No, I'm enjoying the show. First time in a while I've really just enjoyed. Yea, it's not perfect but it's fun to watch for me.

I also stay stay out of most of the threads-I'm enjoying the show, and want to stay out of the negative. I know a fair amount of other people thinking the same fact, which is why it seems to be only people hating.

AMC is so much better. GOSH! Just because the ratings dropeed doesn't mean the show sucks. EVERYONE DROPPED. I find it sad that people can be this ignorant and say "Oh the HW sucks and the show is dark....." just because the ratings dropped. Daytime itself is going down and IMO its not looking a whole lot better.

As for GL fans I am not trying to be mean but I think GL is going to 1.7 and thats it. It's only a matter of time where they will start to decline. I want GL to beat GH and those shows but that's never going to happen.

Its been about 6 months now since Pratt has been headwriter at AMC. I waited to give him that much time before I gave my opinion. I do like some things he has brought to the show such as more Opal and a revived Erica and he did kill Babe.

However, for me the bad far outweighs the good. IMO the show is too dark with too much death. Opal is there for the humor but there is no romance on the show. We aren't seeing couples fall in love. Rinks came to town already in love. I think that relationship would have fared much better if the audience was allowed to see why and how the couple came to be. Rylee lust and sex doesn't count for me.

Too much stuff happens off screen like spermgate. That is one huge cluster of a story that has not gone over well at all. Jessie's second family is another scenario of something huge that happened off screen.

I can't believe I'm saying this about a soap but the pace for AMC is too fast. Josh's death was done in 2 days and it should have been handled in a lot more time. There was no funeral and he has only been mentioned a few times since his death.

He is also recycling stories. JR is drunk. All signs point to another Zach/Kendall/Ryan triangle. That has already been done so why revisit it.

The David return was also botched for me. David is a very multilayered character but Pratt is choosing to show most of the bad side. There are a few rare scenes that make me realize what David once was like his scenes with Erica and Brot.

We can all agree to disagree but I'm in the camp that is not a fan of Pratt's work.

It really sucks that OLTL seems stuck in the ratings cellar......but it's not that much lower than most of the rest of the other 7 soaps.

Does anyone remember just low the ratings for Passions and Port Charles got before NBC and ABC cancelled them?

It's a sad day when a 1.9 is typical for soaps.....just sad.

dc cubs, It doesn't matter to me what camp anyone is in. I just know where I am and even though AMC is not perfect and does have bad that I ahve pointed out too. I too hated the pacing of the Josh story and some other stuff. but what has been brought after the disastrous turns of McT and B&E are so much better for me.

As to falling in love - Aidan & Annie rule that out. We have watched them slowly find each other. And that has not been thrown together. It is gradual and I am liking that. Whether they will stay together - who knows.

As to some of the other complaints, I can understand your view point but 2 of them I can't say are Pratt's fault. It is hard to do anything with characters like Bianca when they don't stay around in Pine Valley anymore. You cannot tell a story about someone falling in love when you can only get them for short stays. And Eden has said on DC or somewhere that it is the way she wants it. It has been since she left the show. She is only interested in short stays esp. with the cooking show they have and Imaginary Bitches.

As to Jesse, I blame that on B&E too. They didn't even deal at all with what happened to Jesse in the 20 plus years he was on the run. You can't deal with what happened in the 20 years someone has been gone. What was Pratt supposed to do forget too that Jesse has a past during those 20 years? Days tried to do that with Steve/Patch too and many fans kept asking the question so often about what Patch/Nick did all those years? And finally they dealt with it.

How are writers supposed to deal with what happened during those years? Jesse's family had to happen offscreen because he was offscreen. No writer - not even Pratt could deal with that. To the rest of the writers they all left Jesse dead. B&E decided to revive him. They created the 20 plus years of his life that happened off screen.

So none of that I can really blame on Pratt. I say as far as Bianca goes they need to recast her or just leave her life in limbo. As long as she lives in Paris whatever happens with Bianca has to happen offscreen because it is hard to move any kind of story for her while she is living in Paris. Her life can't stop and start every time she comes in and out of Pine Valley.

I do agree that AMC is a little dark right now. I don't think it is any more dark that B&E's first few months with the Crash story. I hated that time. It was way too gloomy.

As far as love and romance some new couples have really got to get started soon because AMC's couples have really gotten stale. Tad & Krystal were in a loveless marriage. Zach & Kendall have been so badly written for so long and none of their real problems addressed like Zach's selfishness and Kendall's ignoring him. They have just been there. And half of the audience doesn't even like them as a couple. There are very few in betweens with Zach and Kendall. You either love them or you hate them as a couple if you are an AMC fan. There are very very few people that fall in the middle with them. Ryan and Annie have been screwed up for so long now. They either need to decide to go with them and commit to them or just stop it once and for all.

Pratt needs to work and he needs to improve in several areas, but I still will take him over B&E or McT any day.

Sounds like the same situation as ATWT. The stories move too fast. You can not watch the show for a couple of days and people will be married, in the hospital, or fallen into and out of love already. Kind of defeats the purpose of a soap - if I wanted self contained episodes, I'd watch a sitcom.

I've got some interesting local ratings for soaps which I will reveal inside of the next ratings thread for the week of February 16-22, 2009.

The ratings are for Tuesday February 24, 2009 in the TOP 5 markets in the country (NY, LA, CHI, PHI, DAL) along with Indianapolis and Ft. Myers, Floria. So you'll be able to see how soaps do on the east coast, midwest, west coast, and in the south. Trust me once you see them there's a huge difference in how soaps are watched in each region of the country.

One thing you'll notice is how ABC Soaps are watched more on the east coast more than CBS Soaps. CBS Soaps are heavily watched in the south. You'll also notice how after 9am or 10am, the hut levels start going down after most of the people head for work. That means soaps are doing the best they can in low hut level timeslots.

Here's New York as a sneak peak:

Time Net Program NY (representing East Coast market)

--------------------------------------------------------------

EARLY MORNING

--------------------------------------------------------------

7:00a ABC Good Morning America 4.1/14

7:00a CBS Early Show 1.3/ 4

7:30a CBS Early Show 1.3/ 4

7:00a NBC Today 3.9/13

9:00a NBC Today 2.4/ 9

10:00a NBC Today 2.0/ 7

7:00a FOX Good Day (local) 1.2/ 4

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DAYTIME

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1:00p ABC All My Children 3.2/10

2:00p var ABC One Life to Live 2.9/ 9

3:00p var ABC General Hospital 2.5/ 7

12:30p var CBS Young & the Restless 3.0/10

1:30p var CBS Bold & the Beautiful 2.1/ 7

2:00p var CBS As the World Turns 0.9/ 3

10:00a var CBS Guiding Light 1.0/ 3

1:00p var NBC Days of Our Lives 1.4/ 4

Soaps are doing up to par with what other shows are doing in daytime and even a little better.
