If they lose reelection they know they'll get cushy jobs out of this.

Exactly.  Between their unpopular tax agenda and their defeats in both Virginia and Alabama, many within the GOP who rely on corporate donors might be hatching contingency plans should the 2018 midterm elections not turn out well for them.

I just wonder how much of this wretched tax bill can be fixed the next time a Dem is in the White House. Even if we take Congress in 2018, Trump (or Pence or Hatch or who ever will be left standing) will just veto anything.

True.  But, OTOH, since Trump is, well, Trump, I wouldn't put it past him to acquiesce to a Democrat-led Congress and claim publicly that he never loved the GOP anyway.  Know what I mean?

We've had worse hands.

A "Democratic tsunami" sounds awfully nice...but I am so worried about getting my hopes up.  I mean, it LOOKS like the tide might turn next year against the GOP.  But there's probably an equal chance of the GOP bouncing back somehow before then.

I read some tweets from black voters in Alabama who complained about Jones' campaign doing a poor job with the community, and making it clear they were just voting against Moore. In a way I feel like it was unfair to take black voters for granted and just assume fear and anger toward Moore was enough. Yet I also wonder how much he could do, realistically. And I wonder if he should do more, even though he is likely losing in 2 years, to help encourage these loyal voters who have to go through so much to even cast a vote, for the sake of the party in Alabama down the line.

He absolutely should. The democratic party overall should.  Some of those long lines people where standing in reminded me once again how unfair things are.  Charles Barkley was right that the democrats should be doing more for POC and poor white people.

I also agree with you that the democratic party should probably give up on some people,  poor white evangelicals in particular.  If they want to live and die over the abortion issue I don't think anyone can stop them. Hopefully, Jane is right and more people will wake up.

Susan Sarandon is getting her ass dragged all over Twitter. The catalyst? A "Thank You" tweet to African Americans for the special election results in Alabama.

God, what a tone-deaf person she is!  The sub-tweets are a scream though!

She's gotten so out of touch it's not even funny. 😨

[!@#$%^&*] Paul Ryan knows he's going to get voted out and is running away with his tail between his legs

I'd guess he's more aware that he won't be able to keep his Speaker job for much longer. He may have a primary challenge but I think he could survive it as he hasn't angered the base the way Cantor and Boehner did. I don't think he'd last as Speaker much longer though. The so-called freedom caucus and their endless tantrums and power moves have made the Speaker's job a poisoned chalice and that will cause more and more problems in future.

Rumor of the night, grain of salt: If a big story drops tomorrow, it may be about Ryan allegedly being implicated in illegal contributions from Russia.
