The writing for women is atrocious on this show, and in daytime in general. You'd think with a female HW, we'd have some independent women. Instead, they're all weak and see men as the be all and end all of their happiness. The only exception is Katherine at this point.

Mark, this memorial day eppy WAS quite different form ones in the past. They usually were more solemn in tone, you most always had a scene of Kay in front of Phillip's gravestone, and usually there were flashbacks. Today was UNUSUAL in that thye dropped a bomb on a HOLIDAY (Jack finding out about Billy boinking Sharon) they have NEVER dropped a bomb on a holiday before. All my time growing up, my mother would miss Y&R on holidays cause she was cooking for get togethers or whatever... and she'd say.. "Oh it's a holiday, theyr'e not gonna do anything today." But boy have they changed their game plan! I think a scene with JILL at Phillips grave would have been appropriate and made it seem much more "classic Y&R".

The Winter's used to be one of my favorite parts of this show. That has definitely changed.

Shirtless Kevin

Nick is a punk ass bitch! He just cannot tell the truth. I really need something unpleasant to happen to him. Maybe Victor screwing him over again or something.

Billy is a jackass, but I like him and Chloe together.

Loved how happy Noah was when he heard about the baby, but letting him think the kid is Jack's was kind of  Maybe waiting until you know who the father is would have been a better plan Sharon.

CF continues to do better and is definitely looking better.

What exactly did happen? I don't understand why she isn't getting spousal support. That blog is pretty funny though. She is so out of touch with the world and has no idea that she's painting herself in a very unsympathetic way.

I think Brenda does come off a little nuts, but she's better off speaking unfiltered instead of trying to be more coherent or bland, because people can sense her true emotions. There seems to be a lot of pain and I think this draws people more into rooting for her. I also think the Internet/blog/Youtube era has been a boon to her because she just seems more alive this way, I think she works better in this medium than when I would just see her venting in old interviews.

Here's a new interview with Thom Bierdz. The writer is very thorough and Thom goes into detail about his life. There are some spoilers, and potential spoilers, although Thom says he knows little about what is going to happen.

I agree with every word here. It was a strong episode that accomplished a lot. Chloe's "tough love" stance with Billy is winning me over. Kevin was nice to see...but I also like that they will have some continuing consequences.

Warning, NO spoilers below. In fact, their OPPOSITE. But I am speculating based on a Thom Bierdz interview, and I intuit I am right, so skip this post if you don't even want intuitive speculation that might be right....

Although Bierdz was very careful to say nothing, I feel he told us volumes in one section:

I believe that has told us EVERYTHING. Some people cringed when we speculated about this apparent story direction a few weeks back...and wondered how it could be plausibly told...and felt in some ways it might be damaging..but it seems pretty "locked in" to me based on the above. Sorry to be so indirect.

I think, like Lily constantly cooing about how much she trusts Cane, this feels like a very obvious setup for a mixed-pairs story.

THAT SAID, they still have not dealt with Jana's headaches. I truly feel Love Story coming on, and while I love Emily O'Brien, I can't WAIT to see Greg Rikaart rock such a tale. Moreover, leaving Kevin a little angry and available again...well...I could lead some terrific places.

Wonderful. Just what this show needs is one more person who doesn't want to act. I'm about finished with these people who just want to show up and be themselves. Someday I'll learn to stop reading interviews. I rarely come away happy with what I hear.

    • I tried following the news in Los Angeles at https://laist.com (independent public radio and news) They had up-to-the minute accurate info during the wildfires in January. There's no video, no impact to my mind as to what's happening. Trying other outlets, to get the truth, but it's hard.
    • That's a bit murky since that happened during a writers' strike. Assuming Kristen Marie had a 2-year contract she left about when her contract would have expired and Sharlene and Josie showed up right before that. Lemay was officially credited as HW from September 1988 but it seems very probable that his anticipated tenure influenced events that happened during the strike which started in April.
    • I've seen so many posters over the years who are bright, creative, well-versed in soap history, and who care deeply about the integrity of the genre. I'd put the shows' chances in their hands a lot faster than I would allow any of the "usual suspects" to take control of the dramas they've already helped decimate. When I returned to university in the 1980s, I created a bible for a new soap and presented it in my screenwriting class. It was in reaction to how badly I saw the network shows being butchered at the time. The creative process was thrilling; a total joy, and I still smile when I remember the positive feedback I received from the professor and my fellow students. I was used to seeing written commentary from professors on my work. This one wrote me a long, complimentary note on the final page of the bible, but also graded it 97%, A+. I was beaming ear to ear for days!

    • Thanks. I do wonder if Rose was meant to be more given the caliber of actress they hired. I remembered Sara and Peggy staying longer as they were still on when Soapnet started their repeats. I wonder if that was part of the reason they brought Jake's brother in.
    • Speculation about Missy Reeves' potential evolution on basic civil rights doesn’t change my opinion of her. My view is shaped entirely by her public social media presence—which I find unpalatable—and I have no interest in learning more beyond that. I simply liked Jennifer’s hair and dress. That’s as far as my admiration goes.

    • Cheryl was gone before Lemay came back but I agree with your thinking that he would rather a character from a family he introduced to the show than a family he did not originate.  I remember reading somewhere in the early 90's probably after DS left as writer, their was an either a writer or a producer who made a comment that their intent was bring the McKinnon family back to AW.  Would have made sense for the newer viewers from the 80's.  Much like Lemay's attempt to bring the Frames back from his writing in the 70's in his 1988 return
    • DePriest left in January 1988. According to the AWHP, Rose last appeared nearly a year before in February 1987 while both Sara and Peggy appeared as late as October 1987.
    • Annie was not brought in as an antagonist for Reva. Reva wasn’t even on the canvas when Annie first appeared in late 1994.
    • The speculation……….very entertaining.
    • I had forgotten that several Days stars came out strong against Melissa. Good for them!
