To be fair, though, I wouldn't expect Nichols, or anyone, to say, "Hey, this show sux, but it's a paycheck!" Was he a little much w/ the praise and adulation? Probably. But I'd never expect any actor coming aboard to be even lukewarm in their sentiments. After all, this news is supposed to bring viewers to the show, right?

That was beyond wretched, one of many trashed to prop Nik/Emily.

I don't even know if the writing for Stefan earlier on was that great. His first year was good, but then the Stefan/Katherine stuff which was so dreary, the endlessly stalled, glacial Stefan/Laura relationship, the "I'm his father, no his uncle, no his father, no his uncle" nonsense with Nik, Stefan faking his death for a Luke murder trial, the bizarre Stefan/Chloe storyline with Helena in a catsuit trying to kill psychic friend Chloe...

Stephen was a whole lot better than the writing was most of the time.
