My question would be what "on screen romance"? Ol' Hillary was friend zoned from the beginning (from what I can tell) and Kelly was clueless about her crush as he obsessed over Morgan.

  • Thanks. I suppose I'd have to check the episodes but I was surprised she was in so many. She played the maid, Mrs. Johnson, on DS (and a few other roles - usually religious maniacs who met bad ends).

  • I still think it's the biggest crime in Daytime Emmy history that BM was never nominated for her work on GL. She had four consecutive nominations for Another World (1977-1980) but maybe those losses s

And then Hillary ended up being one of Kelly and Morgan's biggest cheerleaders. Because that happens frequently in life. 😂

Ha..yes, in Marland's world..its the only polite thing to do! And since Kelly and Morgan and Hillary were "good" that meant they were polite and held no animosity. One of the reasons I loved Long and Curlee and JFP era was that good characters would snark on other good characters and people would roll their eyes at "Always" while not actively being mean to the characters. That went away again with Rauch when everyone had to think "Jeva" were the second coming.

There's a lot of unhealthy obsessing going on in the early 80s. At least Vanessa got sex despite it all. Hillary was a freakin' NUN. (I'm not sure she had sex between Roger and Jim.)

You forgot Derek Colby. I think they even lived together briefly.

She and Tony had a weird thing. She was probably the only woman in town he didn't sleep with but he seemed to like her the most. She never shook Derek off completely during that time and ended up with neither one.

They dated, and you'd assume have sex, ...but....*shrug* ...if they did it must not've been very good. She also briefly dates Josh (they go to Quint and Nola's engagement, and there's maybe something going on, but it's hard to tell.)

Ugh...yeah. You wonder why people didn't think Josh was just crazy for STAYING involved with the woman.

McTavish had people saying things..Nola saying that Josh and Annie better lay low now Reva is back in town, and Van and Lillian and Annie saying mean things about her. The bad thing is, people were too mean (Rick sees she is alive and she wants a hug or acknowledgement but he just walks away is weird..if I saw even one of my insane freinds back from the dead I would be all over them. I did like that McTavishs Van was not bowing down to Reva.

Van and Annie, yes. But Lillian? Who was in her bridal party for her aborted wedding to Kyle? Who dated her dad? WTH?

I can't recall any history of animosity between Reva and Rick. That's...strange.

I gather that Marland just never knew what to do with her. But unlike Kobe, he had no interest in kicking Bauers off the show.

He was probably just mad that he wasn't involved in faking her death...

Lillian being involved in the bitchiness made her look awful.

Some of the available 1982 episodes have a lot of angst from Hilary, she and Tony are clearly meant to be pulled toward each other as she dates Derek. Derek is insecure about her relationships with Tony and Kelly. On paper this should be compelling, but she has no chemistry with any of them and I just go through Tony scenes in the Marland years wanting someone to kick his ass.

Of any of the men in this group I thought she worked best with Derek.

There's a scene I find offputting where she berates Morgan over not understanding how much Kelly loves her and how noble he is. It's very slanted writing and is part of why that triangle feels dishonest. Two mentally unstable young women are fixated on a man who is about ten years their senior. He already crossed serious lines with Morgan and made her problems worse. Yet he was written as a god.
