The 4-3 decision by the Colorado supreme court ...

“A majority of the court holds that Trump is disqualified from holding the office of president under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment,” the court, whose justices were all appointed by Democratic governors, wrote in its ruling.

The ruling applies only to the state’s 5 March Republican primary, but its conclusion would likely also affect Trump’s status for the 5 November general election. Nonpartisan US election forecasters view Colorado as safely Democratic, meaning that Joe Biden will likely carry the state regardless of Trump’s fate.

These people really are bat [!@#$%^&*] crazy. I'm glad Kate Cox got the care she needs, but Texas showed us how extreme they are. What a bunch of religious fruitcakes.  Now we have the woman in Ohio charged for having a miscarriage. I guess the cruelty is still the point.

Is immigration a topic that can be addressed rationally in Europe or is it polarized like it is here in the US? Here it seems to be a zero sum argument, which is one of these reasons we seem unable to make the immigration system work better.

People are rushing to sift through the tea leaves as to what SCOTUS will do about this. My suspicion: SCOTUS will do nothing and decline to take on the case. This allows the part of the conservative branch of the Court that deludes themselves into thinking they're 'principled' and turns their nose up at 45 to potentially rid themselves of Trump without lifting a finger.

I can't really speak for the rest of Europe, but here in Sweden we're definitely on our way to becoming as polarized as the US. And frankly it scares me. We've had high political figures make statements that wouldn't have seemed out of place in Nazi-Germany.

One of the dissenting justices in the Colorado disqualification case claims that his dissent has not so much to do with the criteria and content of the actual ruling but the fact that apparently, it sends a precedent for a chaotic, ad-hoc decision on a state by state basis. Um, isn’t that how U.S. gun laws and abortion laws are adjudicated?
In any case, we know there will be some sort of appeal by the defendant. 2024 presidential election is looking like a mess so far.

The Affordable Care Act appears to be following the same arc as many "entitlements" that our country once balked at but now cannot fathom doing without.  If I were a Democrat running for office, I would hammer home that fact along with reproductive rights and the inextricable links between them and the ACA.

    • Daphnee's performance very much reminded me of Anna Holbrook's on Another World when Sharlene was dealing with John and Felicia's affair. Angry but well controlled and believable. A good start for an Emmy reel. If there is one thing an evil Black mother is going to do, it is lock you out the house. Eva shouldn't have even bothered to go home.  Leslie calling Martin "Mr. President" was interesting. How much exactly does she know about the family and has someone higher up sent her to cause trouble? Anita's speech to Leslie was dignified like Geraldine Whitney (EON) or Kim Hughes (ATWT) would have gone off on somebody.
    • Thanks for posting this, fascinating read. It's clear how ambivalent Wyndham is about Justine. IMO, it reads like she agrees that the end of the storyline was bad, but reading between the lines I think she thought she was doing good work for the meat of it....which was not the case. As bad as the writing for most of that story was, it was truly made worse by her embarrassing performance. After the story concluded she kept falling back into Justine ticks, when she wasn't phoning he scenes in. Not to play Freud, but was it to tr*ll her critics?
    • I better hear "The Emmy goes to Ambyr Michelle" come Emmy time lol

    • I love this more than any theory I've seen yet
    • I wonder what Dana and Hayley's first scene will be like. Dana has fear/contempt for Bill, but I can imagine Hayley being curious to meet her.
    • Daphne was just FANTASTIC today. I know people wanted histronics and it may still come but she was pitch perfect today. As much as I like Maurice she's gonna need someone just as strong now and it's just not him
    • Today's episode was one of my favorites so far! TT's Anita standing up to Dana was perfect. I was surprised with how restrained Dani was, in some scenes, I forgot she was there. The ending "Amazing Grace" montage was brilliant. I like how Vernon's reason complements Anita's emotion. DD was terrific portraying her mixed sense of betrayal and humiliation. I liked her comment about how she condescended to Dani after her breakup with Bill, unaware that she was also married to a cheater. I am going to miss MJ as Ted and I don't agree with the criticisms of his acting. His conduct on social media is a different story. I agree that BC's Martin has come into his own. He and MM have also discovered some chemistry which allows them portray a believable couple. Eva is the most empathetic character for me. Seeing get locked out of the apartment was heartbreaking. I also liked that the writing for Kat has been much more nuanced than one might have expected just weeks ago. I liked the expression on Kat's face at the end when she was embracing Nicole. Kat has probably never seen her calm, poised mother so upset. CM's face portrayed a sense of discomfort now that the carer/child roles have been somewhat reversed. I believe now more than ever that Kat is Ted and Dana's child. Eva is Ted and Nicole's child. Dana switched them as insurance - if Bill came after her to take or harm Eva, Dana would reveal that Eva was actually a Dupree, giving her some protection. She would also be secure in the fact that her birth daughter Kat was ensconced in the privilege and security of the Dupree family. The way Dana raised Eva - "weaponizing" her instead of nurturing her as a loving mother - also aligns with this theory.
