million, versus the other days 2.
