Here's another Australian episode from late March 1985 featuring a scene between Dina, Ashley, and Victor that is in the vault clips! There's also a beautiful performance of Kenny Rogers' "Crazy" by Patty Weaver at the 18:48 mark directed to Neil Fenmore who is in the audience.

Lol, yeah. Even as a kid I would ignore her scenes, so I often forget she was in it so much. I pretty much skip her scenes on re-watch unless it is neccessary to view them. I did the same with Josh Morrow as Nicholas. I rarely paid attention to anything he was saying and only tuned into his scene partners, haha

In saying that I don't dislike Lauralee Bell, but Cricket is often annoying or worse, not interesting.

Oh Now i know why Terry Lester Complained! I've never got into the late 1980's properly, i didn't see anything wrong with her on the handful of episodes from 1983-89 episodes i spotted her in, So i guess Cricket only turned interesting after the rape

Cricket wasn't annoying when she showed up on school breaks from Spring 1983 to Spring 1986. Summer 1986 to end of 1989 was when Cricket ate the show. I also skip her scenes whenever an episode from that era shows up.

Haha, yeah I was never a fan. I kept waiting for him to get better in the role but I think ultimately he was miscast. I think John Nelson-Alden should have held on to the role a few years and Nicholas could have been part of the late 90's teen set with some minor aging and with someone else in the role.

Yes sorasing Nick so soon ultimately was short sighted.

Nick was born in 89 and was a  teen lead 6 years later and married by 97.

To fill the gap Billy was then sorased to be the new teen in 99 when again he was only 6 years old.

If the writers had been a bit more creative the show would be in better shape later on.

Maybe Matt Miller's son shows up in GC looking for his dad who has vanished. He stays with Victor and Nikki as a surrogate son and plays out the Nick stories.

Jennifer Foster was born in 1981 and could have returned in the mid to late 90's. She could have fallen for Brock's previously unknown son, thus setting Kay and Jill against each other in a variation of Mac/Billy.

Re Cricket : do we have any episode counts from that time to see if she actually led the appearance counts or did it just seem that way?

Agreed with the above. In terms of Cricket. Her appearances started going up in 1987 and even more so once Brenda was gone (probably just a coincidence)

We don't have enough from 1988 or 1989 to know for sure, but after the 87 counts I wouldn't be surprised. She was fourth for the year with 146 appearances of 246 eps. Lauralee was only behind Eric (148), Eileen (156) and Thom (156) for that year.

    • I assume in name only?  One Stormy Night wasn't exactly steamy.  If it's a literal throwback then Stephanie's writing about sexy times her own Uncle was having lol. Since I am going to surmise it's just a throwback to the name, Night Sins and Winter Heat both sound sexier.  Just saying.  I swear Jamey (and Ron) just google things and land on the first thing they like and decide it's a good throwback to history without watching it.
    • I usually don't want Tide placement in the middle of an intense sad scene, but this is an interesting point

    • Thanks!   Was anyone watching during this time? Wondering how Peggy’s rape played out onscreen. It just seems cruel to subject the Brooks family to this trauma a 2nd time.   Feels like the writers have already given up on the character of Jennifer, even though she sticks around another year-plus. She should be a passionate and fierce protective mother, but instead she seems just reactionary (and not even mentioned in this recap) This was also the case in ‘73 when Chris was raped. The writers are definitely more invested Stuart as the Brooks parent.
    • BTG got another SNL reference at 00:50  CONTEXT (so it isn't misconstrued) in this joke swap segment, Michael Che frequently makes his white cohost Colin Jost read racist jokes written by Che.

    • It's obvious that Israel's presence is a major divisive issue, and this is something that the EBU needs to deal with. According to the now published results Israel got 13 out of a possible 19 max points in the semi-final, and while their song isn't bad there's no way they would get those numbers without some kind of manipulation/political voting. They are clearly using this contest as a way of improving their somewhat tarnished reputation. I know that some people are comparing this to the massive sympathy votes that Ukraine gets and which propelled them to victory in 2022, but I feel that that was a more genuine show of support than this concerted effort from Israel to influence the televoting. I even had an ad on Youtube from Israel in Swedish(!) asking for votes! It might not be against any rules, but it feels a bit icky nonetheless.
    • Yeah, as you wrote, an Israeli win would have been a political disaster. Congratulations to Austria. 0 points from the televoting to Switzerland was a disgrace. Other than that, I really enjoyed the show ... but I'm also glad that Eurovision season is over

    • Hahaha Sorry if I was too negative, I just started typing and typing once I got going hahaha
    • @dc11786 Thanks for taking time to answer my various questions, along with giving your thoughts on the different writing teams. I wonder why they didn't just have Ryder and TR leave together if Jane was going anyway. The discussions over the last few pages have made me more interested in watching these episodes than I have been over the years - without the extra details and analyses provided, these years can be difficult to decipher (not helped by how often Jo seems like a side character).
