One of our first post-Sunday polls:

I want to find a non-crass way to say this, and maybe there isn't one. But I will say that in addition to the absolute horror of this for women in Iowa, IMO this could not come at a worse moment for Trump/Vance.

I mean, I wasn't gonna say it but it was my first thought in the immediate moment. God bless Robin.

When I watched the footage, I said, "There's something a little too 'Taxi Driver' about this."

(IYKYK)

I don't understand why we must tear down women (and WOC, in particular) who use sex as a form of currency.  Like, women shouldn't be allowed to exploit their assets in order to get ahead?  If anything, the fact that, time and time again, women are reduced to using their so-called "feminine wiles" in order to advance themselves in business and other worlds that are dominated by white men should be an indictment against the system itself, not against the women who often have no other choice.

This makes me feel very nostalgic for KNOTS LANDING again for some reason.

Also intriguing (Biden was down by 5 there):

What's more compelling re: this issue IMO is Kamala's work on behalf of sex workers for years back in the day. The horseshoe left tried to make this an issue the other night implying she was a trafficker and got heavily blown out by the rest of Twitter over it.

Yeah, I think I read something in reference to that last night.  Apparently, SF law enforcement officials were upset with Kamala Harris for years, because she, as D.A., would turn loose sex workers they had caught in undercover stings?

Ultimately, I believe most who go into that side of the sex industry do so due to pressure or out of necessity, and not necessarily because they genuinely want to make a living off their bodies, so to speak*.  So, I can't say I understand law enforcement officials' frustration there, lol.

(And just where do I get such a notion, you ask?  Two words: Karen. Wolek.)

Enten seems to have some personal dislike for Vance based on his tone, which makes me wonder just how vile he must be in person.

You can see just who he is meant to appeal to in stories like this. I wonder how much Trump wishes he had chosen Tim Scott. He never would as he won't want a black man near such a high level of power.

Many of these girls are running away from home because of sexual abuse.

As for using feminine whiles, I had to do it one time just to get pain relief during child birth I kid you not. Not exactly in a sexual way, but the nurses told me the anesthesiologist was egotistical and a misogynist.  I had to flatter him and fluff up his ego to get what I need in time. It still makes me sick to think about it nine years later. Sometimes a woman's gotta do what a woman's gotta do. So far every criticism of Harris just makes me like her and relate to her more.

Thank you for listing his credentials. My main worry is if they just choose for optics but have someone who is steamrolled over by Vance because he is so focused on the facade of trying to get bipartisan support which I'm not sure is there anymore (I am not entirely sure how many of the voters they think he might reach who aren't already voting for the ticket will get over the sexism or racism innate in their decision). I think there are a few similar options who might have more of a reach beyond bio, but admittedly it's going to be tough no matter who she chooses.

Yeah I hear you on that.  Mark Kelly seems like a wonderful human, but I have no idea what he is like as a public speaker.

One list of potential VPs mentioned Minnesota governor Tim Walz.  I hadn't heard of him before.  His wiki page makes him sound competent.

But can he truly contribute to the ticket to win?

^^ At least that concern sounds more measured than those that claim that because Kelly is bald he won’t be a good VP candidate because Americans don’t like bald men.

Did anyone read Hillary Clinton’s Op-Ed article today? It’s probably the only article worth reading in the Times these days.

    • Did I ever say that? I actually don't want to, but I have no problem doing so when I feel it's truly warranted. Case in point. I'll be more respectful about how you're involving yourself in these kind of discussions when you consider doing the same. Believe me when I tell you the way you attempt to dress up this attitude has placated no one, and this is not a minority forum opinion. It is easy enough, for example, to simply say that "I think many of us have underrated JFP's skills as a woman producer in an overly misogynistic industry". It's a lot easier than spending paragraph after paragraph amusedly shaking one's head while talking down to the clueless proles of SON about their blinkered, reductive opinions. And yes, I am saying that many of us have spoken up crediting Phelps for the skills she obviously has as a technical whiz and line producer. There's nothing out of turn about acknowledging that many posters know where she excelled. Or talking about where she clearly (for many of us) didn't. You don't have to agree, but you could try listening to someone other than yourself.
    • It’s a recurring tension in Daytime: the willingness to take risks can fuel a show's longevity, but the actresses themselves often bear the long-term consequences of audience backlash.
    • I pray Eva never lets Dana back into her life, because she deserves better. Dana isn't a mother, nor is she a parent.
    • Daphnee's performance very much reminded me of Anna Holbrook's on Another World when Sharlene was dealing with John and Felicia's affair. Angry but well controlled and believable. A good start for an Emmy reel. If there is one thing an evil Black mother is going to do, it is lock you out the house. Eva shouldn't have even bothered to go home.  Leslie calling Martin "Mr. President" was interesting. How much exactly does she know about the family and has someone higher up sent her to cause trouble? Anita's speech to Leslie was dignified like Geraldine Whitney (EON) or Kim Hughes (ATWT) would have gone off on somebody.
    • Thanks for posting this, fascinating read. It's clear how ambivalent Wyndham is about Justine. IMO, it reads like she agrees that the end of the storyline was bad, but reading between the lines I think she thought she was doing good work for the meat of it....which was not the case. As bad as the writing for most of that story was, it was truly made worse by her embarrassing performance. After the story concluded she kept falling back into Justine ticks, when she wasn't phoning he scenes in. Not to play Freud, but was it to tr*ll her critics?
    • I better hear "The Emmy goes to Ambyr Michelle" come Emmy time lol
