Days was in ratings and story trouble by the late 70's.

The characters and stories that Bill Bell/PFS had written thru late 60's to mid 70's had been played out.

Bill/Laura,Mickey/Maggie and Doug/Julie had been through the mill and were happily married but subsequent writers had to scramble to find story that kept them frontburner hence Bill/Kate, Laura going crazy.,Maggie the alcoholic,Julie being raped/ on trial for murder and burnt etc

Also these characters were now in their 40's and in the case of Ed Mallory and John Clarke had not aged well.

Susan Flannery and Denise Alexander were gone and Laura and Susan were damaged as a result.

SORASING Mike and David worked short term but they were also married off too soon.

So the thinking behind an overhaul was sound but the execution was off. Within a few months, characters were killed off, shipped out of town and disappeared while a bunch of newbies appeared.

Had things played out more slowly and the new characters been more interesting things might have n=been different.

It's not my favorite era but I enjoyed it.  You know I love seeing anything with Doug and/or Julie (though I agree their scene was spoiled a bit at the end with Julie gasping).  I thought the scene with Doug and Marie was great.  We rarely get to see quiet scenes like that on Days anymore.  I enjoyed David's scene with Tom and Alice too.  Richard Guthrie was better here than I had remembered.  I also had forgotten that David still carried resentment toward Julie this late over her giving him up for adoption.  Really liked seeing early Neil and Liz.  They were my mother's favorite couple.  And Don is my favorite pairing for Marlena so it was good to see them.   I hated all the business stories but that could just be me.  I've never really been interested in that topic.  I did enjoy seeing young Josh Taylor in his tight jeans however, lol.  Thanks again!

Thanks for replying!

The quiet moments are so important. When soaps decided those were just boring, they signed away what made them special. And the sad thing is we get moments like that almost everywhere but soaps now.

The business stuff just feels like filler. I was hoping we might get to see Mary, as I don't know who was playing her at this time (was it the one between Barbara Stanger and Melinda Fee).

If Mary was still around, I'm fairly certain that Barbara Stanger was still playing her.  I don't think Melinda Fee showed up until 1981.  Mary had married Alex Marshall earlier in the year (and Barbara was playing her then).  But she could have left Salem for a while after Bob died.  I thought Melinda Fee was miscast as Mary.

Thanks. I have a hard time keeping track of the Marys. Of those I've seen Stanger was far and away the best. Fee, not to be rude, just looked way too old, and seemed to think she was on Dallas or Dynasty.

    • Put me in the minority in being happy about Cat not being Abby. After the two adult recasts played tag with the role, it's time for a few years of rest. I have a huge list of things I hate about RC's writing, but that choice was not one of them.
    • Except she never worked there at all and barely even knew where the Chancellor Industries plant was located  In 1980, Kay attempted to install Derek Thurston (her third husband) in a position at Chancellor Industries.  The show introduced a character named George Packard who'd supposedly been running Chancellor since Phillip's demise in 1975.  (George Packard's storyline in 1980 was attempting to keep Derek Thurston from bankrupting the company.)   We didn't hear much of anything about Chancellor Industries for the next twenty-five years.  Then, at that point, we met Eliot Hampton (?) who'd been running the company for decades and had been embezzling from it.  Jill took it upon her herself to oust Eliot Hampton (?) and take control of the company.  That's when Kay became actively involved in the management of the company.  From 1974 till 2004 Kay Chancellor was strictly a hands-off owner.  It was downright absurd that the last ten years of life, she was written as this formidable businesswoman who'd always been involved in Chancellor Industries.
    • Well, it's going to be something when he finds out the truth.  Agreed.  On that note, I can't until it all comes out. I find Lulu to be ridiculous.
    • I almost posted this because that was my initial reaction too:  this is weird/cringe, to sing around a piano after such a huge family shattering bomb was dropped.  But I got over that and just enjoyed her voice, the song and the montage we saw as everyone's emotions in the aftermath were pouring out.
    • The Equalizer original series was not a big hit yet it became a movie franchise and got a reboot series. The Equalizer reboot lasted 5 seasons, so one season longer than the original series.

His social media/IMDb doesn't have his age but from some posts he's made, I'm guessing 1989 is his birth year.
    • Here's the timeline, as I recall it being published. The WGA strike was 5/2–9/27/2023 Annalynne McCord was announced as being hired in December 2023, for a one-year contract https://deadline.com/2024/06/days-of-our-lives-when-to-expect-annalynne-mccord-peacock-1235975806/ RonC's first scripts back from the strike began airing May 31, 2024 (around Konstantine & Maggie's wedding) https://www.tvinsider.com/1137709/days-of-our-lives-writers-return-15000th-episode-storylines/ Her first air date was June 19th 2024. The actress has said she was not told who she would be playing until she started taping. RonC 's replacements were announced July 2024, with his scripts airing through April 2025 Side note: DAYS social media team seems to be playing fast and loose with BTS videos, in terms of how far in advance they film content (e.g. their April Fools' Joke videos were clearly not filmed on 4/1/25), so we shouldn't assume anyone's current status, versus those who were there nine months ago.
    • April and her husband (Draper) are the "young leads" who tie all the storyline threads together.  They're normally in the center of the action.  In this particular storyline, Draper is the attorney who represents Paige Madison.  (The district attorney, Logan Swift, has given Paige Madison "temporary immunity from prosecution" if she will lead the police to the members of the Tobias Gang who stole the firearms.  But Paige mainly just ducks bullets from various gang members who pop-up to assassinate her.)
    • It's one thing to post about a soap's rumors or gossip, which in point of fact we've all done. It's another to present yourself as the inside source who knows something to be fact that's about to break wide, then backtrack and call it just Twitter speculation. Between those two extreme poles you have to commit to one or the other. If I got something wrong, I'd say it. (Nor would I keep playing insider after what I pulled with Drake Hogestyn, which should've gotten someone permanently banned.) And regardless, you don't open with this 'news' you don't actually want to stand by yet by mocking DRW's extremely valid concerns re: how the Trina character and Tabyana Ali has been marginalized and put out to virtual pasture ever since the day NAC left. Her playing out her current contract in a C-storyline with Kai does not change that.
