Thanks! I was never really a World Turns watcher.  I just looked her up. She reminds me of Meg Foster.

I can't believe that Marland never brought her back for a short term stint as she was James' sister...(he even brought Greta back and I don't think most people knew who she was) and her contentious relationship with John.  She was probably not Marland's cup of tea as while she was a social climbing "bad girl" it was played for laughs (none of her schemes ever worked..) and Marland was not great with humor. ..(okay so it was the Dobsons so Ariel verged on camp..0

If Ariel was more campy, ATWT should've brought her back in the show's final decade when they could've used her the most.

James was still showing up in the late 90s/early-mid 2000s and having his sister there might have at least helped keep the character from going too far over the edge into caricature, which is what the James Stenbeck character ultimately morphed into in his final years on the show.

I loved Ariel and her involvement with Dusty's father. Who was her rival for Burke, I've forgotten?

Karen Haines Stenbeck Dixon (Kate McNeil) the daughter of David's "amnesia wife" Cynthia. She also had a brother Todd that appeared briefly and had been in the adult entertainment industry.

Karen married James and John and was the guardian of Dusty when Burke died.

Was Cynthia the character played by Linda Dano?  I don't think I've seen any episodes with her in them on YouTube and I think I saw everything that exists (or at least at the time - I was in the early 80's ATWT period last fall.

Actually, I don't think we ever saw Todd, but James blackmailed her as Todd was a teacher who was gay..or did gay porn.  That was pretty intense for the early 80s and while it was a plot point, it was a rare "real" moment during the Dobsons run...and helped Karen get a bit more depth.

Dano was terrible as Cynthia..just not the right role for her (would have been funny if they had made her more Felicia like, in stark contrast to boring Ellen, and she could have hung around with Lisa who would have loved to bug Ellen) but the audience knew she was not meant to be long term as David would get back to Ellen.

Burke....I mean, they just had the broads chasing him for the fortune but anyone in their right mind would have been after him!!!

Yes, it was the Linda Dano character. I'd love the chance to check out her time on ATWT.

Here's a rare brief glimpse of Linda Dano as Cynthia starting at 0.10.
