Half or more of the country worships Trump. They see him as what they need and want him to be. And those who don't still vote for him to go along to get along. Trump's campaign was heavily about immigration and the economy - many are suckered into supporting the GOP on those issues. Trans issues I don't believe are as popular with the public but even that might get fervent voters out.

This country is broken, very possibly beyond repair. I hope Harris wins tonight - that's all that matters, much as I really was hoping for more in the House and holding on to the Senate - but even if she does (and at this point it's going to take a lot to certify even if she does win), I don't know if anything can fix what America is today...and some would say has been all along.

And of course there are the people who want to vote but are stopped at every turn by the GOP. From North Carolina:

I think that's why some are noticing the increased vote for Trump in the suburbs and rural areas. It's awful to say the country will only vote for a white man, especially since Obama won twice, but I don't think that country exists anymore. I hope they prove me wrong.

They probably are, but Trump has always overperformed when on the ballot. He is just a ready-made candidate for a lot of people, horrifying as that is.

Barack Obama @BarackObama
It took several days to count every ballot in 2020, and it’s very likely we won’t know the outcome tonight either. So please keep a few things in mind as you make your voice heard today:

– Thousands of election workers around the country are working hard today. Respect them. Thank them.

– Don’t share things before checking your sources.

– Let the process run its course. It takes time to count every ballot.

Not white man but men. In 2008, when Hillary and Obama were running in the primary, there was a very thoughtful column in one of the Chicago papers about the primary written by a very well respected retired journalist in Chicago. It was about the primary and she indicated that it would be harder for a woman to get elected than a black man. It wasn't racist or misogynistic in it's analysis, it just layed out the potential handicaps for each. Now whether she was correct at that time(2008 was not 2016), and would Hilary have won, who knows. It certainly would have been more likely in 2008 than in 2016, due to the financial collapse on GWB's watch.

I was reading something on the NBC site also about the fact that some exit polls in Milwaukee is showing that Trump increased his margins with male black voters. Now don't take that as an overall increase, it was an observation, but if that turns out to be the case, it's going to be time for some serious analysis by the democrats whether Harris wins or not.
