Members SOAPSFOREVER
Often soaps don't submit anything, or they miss the deadline, or whatever. One Life and World Turns could have been the only submissions this year, who knows? For many years Y&R never submitted for the WGA awards. B&B on occasion does. It's the same with other shows, too. Members JONNYSBRO
If it were up to the WGA all the fi-core/scabs would be fired and not allowed to write anymore. That can't happen because they still are part of the WGA they just lose all voting privilages. Most of what the WGA was fighting for was not daytime related. Also Guza/Kriezman would not go fi-core. I was surprised Guza kept his WGA status. Ron Carlivati/Jean Passanante were very much for the WGA, there stance was not backing down at all. In fact ABC was threatening Ron's job at one point, saying Gary would take over permanently if he did not return. Of course ABC loves Ron so much they were happy to have him back. I honestly think OLTL or Y&R will sweep the emmys no matter where they air. Carlivati will win the WGA award, I can't see how he cannot win. Administrator Toups Posted December 9, 2008 Author Administrator Share Posted December 9, 2008 Yup, you're exactly right. I wonder if that happened this year.
Members MarkH
I do not think they will air. Like the final SOD award, I think the event will happen in a low key way or not at all, be announced in the press, and then will never happen again. (Or, it it happens, it will be a totally paper or low key process, like the Tech Emmys)
Members brimike
The WGA loves their social issue stuff, and if ATWT submitted the Parker/Liberty sex stuff (as I suspect), that explains it. REMEMBER - the WGA awards only read the written word, they do not watch tapes. They don't know anything about whether the acting is good, or what it looks like on camera. It's all about the stories told, and the dialogue that's written. And the variations on a theme of teen sexuality from all different angles is the kind of stuff these judges' panels love. Not sure about OLTL's submissions, but they've had some strong scripts. I'm not surprised. I agree the Bell shows are probably done in the eyes of the WGA awards. I'm actually surprised GL didn't get one. Even though I can't stand what's happened to that show, they usually manage to score this one somehow. I figured GH wouldn't get it, only because they don't really have the kinds of stories the writers' guild loves. It's usually about either A ) breaking the mold with something fresh and different in terms of episode structure, or B ) a cutting edge social issue multi-generational social issue storyline. AMC probably could have gotten one with the tail end of the cochlear implant stuff, but since E&B went fi-core, that's off the table. Sadly, this award (in the daytime category at least) now comes with too many strings attached for it to be taken seriously. Another shame.
Members jfung79
Jill Lorie Hurst mentioned to the bloggers who visited the GL set that the show did not submit for the WGA awards this year.
Administrator Toups Posted December 14, 2008 Author Administrator Share Posted December 14, 2008 That's interesting that they chose to not submit. I wonder why.
Members Jonathan
They probably couldn't afford the entry fees. I'm not sure about the WGA, but the Emmys cost a few hundred dollars to submit just one name. So if you're a writing team of say 10 then you're paying $X times 10. Just think about how much Y&R spends on entry fees.
Members brimike
ROFLMAO!!! As far as I know, as long as you're a member in good standing, the submission to the WGA awards is free. NATAS/ATAS and the Emmys, however, are a different story. But as long as you pay your dues, you can submit to the WGA. Although the perverse part of me does laugh at the prospect of not being able to afford the entrance fee. LOL!

Members rangethatrover
Amen. Hell, Sadly, even Dena Higley has better ratings than both these shows. The guild wants her head on a platter- Even she is probably sinickering at these nominations. It should be Y&R and OLTL. This is comical. Just take the category away. Members Soapsuds
OLTL is a joke. I saw yesterday's show and it was awful. From David's pathetic scenes to Bess...LOL..OMG and I thought Jean was a hack writer. Ron is so overrated. OLTL still stinks in the ratngs. Awards dont mean squat. Members rangethatrover
Well we must be watching 2 different shows. ] I think OLTL has been outstanding since the fall. This week has not been impressive though. I am not enjoying Y&R either this week thus far.
Members Dr. Jay S.W.
Ron shut the hell up with your hating!!!!! Range ignore Ron. watching a show 1 day a week, (for Ron more like once a month) doesnt give you enough details to make a determination about how the show is. Stick to what you watch every day Cameron, ATWT. A total Waste of Time
