COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – U.S. Figure Skating and U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame Chair of Electors Dr. Lawrence Mondschein announced today that the 1961 U.S. World Figure Skating Team will comprise the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame Class of 2011. The induction ceremony is tentatively scheduled to take place Friday, Jan. 28 at the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Greensboro, N.C.

“It is appropriate that on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the loss of the 1961 World Team that it be the sole inductee into the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame Class of 2011,” Mondschein said. “The dreams and hopes of the team have been realized by U.S. skaters at the World Championships, Olympic Winter Games and international skating events around the globe over the past 50 years. The spirit of the 1961 World Team continues to live on today and will be showcased by those skaters vying for national titles at the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.”

Included in the inductees are 18 athletes as well as the accompanying coaches, officials, judges and family members who perished on Sabena Airlines Flight 548 en route to the World Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia.

“The U.S. Figure Skating Board of Directors applauds the nomination of the 1961 World Team to the hall of fame,” U.S. Figure Skating President Patricia St. Peter said. “We unanimously concur with the electors’ recommendation, and we look forward to honoring the team at the 2011 U.S. Championships in Greensboro.”

Details on the induction ceremony will be announced following the release of the final schedule for the 2011 U.S. Championships. Family members and descendents of the 1961 World Team will be invited to participate in the activities surrounding the hall of fame induction. Please contact Linda Famula, World Figure Skating Museum & U.S. Hall of Fame marketing and public relations manager, at 719.635.5200 for more information.

Some lucky people already have their tickets for Rise - I really hope I can see it - hope we don't a ice storm or a foot of snow Feb 17, 2011 and it does go to the 1961 Memorial fund which has helped every U.S. skater since 1961 and the crash that took the entire U.S. team lives.

    • I’m trying to think which actors VW were working with at the time, and none of them had been there for a while. Even like Mac and Ada didn’t have that big of a part in Rachel’s storyline.  And Jamie was involved with all that movie stuff.
    • Brooke did ads before ATWT too. That probably helped get her the job. After ATWT she seemed to branch more into hosting, along with ads.  I think I saw Kelley in an ad or two, but you're right she wasn't on as much.
    •   Thanks for sharing these. I wonder if Charles might have been in the running for Adam. I know Preacher was a bit of a bad boy at times on EON, but Neal seemed to be a step down, and Robert Lupone had played a similar part on AMC. Given the huge cast turnover at this point I wonder who thought they had been there long enough to go.  Laura Malone/Chris Rich would get a remote within the next year.
    • Interesting.  It seems to allude to that statement that Warren Burton made around that time about some AW actors getting special treatment.  I wonder who was resentful about not getting to go.
    • Good morning, boys!  I figured that it was time that our Gio was introduced into the hotness thread

    • Under all of Madonna's social media today there is this wave of negative, toxic, absurd comments by Lady Gaga fans telling her how Gaga surpassed her in concert in Copacabana. I mean... Who the hell cares? Why are these fan communities so freaking toxic??? I'm sure Madonna doesn't care... But still. Have some respect for M. Leave her social media alone. Go cheer Gaga and be happy. Why come and spew hate on M??? Crazy world.
    • FYI, again, Ruth/Letitia is not in either of these 2 episodes. So that concludes the 4 episodes I had from Nov. 1983. I don't have the October episodes.
    • Eddie has begun uploading the 1990 episodes. I'm so happy about that. I was mindfully taking a break till there's plenty of episodes I can binge watch when I feel like it. Now that 1989 is complete... I can't wait to press play on February 1989 and resume where I left off.

Me when someone asks me to be proper and demure.
    • This is just a guess but I feel like the fact that they keep mentioning her dead husband is for a reason. We know Martin has a secret that likely involved someone dying. Martin's victim could be Alan which Leslie/Dana either knows about or finds out and she uses that to blackmail the family into letting her crimes slide.
