March 30, 201015 yr Member Emasculated minority male. Check. Incredibly stupid woman. Check. Bland white male propped for no reason. Check. Markko gave up a lot for Langston and yet we are supposed to be fine with her treating him like garbage just because in the show's mind he's boring. And part of making him boring means he becomes completely mute and is not allowed to have any perspective. They should have just been more honest and done what OLTL did years ago when they put Steve Holden in a coma to get Gabrielle/Max together again. Have Langston weep and wail and then try to suffocate him. Edited March 30, 201015 yr by CarlD2
March 30, 201015 yr Member So Gigi was with both Rex and Schuyler and it never came up that they were born on the same day? Give me a break. Also now they have to backtrack to explain that Mitch, who isn't Rex's father, was a perfect bone marrow match for Shane, Rex's kid. This is getting sillier and sillier. Gooood point, didn't even think of that, and apparently they didn't either. Rex has been fed so many lines of [!@#$%^&*] from Roxie it's terrible. I hate it because it fuels the character's tendency to snark out the pain.
March 30, 201015 yr Member Markko deserves better, but better is boring, or so I've been told. Maybe he'll bond with Hannah? What's her future looking like, any spoilers?
March 30, 201015 yr Member I think Markko is going to bond with a bus out of town. I thought Hannah was for Starr/Cole.

March 31, 201015 yr Member Just watched today's episode and first thing i have to say is FRANKIE!!!! I'm sorry, but as a OL viewer after Another World's cancellation...i absolutely love seeing Alice Barrett. Frankie was the best. .... anywho.... Today wasn't bad overall..at least Langston and Gigi weren't bogging the show down. Teen Jessica was annoying for me, but about the only part I didn't want to watch. Layla couldn't even save the scenes for me...and seriously people....a high school 'teacher' stripping his shirt off to make out with his girlfriend in the gym. UH HUH! Roxy killed it. Love her and the backstory of yet another babyswitch came off o.k., but how many times can you use the same plot point? (that was rhetorical!)
March 31, 201015 yr Author Member I believe David Gregory's contract is for one year, so he would last air in December if they don't fire him sooner or keep him longer. That sounds about right....I heard that he signed the contract back in October.
March 31, 201015 yr Member If Ron Carlivati isn't fired (or at least demoted) by summer, I'll be surprised. Chuck Pratt wrote less reprehensible [!@#$%^&*] for AMC, and Frons eventually had to cut him loose.

Tika Sumpter looked beautiful today. Ilene Kristen is LOVE!

March 31, 201015 yr Author Member It was listed on his IMDB account Yeah, that's right....I knew I had saw it somewhere.

March 31, 201015 yr Member Bear in mind I've been very busy, I haven't watched Tuesday yet so I am a bit fuzzy on the details of this ridiculous rewrite, but we knew that it was coming and that it wasn't what was first intended for this storyline. So now it's time for Devil's Advocate: Extreme Edition. So far, I'm sorry, but I don't see the unspeakable horror. The mediocre, the not very good, but the Cthulu, not so much. Maybe it all changed in a day and Ford is being presented as some white knight, if so I apologize in advance but so far what I see is Ford is scum, Langston is being impulsive and foolish, it's a soap. It's a shallow, often dumb story but I don't find it to be the height of misogyny or racism. Jessica fucked around on Cris with Will and it wasn't called racism, it was just a bad story (though I found her one-nighter with Will, much like Langston's current mistakes, to be painfully true to life). This is what I've said all along, for years now - something in the way we process the crap daytime has thrown at us in the last couple decades has made us increasingly intolerable of typical sexual peccadillo storylines which were once very common and acceptable in classic daytime. Maybe it started with how JFP threw Maureen Bauer under the bus for Ed after his affair, maybe that was the tipping point, but looking at the reaction to Langston, and before that Jessica's affair with Nash, I have to wonder how we'd react to, say, Karen Wolek if it had happened in 2010 instead of 1979. I'm not saying Brittany Underwood is Judith Light or that this writing is anywhere near Gordon Russell, but I think she's doing pretty well with harsh material and I find her human, if incredibly fallible. She's someone on a soap doing sinful things that she knows she shouldn't. You could find that on any of the classic soaps. The difference is we tolerated it then, and we don't now because we're always looking for the hatchet in our backs, and/or the character's backs. And perhaps the hatchet is in Langston's back for good, I don't know. I do know that I found her scenes in the last couple days, especially with Starr, to be very soapy and their most interesting in aeons. I just take the story on the day to day. To me, at least, none of this nonsense is new or special in some way. It is not new to daytime, it is not being done terribly differently; the writing for that teen story is definitely not as good as daytime's slutty glory days, it's either just passable or bad, but it's also not anywhere on par with Pratt's Zendall foibles with Aidan, Ryan, Reese and Liza to me. I mean, let's be serious for a minute. Using the Marian Colby example, Dorian is not being hauled off to the cracker barrel after trying to shoot Gigi, who she blames for, oh, I don't know, Melinda's murder. Using another, Jessica has not seduced Fish away from Kyle the night before their gay wedding. Bo has not conspired to help Rex keep Gigi locked away to avoid criminal charges while Rex plays mind games with her (he does do that without keeping her locked up like Zach, though). And this Mitch retcon is idiotic but nothing beats the Aidan Devane 180 to me. Me, I liked Sky vs. Mitch. A lot. I think the Jessica story is unwatchable, I hate that Scott Clifton's out, I hate that Rachel's out, I'm furious about Kish, I hate that all these great people are leaving, I hate that some of the wrong people are staying, I hate what the network and the show have chosen to prioritize (John, etc) instead, I hate the rewrite that once again makes Rex out to be the golden child. And I hate Ford and Hannah. But in terms of watching it, I think they've done okay with the shitstorm so far. I like Alison's reign of terror and I like the whole Sky/Mitch crisis. I liked Kelly and Todd going to Statesville. I've seen a lot better, but I've seen a whole hell of a lot worse than this. I'm just being honest. I don't know what else to tell you, I didn't expect this to be watchable but up to Tuesday, at least, it is, for me. Call me crazy, I've heard it all before. It's terrible what's happening to the show, I don't hold out much hope for its future prospects as they are currently laid out, but to watch it happen so far, it could've been executed a lot worse IMO.
