ATWT: Time To Get Your Crap Together!

With GL's cancellation, why isn't P&G/CBS doing anything to save their other show?

GL's cancellation will probably free up more money for ATWT, and more focus as well.

ATWT is probably living on more borrowed time than any other soap at the moment, it's time for some changes to be made!

Suggest what changes you'd like to happen on the show in this thread and more...

The answer is, no, they don't care. And they won't. That's another shameful disgrace. This show was The Class earlier this decade; nothing could beat it in terms of quality, writing, talent and appeal. In Sheffer's heyday, I was horribly jealous that it was opposite OLTL. Today it is not watchable.

I predict that at ATWT they'll wait until it's too late like GL to listen to fans and improve the show. It'll be interesting to see if rumors are true and if some GL characters come over to ATWT. They have such a weak cast on that show I wouldn't mind Otalia, some Spauldings and maybe Bizzie spicing things up.

Sheffer's first 6 months to a year was good, but I thought the rest was unwatchable. He didn't like the vets, he turned characters dark without figuring out how to balance them, he didn't know how to tell stories, his history rewrites were laughable (I still can't believe what they did to Dusty). I'm just glad he has someone to hold him back at Y&R, because he was even worse at DAYS.

If they cared about saving ATWT they'd get rid of Passante, at the very least, if not Goutman as well. I don't think CBS cares. It's just more space they can fill with cheaper programming, but they don't want to cancel both soaps at the same time and permanently drive those viewers away.

No to Otalia...please no.

Glad to see you start the topic Alvin. But nothing will be done. They had so much time to make changes and nothing has happen. At least I will have time to do other things once the show is finished. And of course spend even less time here at SON...LOL.

It may free up more focus time for ATWT, but GL's cancellation adds production costs to ATWT. Telenext/P&G or whatever they call themselves provided some services to both soaps. Economies of scale meant sharing those resources made them cost less for both soaps. Now ATWT has to shoulder all those costs alone. Essentially Telenext overheads were covered by 2 soap's licencing fees - that just got halved (or close to halved).

I'm pretty sure DAYS will be the next to go. ATWT can still get it together. Maura's maternity leave will not help, but the returns of Rosanna and Damian could, IF they are handled right. Now is not the time for timidity. Do something bold, like bringing Martha Byrne back, reuniting Katie and Simon or create an umbrella storyline, like the baby switch from a few years back.

You would think Goutman would get with the program after today's events. But I highly doubt it. Today's show was still bad. Paul's wild plan to get Meg back for the zillionth time. It is so boring. I dont care for Paul anymore.

E News reported that P&G is shopping GL around to another network. For those who don't know, it was CBS decision, not P&G... What's really crazy, many networks are looking for a show that averages 2 million viewers.

P&G is doing everything in their power to keep GL on the air while BLOOM is concerned about Frons stealing GL stars.

It's not gonna work. It's like AW. Same story, different day.

I think it's also better to just cancel it once instead of giving fans hope and than cancelling it for a second time. Just give GL one HELL of a send-off and I'll be satisfied.

It's sad to see ATWT like this. The ATWT that was watchable was when IMO Sheffer was writing.

I think ATWT will be the next soap to go because DAYS has been actually increasing viewership. But I really hope ATWT stays on the air because I want ATWT to get better and with

I really hope things can go up from there.

Guys, get real. I watched GL die. A painful death.

ATWT is next. They may have been renewed for another year, but it was without a budget. ATWT will look even worse next year than GL did in its final days. ATWT is facing huge budget cuts. It won't be pretty.

    • Normally, the end of every Friday episode contains the "a Look Ahead" preview for the "next week".  That same preview video is also uploaded online separately, and it gets posted on the spoiler threads.  Thursday May 8 was preempted, which shifted all following episodes to the next airdate. The "look ahead" preview was attached to the end of episode that would have aired Friday May 9, but that episode was shifted to broadcast on Monday May 12. However, the Monday May 12 episode was accidentally uploaded early to CTV and CBS/paramount, so that's the only reason why the "look ahead" preview was available on Friday May 9 to post on the spoiler thread at the normal Friday time.  As you noticed, there was no "look ahead" next week preview attached to the end of the Friday May 16 episode. Instead, the end of Friday May 16 episode had full credits -- including all actors, crew, and staff. The show is still off from the May 8 preemption, because the "look ahead" preview was attached to the end of Monday May 19.
    • From a sadly strongly paywalled story at Breaker Media:
    • I would test Derek again with Hayley.. or with Vanessa ( she would totally be ga ga over a fireman).    Dani does tend to make things all about her, but I viewed the Dani/Chelsea element to be a pale version of the Erica/Bianca dynamic.
    • 5-16   Ooooo...no next week promo? Interesting.   Outside of the acting, it was a meh week for me. It's moving beyond playing the beats in the Liam Dying storyline to just repeating dialogue, rinse, and repeating said dialogue. Yeeeeah no.   I guess the best thing...for me...coming out of it was Carter overhearing Hope talk to Liam as if she was getting back together with him. And then he beamlined over to Daphne with the quickness. That's going to be a mess once he realize what's really going on. So...this show is being powered by a Hope/Carter/Daphne triangle? Who knew?
    • This topic has probably already been done, but what year do you consider to be the best year/season of the telecast?
    • Going back to the Reilly days, so many Salem residents have killed, tried to kill and/or threatened to kill people with virtually no fallout for them. It's bothered me for decades. With the new writers, it seems there might actually be actual consequences to Xander's violence this time. I hope it's not resolved quickly. Paul and Linsey both did a great job today.
    • I’d like to see Ashley paired with a fatal gunshot.
    • I like the twist of Drew framing Tracy, but now I'm sad that it deprived us of the sight of Jane Elliot performing "These Boots are Made for Walkin," which is such a perfect Tracy Quartermaine song.
