NBC made a draft for the movie that Deidre hated and she passed and a few years later ABC greenlit the script she wanted.  Money was probably involved like @te.said, but I am sure we all agree, we were the true winners here when this cinematic masterpiece came out lol.

Now, am I right in thinking that your tongue is stuck as far in your cheek as it will go?!!

Personally I just thought it was good that she got it made. And, I certainly never thought of NBC as a network that went out of its way to support its people or its shows.

Not strictly Days, but probably one of Bill Hayes' earliest tv appearances, on Olson and Johnson's "Fireball Fun-For-All," from 1949.

Leaving with Liz, instead of them breaking up probably would have been the right choice. I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did without her.

Did fans like him and Angelica? Or the friendship/relationship that he had with Jo?

It was so long ago that i don't remember if Neil and Angelica were popular. Don't think the marriage lasted very long. All poor Jo did for years was pine for Neil. He was completely clueless to Jo having feelings for him.

Maybe that's why he was kept around: for Jo

I think Neil only married Angelica so that Alex would have a father, but I wonder if it was popular, if fans were clamoring for them to be a real couple.

I hope Alex remembers who he is

I'm wondering if Anjelica & Neil was never seriously considered or if the pairing was cut short (did their marriage even make it to six months?) as a response to any/all of the above: Jane Elliot's departure, Shelley Taylor Morgan's (intentional?) temping, Judith Chapman's arrival, lack of chemistry between Joseph Gallison and any of these ladies or good old-fashioned ageism.
